00:17If you download that app, you'll get all the breaking news at your fingertips.
00:22Great to have you with us. Lots to talk about. Lots been happening.
00:25What's on the agenda? Stephen Aismith sacked 44 days after signing a new extension to his deal at Hartlepool Lothian.
00:33It's Celtic against Aberdeen. Rangers will take on Motherwell in the semi-finals of the Premier Sports Cup.
00:39We'll discuss that and the games that got them there as well.
00:42And we'll ask, is there a changing of the guard in the English Premier League?
00:46Arsenal a whisker away from defeating Manchester City in their own backyard.
00:52So, that's on the agenda. Ruffie, give us your thoughts. 44 days after a new deal, a year and a half in charge.
00:58Now, after eight consecutive losses, the worst in the club's history, he's been sacked.
01:04Stephen Aismith is out and they're looking for a new manager.
01:07Yeah, obviously it's a results driven business now. It doesn't matter what club you're at, you have to be winning.
01:13I think unfortunate for Stephen, the success that he had last year, being third and playing some tremendous football.
01:20We obviously got them to a semi-final into Europe. It just shows you how short-lived a manager's job could be.
01:27I'm hoping it's not because of the fan protesting, because I've seen that happening so many times.
01:33I thought the board might have been a wee bit stronger. You've just touched on it there.
01:38How can he be so good 44 days ago and get a three-year deal?
01:42They must have thought he was an absolutely magnificent guy.
01:45Here's a three-year deal and then 44 days have changed their mind.
01:49Sometimes I think clubs jump too early. I think he's only about six points for the top six.
01:55I think they're too big a club for them not to recover. I think it was just a bit too short.
02:01Well, he certainly didn't see it coming after the 2-1 defeat to St Mirren.
02:05The way we've worked and the way I've worked for the last year, I've not seen any change in anybody.
02:11As I said at the start, I'm realistic, I understand the game.
02:15I'm confident that if I get to a point where I really believe that the players aren't actually listening to me anymore
02:22or are interested, I'll walk away from it. I don't think I'm at that point.
02:27And pretty Paulie has just said on our feed, Tam called it on Friday.
02:33You never want to see anybody losing their job, Peter.
02:36I thought if St Mirren won the game, I think he would be in real trouble with his job.
02:41I think they're running, they've been on this season, it's been shocking.
02:44As you said, one of the worst in the club's history, I think, with the signings they made in the summer.
02:49There was a lot of noises from players thinking they could go and challenge the old firm.
02:54That's not materialised as of yet. They could still recover it, as Ruffey says.
02:58But yeah, 44 days after signing a three-year deal, that's football, you've got to get results.
03:05I know, obviously, I've been through it at Hibs and the amount of managers they've been through.
03:09If you go on a run of eight consecutive defeats, it's difficult to survive at a club the size of Hibs.
03:14Yeah, and not only that, but if you look at it, five games into the Premiership season, we've already lost two managers, Ruffey.
03:22Yeah, I mean, I just said there, it just shows you as a manager, you try and get as big a contract as you can.
03:28Get a four or five year, and if it doesn't work, then at least you get some kind of payoff.
03:32Not that you want that to happen, but...
03:34I'm not too sure they give them the full five years. I think I was speaking to an agent this morning,
03:39who basically said to me, quite a lot of the clubs now are saying,
03:42yeah, we're giving you the four-year deal, but if you do not meet the demands of the contract, we'll give you six months' money.
03:50Yeah, it depends what you put in the contract.
03:52If you've got a good agent, you're going to make sure that's not in the contract.
03:55You're going to make sure, look, you've given me this three-year contract because you think I'm a good manager.
04:00Because of what I've done for the club and everything.
04:02So, there shouldn't be any stipulations if, what, eight games later on, you've changed your mind.
04:07I think you've got to show a wee bit of loyalty.
04:09I think it was Stuart Kettlewell, where did he go through, 14 games last year with Motherwell?
04:14I think he was on six or seven.
04:17I mean, there have been a lot of managers being like that, but you could tell by Stevie's demeanour there,
04:24I think he knew there was things going on behind the scenes.
04:29I definitely think that the fans protesting after it has got a big, big say in it.
04:33We've saw it tonnes of times, that boards aren't strong enough to stand up and say,
04:37look, we're going to make the decision, not yous.
04:39But that's the way the game's going now.
04:41The fans pay their money, particularly at Hearts, pay a lot of money.
04:45So, they want to have a say.
04:47I don't know if there's any supporters on the Hearts board that would have anything to do with it.
04:51But sometimes, as a board, you've got to stick together.
04:55Well, Brian says, I hate saying I told you so when a manager loses the job.
05:00However, I was posting for weeks that Naismith would be sacked and the Hibs manager is next, says Brian.
05:07Brian goes through these all sorts of erratic predictions and statements on this feed here.
