00:00re-join Ali McCoy, who this time is alongside Rory Hamilton.
00:04Thank you very much Emma.
00:06Good evening everybody, and Ibrox Stadium already has the feel of a special night on the cards.
00:12Big games in Glasgow are a unique experience, a different breed.
00:17Ibrox, a ground that can intimidate and send opposition players into a shell,
00:23is packed to the rafters tonight, anticipating another memorable occasion
00:29on the big stage, and tonight Rangers take the next step in their UEFA Europa League adventure
00:35against French giants Olympique Lyonnais.
00:59Well the results have turned for Rangers, four wins in a row, no goals conceded,
01:23momentum building, confidence peaking.
01:27And after that victory in Malmo a week ago, Philippe Clement looks to take a major step
01:31against one of the competition's big guns.
01:33He makes just the one change from match day one in Sweden, Jephte returns from suspension,
01:38follows three alterations from Sunday's victory over Hibernian as Mohamed Diomonde
01:43is back to full fitness after a knock.
01:45Cyril Dessos is reinstated with seven goals this season, while Nedim Bayrami scored
01:51after 56 seconds against Malmo, he reclaims his spot on the left wing.
02:02The officials this evening come from Germany, led by Sven Jablonski.
02:07Pierre Sage made eight changes between Thursday and Sunday, so with a further seven he rotates
02:22to the side more familiar with the one that started the victory a week ago over Olympiacos.
02:29Jordan Vertu does come into the middle, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Nemanja Matic both start.
02:36Alexandre Lacazette is the skipper and second top scorer in Lyon's history.
02:42And there is the former Arsenal man who will lead the line this evening,
02:47greeting fellow captain James Tavernier.
02:53I'm sure we'd love to end his 11 game European goal drought.
02:59So often the man for the big occasion for Rangers.
03:07It was a huge result for Rangers last week in Sweden, but now a big step up.
03:16Lyon have spent big to try to recapture the glory days of a couple of decades ago.
03:23But amongst off-field uncertainty, they are a club very much looking to try to reclaim their identity.
03:33It's been a bit of a barren spell for a team who were for so long associated with being one of the top-tier clubs in Europe.
03:45Now back in Europe after a two-year hiatus.
03:51Looking to make their mark. They also won on matchday one.
03:55Matchday one. That's two top-one teams both victorious a week ago
04:01as the Europa League journey takes its next turn for Rangers and Lyon.
04:09There's Ainslie Maitland-Niles who knocks that one off.
04:13Nadeem Bayrami will be a Lyon throw-in.
04:18Aliyev just touched on it there.
04:21It was a huge result over in Sweden.
04:24Maybe could have been secured earlier than it was.
04:28But to get the three points was massive and gives Rangers a great platform to build on.
04:32Absolutely. Good evening everyone.
04:35I thought it was the best performance of the season for me from Rangers by a considerable distance.
04:39And you're right. The only complaint was it wasn't more comfortable.
04:48How big a step up is this though?
04:50Yeah. I mean, clearly, size of the club, magnitude of the club.
04:54But they haven't... I mean, they've kind of had an indifferent start to the league campaign
04:59sitting 11th, Rory. But, I mean, you look at the side, it's full of real quality.
05:04You look at the players they've brought in this summer, the money they've spent.
05:07Taking all these things into account, yes, step up without a doubt.
05:13Lyon didn't win a way to lose on Sunday.
05:18They actually kicked off just as Rangers finished their victory over Hibernian.
05:23It has to be said, neither side overly impressive at the weekend.
05:27But both getting the job done, which is of course very important.
05:31There's Pierre Sage, who was appointed in November replacing Fabio Grosso.
05:36They were bottom of League 1 at that time.
05:39Here's Jephte, motoring forward with the strike. It goes all the way across goal.
05:44And it's out for a throw-in.
05:47I think it's poor. I think it's a great leave by Bayrami there.
05:50That's a smashing leave. I'm not sure it's one or the other.
05:53I'm not sure whether it's a cross, I'm not sure...
05:55Well, it's a cross, having looked at it from that angle.
05:58And it's a real opportunity there from Jephte on the left-hand side
06:02to put a little bit of quality in. It's a great run, it's a great supporting run,
06:06but the little bit of quality in the final cross was sadly missing.
06:11Was it a chance to test out the goalkeeper there?