05:15One minute he likes you, the next minute he's battering you.
05:17But Brian, if he did say that, I mean, I'm sure you don't take any great delight
05:23in suggesting that he was ready for the chop.
05:25I certainly don't.
05:26I like Stevie Naismith as a person.
05:28He worked here, he was a good lad, and he'll be absolutely gutted it hasn't worked out for him.
05:35So, the king is dead, long live the king.
05:39They now need to look for someone else.
05:42And if it was me, now, I have to say to you, let me tell you who it's not going to be.
05:50I don't think, you know what it's like with us, sometimes we suggest our pals.
05:54So I don't think Neil Lennon is going to get it.
05:58And I don't think your pal Scott Brown is going to get it.
06:00Or your pal Ian Murray.
06:02So we can rule those three out right away.
06:06But I do think if they are not going to go down the road that's about to be, I'm going to suggest to you, Ruffy.
06:13If it was me, it would be Stephen Robinson or someone who's had a previous harsh connection
06:18who might not be as glamorous for them.
06:20But John McGlynn's certainly done himself no harm with the way his team goes about their business.
06:25No, John's been in the game long enough obviously with the Wraith Rovers.
06:28Anywhere he's went, he's been very, very successful.
06:31I don't know if John, no disrespect to him, I don't know if he's high profile enough for a job at Hearts.
06:39I'm surprised you never said Derek McInnes there.
06:41Because that would be a step up for him to go to, I would think, Hearts.
06:46I don't know if this new guy that's investing the 10 million is going to have something to say with this.
06:51Well, I'm glad you said that.
06:53If he's going to take that 10 million, he's going to have some kind of input in how this is going to go.
06:59Well, Tony Bloom has a data company, Jamestown Analytics, which basically is,
07:06the type of stats that they look at are young managers or managers who are promising right across Europe.
07:13And this is why Brighton have been such a success since Graeme Potter and then onwards to Deserby.
07:21This is how they manage to keep that flow of good football and continuity.
07:27Yeah, I think if Tony Bloom's got anything to do with it, I think they can probably write off a lot of guys that are on the list at the minute.
07:33I think they'll go down the road.
07:35They just appointed the guy at Brighton in the summer, I think he's 31 years old.
07:39And they got him from abroad.
07:42Jamestown Analytics and obviously his company will be looking, if they have got a say in it, they'll be looking to scout on Europe.
07:48Who's doing well? What's his numbers like? Win percentage? Stuff like that.
07:53What kind of football does he play?
07:55So if he's got a say in it, Peter, I think it's wide open to see who's going to get the job.
08:00I know Alec Neal seems to be the bookie's favourite at the minute.
08:02There's another one that's been mentioned, but I think if Tony Bloom has got anything to do with it,
08:07I think it's going to be a vast search.
08:10Yeah, absolutely.
08:11Okay, now give us your thoughts on it.
08:13Somebody's already suggested David Weir at Brighton, ex-Jambo.
08:16It'll be interesting to see exactly who they come up with to take over at Harts and what type of money they will have.
08:24I mean, let's not kid ourselves, Robbie.
08:26We all thought that they'd actually got a march on everybody in the summer when they made those signings early.
08:31And I have to say that the signings they've made haven't really added to the squad at this precise moment in time.
08:38Unfortunately, maybe they step up into a bigger side.
08:42You know, they just haven't been able to adapt to how good they were at the sides they were at.
08:48But we've seen that on numerous occasions with players that go to Rangers and Celtic.
08:53So it's not happened for them.
08:55But I still think, even in looking at the St Martin game, I only saw the highlights there.
08:59That game could have went either way.
09:01There was chances, there was blocks, there was efforts at goal.
09:05I don't think, as Stevie said there, the players are down too.
09:09I think they were all working hard for them and all trying to win the game.
09:13It'll be the funniest thing.
09:15I mean, Harts will probably go out and win the next three games, no matter who's in charge.
09:18That's just the way the football is, isn't it?
09:20Well, the one thing that I cannot tolerate, Tam, and I hope we don't see this in the next couple of days,
09:25from any of the Harts players bumping their gums saying,
09:28we let the manager down.
09:30I'm not having it, Tam.
09:32Yeah, that's always the quotes that come out from the dressing room, Peter.
09:36You'll have guys in the dressing room devastated he's left.
09:38You'll have guys that haven't been playing and maybe sitting in the stand, happy he's left.
09:42That's football.
09:43People that are playing and Stephen signed will be disappointed that he's left.
09:47But that disappointment soon evaporates.
09:50You get back onto the training pitch and you go again.
09:53You're there to do a job for the club.
09:55There will be players in that dressing room who will feel they've let the manager down.
10:00But that's football.
10:02You can't sack 24 players, 26 players.
10:05The manager always carries a can, unfortunately.
10:07And JG has said something very prophetic.
10:11Never know what could happen.
10:12He says, it wasn't that long ago Naismith was on this very show, Peter.
10:16He's available now.
10:17I don't know about you, Ruffey.
10:18I mean, you obviously have got the last call on this.
10:20We've brought, effectively, Batman and Robin in on a Wednesday with Scott Allen and Ryan McGowan.
10:27Could you have Lenny back and Nasey just sitting here as the other two alongside you two on a Monday and a Friday?
10:35I think we loved them when they were here.
10:37Very good guys.
10:39A lot more punchier than some people who have been on the show on a regular basis.
10:43And then there's Barry.
10:45Barry's out of a job now.
10:47Ferguson.
10:48Yeah?
10:49That took a long response there.
10:54Can you ever...
10:56Yeah.
10:57Could we actually suffer Neil, Barry and Nasey on this show?
11:01Oh, no.
11:02That would be...
11:03With the tackles flying in there.
11:05Absolutely.
11:06Okay.
11:07See if you can get your finger out and get us more sponsorship, Ruffey.
11:10And we'll see what we can do for that.
11:11Is that okay?
11:12Yep.
11:13What a line-up.
11:14That would be incredible.
11:15Talking of Rangers, the interim chairman, John Gilligan, was speaking today
11:22at a press conference at Ibrox.
11:24And we sent our reporter, Kerry Pollock, out there.
11:27Here at Ibrox today, club interim chairman, John Gilligan,
11:30has addressed the media on his new role.
11:32However, in recent weeks, former chairman, Dave King,
11:34has expressed his interest in a return to the club, amongst other things.
11:38However, Gilligan believes King should keep his opinions less public.
11:42So in answer to your question, do I wish he would stop?
11:45Yes.
11:46Yes.
11:47I just say, Dave, you know, please take it below the radar.
11:52Behave like a proper shareholder.
11:54Don't do what you're doing.
11:56But it's just a shame, you know, because he's a great character
12:00and he's a massive influence on the club at the time.
12:03And I'll always respect that.
12:05The 72-year-old also admitted the club are well into their recruitment process
12:08for the new candidate and highlighted a strict criteria of what is required.
12:13You need to have a strong business acumen, knowledge, experience.
12:17You need to have run businesses where there's pressure
12:19and they need to deliver.
12:21It can't really be a comfortable business because the stress
12:23and the pressure of being the CEO of a football club is pretty big.
12:27You need to have a great communication.
12:29You need to be a good communicator and good at, you know, getting to people.
12:34And you need to have a tremendous work ethic
12:36because it goes without saying that it's unbelievably difficult.
12:40It really is.
12:41And last, you need to be a good person.
12:43Somebody good, somebody decent people.
12:45I like decent people.
12:47Yeah, and I have to say, I'll put my hand on my heart here
12:51and say John is one of those decent people.
12:54I have a lot of time for him.
12:55I really like John.
12:56He's got Rangers at heart.
12:58And, you know, finding that chief executive,
13:02finding that chairman without a massive power struggle,
13:05I think it's going to be difficult.
13:07Yeah, I think people don't realise, as John said there,
13:10you know, what it is to be the chairman of a Rangers football club.
13:14It's all consuming.
13:15We saw that with the chap Bennett, who isn't particularly well just now.
13:19So it's a 24-hour job, you know, and as John said there,
13:23you've got to have some kind of business acumen.
13:25You've got to bring investors into the club.
13:27You've got to have a finger on the pulse who would want to invest in the club
13:31and have that sort of an aura of, yeah, if you're in it, I'm in it.
13:34So, no, it'll be interesting to see who they go for.
13:39I still maintain, you know, chief executive is one job
13:43which doesn't affect the overall...
13:45It'll affect how much money they can try and bring in
13:48and deals and things like that.
13:50That's his job, among other things, Tam.
13:54But as far as being a chairman, whoever that may be,
13:57or the direction of the club,
13:59I still maintain that if they are looking to,
14:02the suggestion is a Far East investor,
14:05I still maintain Rangers needs to be taken over
14:08by one group or one person who is the leader,
14:12who calls the shots to take away this situation
14:17where you have four or five people looking to take the reins
14:20and I think it holds Rangers back.
14:22Yeah, as John spoke about there, you know, about Dave King,
14:26Dave's been pretty vocal about probably wanting to come back
14:29and get involved with Rangers again.
14:31I don't think that John and the board at Rangers
14:34are particularly wanting that.
14:36I think that was pretty clear there from his interview.
14:39I think they're wanting it to be done in the quiet, you know,
14:42but Dave's a big character and he's obviously made it public
14:45that he wants back involved at Rangers.
14:47So, no, you're right.
14:48It remains to be seen who's going to come in and invest.
14:51There's rumours of Far East and different things
14:53and that's going to be the key.