06:14Yes, is the answer to the question. He could have a shot at goal.
06:17I actually think he took the right option, but the quality was poor.
06:26An early indication of Rangers attacking threat.
06:29It is a Lyon side who have particularly struggled defensively.
06:36What a ball that is.
06:39What a ball that is.
06:41That's loved Cherney, and now in comes Tavernier to the box.
06:45It isn't clear properly, what a save!
06:48To keep out the Rangers captain from Lucas Perry.
06:52Rangers possibly should be in front early on again.
06:57All comes through a switch of play, Rory, what a switch of play it was.
07:01From Robben proper. Tremendous ball out to Cherney on the right-hand side.
07:05They get a little bit of the break.
07:10This is some switch. Magnificent ball right over the head of Tagliafico.
07:16Comes inside, takes a good touch, gets a little bit of the break of the ball.
07:20Here he is onside, he's well onside.
07:23And you know something, if he shows a little bit of composure,
07:27it's a big ask maybe, but Tom Launce has got to tap in.
07:30See if he takes a touch, Launce has got to tap in.
07:33That said, very bright start from Rangers.
07:38Lucas Perry with a really important save from the Brazilian,
07:42signed in January from Botafogo.
07:45Lopes, the Portuguese goalkeeper, has been number one.
07:51And rather bombed out of the first-team squad.
07:54He's been a bit vocal about that this week,
07:57that he hasn't had an explanation, but he's not even on the bench this evening.
08:01That's given away by Maitland-Niles, straight to James Tavernier.
08:06You're actually spot on in your assessment,
08:08and I probably didn't do Lucas Perry justice there, it was a good save.
08:15Malik Fofana with the delivery.
08:19There's Roman Proper away, it will be struck.
08:23Well, John Suter took the full force of that.
08:28Nice little nutmeg there, I don't know if he caught that one.
08:31I do enjoy a nutmeg, that was a nice little one there.
08:36Corentin Tolisso, a former Bayern Munich player.
08:39Oh, he's got to lift his head, he's got to lift his head and give it to Launce earlier.
08:43Launce has it now, Desser's peeling away.
08:47Just can't quite find the space, but he can tee up Cherney.
08:52Rangers just looking to be a little too intricate in the box.
08:57You're spot on, you've got to get a shot away there, you must get a shot away.
09:05There's encouragement though, isn't there?
09:08Definitely, I was slightly critical of Jeff Derea,
09:10I felt he should have used Tom Launce earlier,
09:13who would have made a terrific run-in between the right-centre-back,
09:16Marta and Maitland-Niles.
09:20It will be a slightly vulnerable defence for Lyon,
09:24they've conceded 12 goals in six league fixtures.
09:31Including four against 10-man Marseille.
09:41Tolisso again,
09:44Champions League winner this time with Bayern.
09:47He also has had some experience of playing and winning in Glasgow against Celtic in 2017.
09:55That was slack there from Clinton, Marta.
09:58Won't have impressed that man, for the touch he took there.
10:02He's done a fine job getting the club back up to sixth in the table,
10:06after, as I said, taking the job when they were bottom.
10:10He was given the job on an interim basis,
10:13that then became a to-the-end-of-season,
10:15and he did enough to then get a two-year contract.
10:20Just see and hear some pyrotechnics that have been lit up.
10:30Causing a bit of disruption,
10:32that the referee is going to cause a delay here.
10:45The obvious question would be,
10:47where are they coming from?
10:49Because clearly you would think they're not coming from inside.
10:52Are they coming from inside the stadium?
10:54I don't think so.
10:55There's the obvious ones that are in the stadium,
10:57but the actual fireworks seem to be going over the roof of the Copeland stand.
11:08Fourth official, Tobias Reichelt,
11:11in conversation with the police.
11:16We're fine to continue.
11:23Here's Schäfte, who's already had some joy down this left-hand side.
11:27They're in Bayrami.
11:29That's a great ball through to Lawrence with the effort.
11:32Somehow it's knocked over the top by Vaclav Czerny.
11:38Red face, the Czech winger.
11:41How did he not make this 1-0?
11:45Well, in answer to your question, I've got no idea.
11:47Brilliant from Lawrence, lovely run.
11:50I mean, Dessers should probably go out his road quicker,
11:52but there's no excuse for that, I've got to say to you.