14:55Who's going to invest the money?
14:57Is the money going to be used properly, Peter?
15:00Because, listen, we know that Celtic are financially miles ahead
15:03of Rangers at the minute, but, you know,
15:05if somebody comes in with deep pockets to Rangers
15:07then that can be cut in half or they can get a lot closer
15:10to Celtic off the park.
15:12So, as you say, it looks as if it's going to be
15:15a power struggle at the minute, but I think with John,
15:18and we all know John's a great guy with Rangers at heart,
15:20I think that they're in safe hands at the minute with John Gilligan.
15:23Yeah, and the other aspect of it, which I'm sure John was well aware
15:28of the questions were going to come thick and fast,
15:30is, you know, there's a real narrative going about at the moment,
15:34Roffy, that Philip Clamont is one game away from getting the sack
15:38and John Gilligan's coming out today and backing the manager.
15:43I don't get that.
15:44I don't get, you know, that the swell of the people
15:47that you're talking about are saying he's one bad game away
15:50but getting beaten by Malmo or something like that.
15:52You know, I think he's went about his job properly.
15:56I think obviously Celtic are doing particularly well,
15:58which obviously hurts a lot of Rangers supporters,
16:01but I think himself, even in the Dundee game,
16:05what we'll be talking about, I think they look pretty good,
16:08some of the new guys coming in.
16:09So maybe you have to sit in there and believe that
16:12some of the players take a wee bit of time to settle
16:14and hang on in there.
16:16But I don't get where he's done particularly bad.
16:19Yeah, I don't know whether...
16:21I mean, I think there's two elements of it
16:24that I think he's put himself right behind the eight ball here, Tam.
16:28And the first one is after the defeat to Celtic,
16:32he quite simply says, well, we'll see you in January.
16:35You know, that threw the gauntlet down.
16:37So first and foremost, to see them in January,
16:40he has to effectively win the games all the way through
16:44in the league to make sure they're on their coattails.
16:46For the game in January to mean anything
16:49and to suggest that Rangers at home are going to be
16:52a different animal and be able to take Celtic.
16:54So that's the first thing on that.
16:57And the second thing is having lost ground to them.
17:00You're looking at every game up until then
17:03where he really has to get a settled side,
17:06which is perfectly feasible, and then just go on that run.
17:10And the last part of this, which I think, you know,
17:14quite a lot of people will be looking at is
17:16you cannot have a chairman in John Bennett
17:20suddenly saying we are changing from this short-termism
17:24and looking for a long-term strategy,
17:27which the whole club is operating on at the moment.
17:29You then can't have the manager coming out
17:31and saying we're buying into that.
17:33And then suddenly they sack him.
17:35I don't understand that at all, Peter.
17:38I think that Philip Clement, bar the Celtic games,
17:41has done pretty well at Rangers.
17:43I think he inherited an average squad.
17:46I think he's trying to change that around, Peter.
17:48I've seen a lot of players going out.
17:49He's cut the wage bill,
17:51which was probably a priority in the summer,
17:53cutting the wage bill down.
17:54And he's got players in, and they've got to stick with him.
17:57But he's always going to be judged against Celtic.
18:00That's just Rangers.
18:01Rangers and Celtic are always going to be judged against each other, Peter.
18:04And I know people are saying, well,
18:05Rangers need to concentrate on beating the rest.
18:07But they're always going to be compared to Celtic.
18:10And until Philip can prove that they can beat Celtic in a big game,
18:15then unless somebody does them a turn,
18:17like a Camarnet last season,
18:18when Celtic beat Celtic in a cup early in the season,
18:21unless somebody does them a turn,
18:23until they can beat Celtic in a big game,
18:25they're not going to win anything.
18:26Yeah, and of course, you know,
18:28we're talking about January the 2nd,
18:30but there is a small matter of the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals,
18:36which could put Celtic and Rangers together before we get to January.
18:40I think from the neutral point of view,
18:44I'm sure Aberdeen and Motherwell would rather get drawn together,
18:47you know, and give them a wee chance to,
18:49one of them, get to a final,
18:51which doesn't happen very often.
18:53But certainly, if you were to sit here and say,
18:57who is the final going to be between?
18:59I know Aberdeen are doing particularly well,
19:01but you would think it would be a Rangers-Celtic final,
19:03which I think everybody, well, not everybody,
19:06a large amount of people like to see.
19:08It's a bit of a spectacle.
19:09Steady now. Steady now, Roffy.
19:11Because your comments there get me pelters
19:14when I head to Dundee, when I head to Aberdeen.
19:17It'll go mental.
19:18The way the game is, you know,
19:20they are the two of the best sides.
19:22I know Aberdeen have done...
19:23The TV companies will be wanting it.
19:25Yeah, of course they will.
19:26Sponsors will want it.
19:27The stadium will be full, the atmosphere and everything.
19:30It will be a 50-50 split in fans,
19:33and we all know what that means.
19:35But I'm sure Aberdeen and Motherwell
19:37will have something to say about it,
19:39and I'm sure they'll both be very, very good games.
19:42Yeah, listen, I think obviously Celtic and Rangers
19:44will both be the bookies' favourites
19:46to win their semi-finals.
19:48I think the final is just before Christmas.
19:50Is it just the 21st or 20th of December?
19:52Yeah.
19:53And it's an opportunity to get that first bit of silverware
19:56on the cabinet.
19:57Rangers managed to do it last season,
19:59and they either thought they got a little boost from that,
20:01did get an initial kick from that,
20:02and then obviously finished the season poorly
20:04and kind of lost the lead to Celtic.
20:06But yeah, I think that Celtic and Rangers
20:08will both be favourites.
20:09But it'll be interesting to see Aberdeen.
20:11You know, we're going to speak about it as well.
20:13They've got a tough October now,
20:15a tough November coming up with the semi-final against Celtic,
20:17and we're going to see what they're made of.
20:19They've got a new song.
20:21You know how they've got the old song,
20:24which is,
20:25F.U. Celtic, we're going to win the league.
20:27I think they've really cranked it up now
20:29because our reporter, Kobe, just sent me a text
20:32and said they've got a new song now,
20:34which is obviously,
20:35when you get a collection of Aberdeen fans,
20:37Robbie, who get together,
20:39maybe they've had a big meeting
20:40and there's been maybe 30 from the choir there,
20:43and they've sat down and they've basically said,
20:45you know, basically, listen,
20:47we've had this song,
20:48and it's F.U. Celtic, we're going to win the league.
20:51We've got to try and add some more different songs.
20:54And I think one of the administrators
20:56come up with,
20:57why don't we go with a new song,
20:58which is,
20:59F.U. Celtic, we're going to win the cup.
21:03So they were belting that out at the weekend as well,
21:06which is fantastic.
21:07You need variety, don't you?
21:09An Aberdeen supporter, you're on a high.
21:11You know, you're enjoying every minute of it,
21:13after last year,
21:14which was an absolute shambles.
21:16So you can see it in the stadium.
21:17Stadium's full.
21:19Keep saying the flags are up,
21:20and I'm sure they'll be looking forward to it.
21:22Yeah, absolutely.
21:23We're going to talk about Aberdeen.
21:24We'll hear from Jimmy Tolleen
21:26on, of course, the performance 4-0 against Spartans.
21:30Friday night, Friday night football.
21:31I'm going to say, well done, Motherwell.
21:33They had a video campaign behind it.
21:35They had people out with leaflets,
21:36and the place was absolutely buzzing
21:38for a 2-1 win over Dundee United.
21:41Yeah, brilliant.
21:42Great crowd there, Peter.
21:43You know, one of the best crowds I've had in recent years.
21:45And it just shows you,
21:46if you put the graft in,
21:47put the work in,
21:48they were out leafleting.
21:49They were in schools,
21:50giving tickets away,
21:51and stuff like that.
21:52And they get a fantastic crowd,
21:53and it rolled them on at the end.
21:54You know,
21:55a ridiculous tackle from the Dundee United defender
21:57in the last minute of the game.
21:58I mean, I don't know what he's doing there.
22:00And it just shows you the confidence
22:01they've got in Lennon Miller,
22:0218-year-old,
22:03coming up, last kick of the ball,
22:04get you to Hamden.
22:05And they give him the ball
22:06to take the penalty kick,
22:07and he slotted it away superbly well.
22:08So,
22:09no, a brilliant result for Motherwell.
22:11And they get back to Hamden.
22:13As Ruffey said,
22:14they wanted to avoid maybe Celtic and Rangers,
22:18but I think with Rangers,
22:19they've got a better chance at the minute
22:21of beating Rangers
22:22than they have beating Celtic.
22:23Yeah, and of course,
22:24for a young man like Lennon Miller,
22:25to step up there with all that calmness
22:28and everybody hoping
22:29that he could convert the penalty
22:31and send Motherwell into the semi-finals,
22:33Stuart Kettlewell was in no doubt
22:36that he was good enough
22:37to step up there from 12 yards
22:39and dispatch the ball into the net.
22:41I just think it's pretty special
22:42when you're looking at an 18-year-old
22:43that shows that level of composure
22:45and shows that belief in himself,
22:48that trust in himself,
22:49that he can convert a penalty kick the way he did.
22:53I go back to the bigger picture
22:55and speak about his performance in general,
22:56which I think leads to that,
22:57but nothing really surprised me with him,
23:00to be honest.
23:01I've got so much trust
23:02that he picks the ball up
23:03and he spots it,
23:04he puts it in the back of the net.