11:54That's a brilliant run, a great pass.
11:56Good save.
11:57Oh, just keep it down.
11:58I mean, Dessers is nowhere near him.
12:00Just keep it down and hit the targets.
12:02Easy as the tap-ins.
12:03Remarkable, Mesh, remarkable.
12:15Diomondi leaves it.
12:19Lyon let off the hook there.
12:22Now Fofana looking to go up the other end.
12:26And Tolisso, Cherki, Lacazette.
12:31Lost it momentarily, but now it comes to Maitland-Niles.
12:37Lacazette looks to link the play.
12:39It's Lacazette with power.
12:42And Butlin beats it away.
12:47The first threat from Lyon.
12:54Cherki, who's a real danger, great feet.
12:57Fofana!
12:59And this time, they do find the nets.
13:03Lyon, who should have been one down just moments ago,
13:09have the lead in Glasgow.
13:11And it's Malik Fofana, the 19-year-old Belgian,
13:14who strikes through the smoke to give Lyon the 1-0 advantage.
13:19I think the run here from Maitland-Niles takes Jefty.
13:21Watch, watch.
13:22That's the run.
13:23Brilliant run.
13:24Takes Jefty away.
13:25Great skill.
13:26Look at their lovely feet there, left to right.
13:28He does really, really well there.
13:31It's a brilliant run.
13:33And the ball just breaks it.
13:34As calm as the finish is, it really is.
13:36But what a run from Cherki.
13:38He's got something.
13:39Moves the feet really quick.
13:41And the ball breaks, as you correctly say, to Malik Fofana.
13:44And it's a lovely little finish.
13:49But getting back to the move, the initial run,
13:52it's a great run from Ainslie Maitland-Niles, Rory.
13:55And what he does, he gives Jefty a problem,
13:57who has to match the run.
13:59And that's where the space comes into play
14:02for the great feet of Ryan Cherki.
14:05And he moves it from left to right.
14:07Beautiful.
14:08And the finish was excellent.
14:11The two young men combining Cherki,
14:14who is Leon born and bred.
14:17Malik Fofana in January signing from Ghent.
14:2119 million euros.
14:23It's his second goal of the season.
14:25Well, two goals in two games, actually,
14:26with the 95th-minute winner at Toulouse at the weekend.
14:29But Rangers have had some joy,
14:32and Lawrence unable to win the race against Clinton Matter.
14:36It's a brilliant run again from Lawrence Rory.
14:38He comes short and then just spins in behind.
14:40Excellent ball.
14:45Jefty loses out.
14:49Vertout.
14:59It's Cherki looking for the ball through.
15:02It was Tanguy Fico that made the run from deep.
15:09Leaving a gap at the back,
15:11but it was covered by Chileta Tsar.
15:14And now here goes Fofana.
15:17Pass one, and in comes Barron.
15:19A really important challenge.
15:21He got the timing perfectly.
15:31In these sorts of games,
15:33you've got to take your chances when you're on top,
15:36and Rangers had as golden an opportunity
15:39as they could have wished for.
15:42And boy, have they been punished.
15:47Cherki.
15:49The formation is to play out on the right-hand side,
15:52but he will drift.
15:54He will pick up whichever pockets he wants.
15:56He gets freedom.
15:58And I think particularly with Maitland-Niles as well.
16:01We'll remember him from coming through at Arsenal.
16:04He was much more of an attacking player than a right-back,
16:07so he'll be keen to get forward.
16:09I still think, and I make no apology for making the point again,
16:12the goal actually starts from his run.
16:14Unselfish run, which creates the space,
16:16poses the problem for Jefty.
16:18That's where it all starts.
16:29It's proper.
16:31First goal, Rangers have conceded
16:33since Callum McGregor scored at Celtic Park against them.
16:45Barron.
16:47And Vairame.
16:49Fine pick-out for Jefty,
16:51who's in space again to find Cherni and Dessers.
16:57And it's struck by Lawrence!
17:02Rangers level.
17:05And they weren't behind for long,
17:07it may have come at a cost.
17:09Tom Lawrence.
17:12Picking up a knock in the process, Lucas Perry.
17:16I think perhaps deceived by Dessers,
17:19and Lawrence made no mistake.
17:22It's a great move again, lovely football,
17:24that's a smashing ball, he picks him out.