23:05I watched him do it yesterday
23:06with five or six penalties
23:07and he scores them in the top corner.
23:09Maybe that's the frustration he had
23:10when he put it right in the top corner.
23:13Yeah, cool boy.
23:15His dad was in here.
23:16We had a wee one-to-one with his dad as well.
23:18He's got...
23:20He's level-headed.
23:21Yeah, well, you've got to hope he's level-headed
23:23and you've got to hope
23:24that he's going to listen to the right people
23:26and, obviously, his dad being a footballer,
23:28I'm sure that he'll lay heavily
23:30on what's going to happen.
23:31Obviously, everybody's talking about him.
23:33He'll be getting watched all over the place
23:35by English clubs
23:37and everybody will say to him,
23:38look, you've spent another season here
23:40and you'll be better geared up for it.
23:43But we'll know what happens
23:45when a bid comes in from somewhere.
23:47Mother will have to look at it
23:49and so will he.
23:50Yeah, OK.
23:51Can you not just enjoy the moment
23:52of him scoring the penalty kick?
23:53Oh, absolutely, yeah.
23:54I mean, he's great.
23:55I think he'll be away in January.
23:56Yeah, he's moving him away.
23:57I think he'll be away in January.
23:58I'm not moving him anywhere.
23:59He's in the Scotland team now.
24:00He's in the young side
24:02so that'll add money on as well.
24:05He just needs to sit in
24:06until the summer of it.
24:07It's OK saying that, you know,
24:08but when you're a young lad
24:10and somebody big comes in for you,
24:12you know, it's a hard decision to make.
24:15If you believe in your own ability
24:16and you think you're good enough,
24:17then sometimes you kind of say no.
24:19Here's a wee insight
24:20and this is something
24:21that Tam won't be aware of,
24:22is give him the insight
24:24into the pain psychologically.
24:26Sometimes it can last 30, 40, 50 years.
24:29Tell Tam the pain
24:31when you don't get that big move
24:32to Man City when they were in for you
24:34and the manager denies you that move.
24:36It's painful.
24:37It's painful.
24:38It's not bad.
24:39It's even worse when you come home
24:40and your wife's packed all the bags to go.
24:42It's not even been spoken about.
24:44She's just read the papers.
24:48No, you've just got to go over it.
24:50Yeah.
24:51I think you look at Jake Hastie
24:53as a great example.
24:54I don't think he was ready
24:55for his move to Rangers, Peter.
24:56He's kind of bounced about,
24:57kind of lower level.
24:58I think he's at Hamilton Hockey's now.
25:00I think he left too early.
25:01So I think with Lennon Miller,
25:03I think ideally you'd want him
25:05to get 80, 100 games under his belt
25:07like the Hamilton boys,
25:08MacArthur and McCarthy
25:09were playing a couple of seasons
25:11and then he went down
25:12and right into the championship,
25:13Premier League in England.
25:14I don't think he's quite ready for that yet
25:15but as Ruffey says,
25:16if somebody comes in
25:17with a couple of million pounds,
25:18that's a lot of money for another one.
25:20Was there ever a time, Tam,
25:21and obviously we always joke
25:22about your career,
25:23but when you were buying
25:24some goals in,
25:25was there a time
25:26when you heard
25:27sniffs of a big move?
25:28No, I was linked
25:29to a lot of clubs as well, Peter.
25:30When I was at Hubs,
25:31Man City was actually one of them
25:32but Rangers was the main one
25:33with Alec McLeish.
25:35Alec went to Rangers
25:36and Alec gave me
25:3810 years worth of contracts at Hubs.
25:41So he rated me as a player
25:42when he went
25:43and there was a lot of rumours
25:44about me going to Rangers but
25:46yeah, you can't help
25:47but get excited by it
25:48and I'm sure he will be
25:49but as Ruffey says,
25:51he's got Lee Muller there
25:52who's a very experienced footballer
25:54and knows,
25:55he'll know any inside out,
25:57he'll know,
25:58listen, you're not ready yet.
25:59You know, that's not
26:00maybe the right club for you.
26:01Just keep playing away at Muller
26:02when the right club comes in
26:03that you can go and play.
26:04He's got to go and play, Peter.
26:05There's no point in him,
26:06say for example,
26:07he goes to Celtic
26:08and in the summer
26:09he's not going to play for Celtic.
26:10I think if he goes to a club
26:11that he's going to play every week,
26:13then I think that
26:14his development would then
26:16increase his ability.
26:18I'd love to have been
26:19a fly on the wall Ruffey.
26:20You as well,
26:21five years,
26:22if Alec phoned you and said
26:23look,
26:24Ibrox in the morning,
26:25five year deal,
26:26you're there,
26:27you've got the jersey,
26:28you've got the scarf
26:29and all that,
26:30you'd have been...
26:31I'd have been there, Peter, aye.
26:32I'd have been there, aye.
26:33Yeah, I'd have been there.
26:34I don't think my dad
26:35would have been too happy
26:36I'd have been there.
26:40When Graeme was at Rangers
26:42and I was at Hibs
26:43and we played Rangers at Ibrox
26:45and I think we drew one each
26:46or something like that
26:47and I had quite a good game
26:48because it was one of Graeme's
26:49and I met Graeme
26:50on the stairs coming up
26:51and he went,
26:52oh great game,
26:53you played really well
26:54I said I'd like you to come here.
26:55He said,
26:56why don't you tell the boy Holmes
26:57to put you on a contract?
26:58I stood looking up
26:59and jumped out the door.
27:02Graeme's just said
27:03you've to over me.
27:05That's how it happened obviously.
27:06Yeah,
27:07you would have joined Ruffey
27:08wouldn't you?
27:09Yeah,
27:10most definitely.
27:11I could have been there
27:12when John Gregg was there.
27:13Yeah,
27:14do you want to say?
27:15Before I went to Hibs,
27:16Graeme came to me
27:17on Friday morning
27:18and he said,
27:19I see you're going to sign for Hibs
27:20and I said yeah
27:21and he said,
27:22well don't do anything
27:23until over the weekend
27:24because I'll have a chat
27:25with my board
27:26and when you come here
27:27would you be happy with that?
27:28I said of course I would
27:29and then Monday
27:30he got sacked.
27:33Lucky way to end on.
27:34Yeah,
27:35absolutely.
27:37These sliding door knocks
27:40that happened.
27:41We're going to talk
27:42Aberdeen Spartans,
27:43we're going to talk
27:44Rangers Dundee
27:45and we're going to talk
27:46Celtic Falkirk.
27:47What a game that was
27:48after we get the headlines
27:49with Cara.
27:50Hello,
27:51I'm Cara
27:52and these are your
27:53daily news headlines
27:54on Monday 23rd September
27:55sponsored by Arnold Clarke.
27:56Rangers interim chairman
27:57John Gilligan
27:58has said that he
27:59fully backs
28:00Philippe Clement
28:01despite reports
28:02that he's one loss
28:03away from the sack.
28:04Absolutely,
28:05yeah,
28:06definitely.
28:07The famous
28:08last words of a chairman.
28:11No,
28:12absolutely,
28:13yes.
28:14Definitely yes,
28:15he inspired a bit of confidence.
28:16He's a very
28:17intelligent man
28:18that knows
28:19exactly what he's
28:20trying to do
28:21and what he's trying
28:22to do for the club,
28:23so yeah.
28:24The search is on
28:25for the new Hearts manager
28:26after Stephen Naismith
28:27was sacked.
28:28This was following
28:29Hearts' eighth
28:30consecutive loss.
28:31Craig Gordon
28:32said that the Hearts fans
28:33showed their displeasure
28:34at the performance.
28:35I just
28:36sort of
28:37taken in,
28:38just stood and watched.
28:39You can see
28:40the frustrations.
28:42They don't want us
28:43to go over there
28:44and clap them.
28:45They want us
28:46to win football matches.
28:47Celtic manager
28:48Brendan Rodgers
28:49has praised Falkirk's
28:50style of play
28:51and efforts
28:52after his side's
28:535-2 win at Celtic
28:54Park on Sunday.
28:55Celtic are through
28:56to the semi-finals
28:57and will play Aberdeen
28:58whereas Rangers
28:59will face Motherwell.
29:00Those were your

29:11Yeah,
29:12I thought it was
29:13a tremendous start
29:14for Falkirk.
29:15They said,
29:16I think we spoke
29:17about it on Friday,
29:18you know,
29:19what their tactics
29:20would be.
29:21Would they sit in
29:22and try and
29:23limitations
29:24or would they go
29:25and have a go?
29:26I'm glad
29:27they had a go.
29:28You know,
29:29you could see
29:30right from the start,
29:31right from the centre,
29:32they wanted to get forward.
29:33Tremendous goal.
29:34Yeah,
29:35I thought
29:36it was
29:37a tremendous start
29:38for Falkirk.
29:39They said,
29:40I think we spoke
29:41about it on Friday,
29:42you know,
29:43what their tactics
29:44would be.
29:45Would they sit in
29:46and try and limitations
29:47or would they go
29:48and have a go?
29:49I'm glad
29:50they had a go.
29:51You know,
29:52you could see
29:53right from the start,
29:54right from the centre,
29:55they wanted to get forward.
29:56Tremendous goal.
29:57Yeah,
29:58to set them off
29:59but you knew
30:00what was in reserve
30:01that you knew
30:02and I'm sure
30:03John McGlynn knew
30:04and the players knew
30:05when they started
30:06throwing on
30:07most of the first team
30:08that it was going to be
30:09an uphill battle
30:10John McGlynn feels
30:11confident enough
30:12that his young side
30:13can go there
30:14and play the way
30:15they've been playing regularly
30:16not only
30:17in the Championship
30:18but I watched them
30:19put hearts out of the cup.
30:20Yeah,
30:21I just think they're a club
30:22that's got a tonne of confidence
30:23at the minute, Peter.
30:24I think the winning games
30:25have not lost a league game
30:26in a long time.
30:27Great start to the season
30:28in the Championship.
30:29I think four or five wins
30:30out of five
30:31and it didn't change.
30:32You know,
30:33John's an
30:34attack-minded manager.
30:35A lot of people would have thought
30:36maybe go and shut up
30:37short there
30:38but he didn't.
30:39He had the usual tactics
30:40kind of 4-3-3
30:41and then get after Celtic
30:42and
30:43you know,
30:44the goal just before half-time
30:45to go 2-1 up
30:46you're thinking
30:47could be a wee upset here
30:48but as Ruffy says
30:49Celtic started to bring
30:50some of the big guns on
30:51in the second half
30:52but I think
30:53for 60-70 minutes
30:54that Falkirk performance
30:55was superb.
30:56They just ran out of steam
30:57ran out of legs
30:58at the end
30:59and Celtic obviously
31:005-2 I think
31:01flattered Celtic massively
31:02but
31:03I think if you're a Falkirk fan
31:04watching that
31:05you know,
31:06the highs of going 1-0 up
31:07then 2-1 up
31:08and thinking you've got
31:09a right opportunity
31:10I think there was
31:112-2,500 there
31:12Falkirk fans
31:13and they came out of the game
31:14with enormous credit
31:15as I said
31:16I think they ran out of steam
31:17in the last 15-20 minutes
31:18but
31:19I think they're a very
31:20very good team
31:21they've got a lot of
31:22good young players
31:23in the team
31:24a good manager
31:25and the boy Yeats
31:26was poetry in motion.
31:27OK
31:28we'll just blank that
31:29and look towards
31:30what Brendan Rodgers
31:31had to say
31:32which was quite simply
31:33that's the most changes
31:34I'll ever make
31:35eight
31:36to be honest with you
31:37in some moments
31:38we look good
31:39and in other moments
31:40there was just
31:41that little bit
31:42of hesitancy
31:43John and his staff
31:44clearly have that mindset
31:45to play attacking
31:46aggressive football
31:47and you see
31:48the rewards
31:49of that
31:50and I think that was
31:51the Celtic manager
31:52of course
31:53being very complimentary
31:54about the way
31:55that they played
31:56and I just thought
31:57they were a joy
31:58to watch, Roffy
31:59and again
32:00OK
32:01the league itself
32:02sometimes
32:03we criticise it
32:04because of the nature
32:05of
32:07you're always looking
32:08over your shoulder
32:09and thinking
32:10relegation
32:11if I go on a run
32:12a Stevie Naismith
32:13a Craig Levine run
32:14you're getting the sack
32:15but
32:16you know
32:17you're going to get
32:18I think the attitude
32:19for me
32:20is very much
32:21like John McGlynn
32:22let's see what the team
32:23can do
32:24let's play to the positives
32:25we're expected
32:26to get thumped
32:27at Celtic Park anyway
32:28so let's have a go
32:29and put the frighteners
32:30up them
32:31Yeah
32:32and I think
32:33the way it went about
32:34it was right
32:35at the end of the day
32:36it didn't matter
32:37what the score
32:38was going to be
32:39we'd hope that the players
32:40would take something
32:41out of being in that arena
32:42coming up against
32:43a big, big side
32:44hopefully you're not
32:45going to get run
32:46over the top of
32:47which they didn't
32:48so coming away
32:49for the game
32:50although it was 5-2
32:51it was a flattering 5-2
32:52so I think
32:53he'll get a lot
32:54of positives
32:55out of that game
32:56you know
32:57the players will get
32:58a lot of positives
32:59out of it
33:00and they'll take it
33:01on to the championship
33:02Yeah
33:03and again
33:04you know
33:05watching the show
33:06and the emails
33:07that come in as well
33:08David Macleod says
33:09the difference is
33:10it's a cup tie
33:11there's no points
33:12to lose
33:13and David
33:14it's a very valid
33:15point
33:16the only thing
33:17I would say
33:18is he just
33:19does not change
33:20his mindset
33:21and the way
33:22his style
33:23is with that team
33:24Mark Fairfield says
33:25if that performance
33:26doesn't get
33:27John McGlynn
33:28a move
33:29nothing will
33:30it's not as if
33:31he suddenly looked
33:32at it as if
33:33he was
33:34looking at it
33:35as if
33:36he was
33:37looking
33:38at it
33:39as if
33:40he was
33:41looking
33:42at it
33:43as if