17:26Cherni takes a heavy touch, shocking pass back.
17:28Dessers should score.
17:31He really should, Dessers should score,
17:33but Tom Lawrence again, just gambling.
17:35It's a really poor header back, he's onto it.
17:38And it's a goal, I think it's...
17:40I think it's Tolisso with a head back, is it?
17:42Could be.
17:43Dessers should do better.
17:45I hope he doesn't foul the goalkeeper,
17:47but anyway, Lawrence scores.
17:52Well, it's a perfect answer, it really is.
17:55A little bit of a comedy of errors,
17:58defensively for Lyon, but...
18:01you'd have to say certainly,
18:03on chances created in the opening 15 minutes or so,
18:07they deserved to be level rangers.
18:13What a goal it was he scored at the weekend,
18:15that took a VAR delay before being confirmed.
18:18This one, this check is over, the goal is good,
18:22there's no worry about any foul on the goalkeeper
18:25from Cyril Dessers.
18:29Helped ably by Corentin Tolisso,
18:34a World Cup winner,
18:36with a slack back header to his goalkeeper.
18:39The goalkeeper's raging, so he should be.
18:42It's a poor header, it really is.
18:44And as I say, I still think Dessers should probably do a little bit better,
18:47but thankfully Tom Lawrence, again, proving his worth.
18:51Well, and we're back to where we started,
18:53and where we probably should be.
18:55Yeah, I think that's fair.
19:05But it certainly livens things up when you add a couple of goals in.
19:09It's a good goal, Rory, it really is,
19:11because what happens when Bayrami drops into a little bit of a pocket,
19:15the ball's played into him, and he can turn,
19:17and he's got a willing runner on his left-hand side there,
19:20Ghefti, who puts a good ball in.
19:23It's a well-worked goal.
19:24And you picked up on, certainly with the Lyon goal,
19:27Maitland-Niles makes that fantastic run,
19:30but we've seen it at the opposite end of the field,
19:33that that looks to be an area where Rangers can get some joy
19:36down that left-hand side.
19:42It's Tagliafico under pressure from Cerny.
19:54Here we see it, it's a heavy touch.
19:56Caliso, that's a really poor header, really poor.
20:00Dessers should do better.
20:03He thought for a horrible minute there,
20:05he might have just held the goalkeeper with his left arm,
20:07but the goal is given.
20:09Tom Launce does really well on his toes.
20:11Sharp, very sharp.
20:13He scores on the goal where he got the winner at the weekend.
20:18You're right, Dessers probably should score,
20:20but he does have that instinct to reach the header.
20:23Yeah, the mistake.
20:24You'd have been all over that one.
20:25Oh, yeah, just gamble.
20:28Up goes John Suter.
20:36Jeff Day, which Dessers will chase up against Mata.
20:49For Fana, the target, it will be Tavernier's ball.
20:54Virtut, or rather, Matic, to go forward.
21:00Celeta-Car, the Croatian,
21:04in the squad to host Scotland next week,
21:08and then they play Poland after that.
21:11Mata, the Angolan,
21:13who actually played under Philippe Clement at Genk
21:17and Club Bruges,
21:19where he won a couple of titles in Belgium
21:22under the now Rangers manager.
21:24There goes Barron, looking to snap it into a tackle,
21:27and he did enough to put his opponent off
21:30in very good form,
21:32and he's got the ball,
21:33and he's got the ball,
21:35and he's got the ball,
21:37and he's got the ball,
21:39and he's got the ball,
21:53Jeff Day's rolling all-day on this left-side,
21:55he really is.
21:57We can see the movement from Barram,
21:59he's good, taking Maitland-Niles in the field a little bit,
22:02and that's exploiting the space,
22:04sorry, leaving the space for Jeff Day,
22:07from Barron, Fofana read that one, Tolisso on his outside, Fofana who's already scored
22:13once he wants it on that right foot and in from Lacazette and you cannot give
22:21players of that quality that kind of an opportunity because Alexandra Lacazette
22:30will punish you and he has done just that to Rangers
22:33ah it's a really poor goal to lose isn't it, Connor Barron plays a blind ball
22:41it's the worst ball in the game does it look
22:45one thing you would say the one thing you would say on his toes Malik Fofana it's a
22:51shocking ball into an area that he doesn't he doesn't see and he then shows fantastic composure
22:58and very unselfish as well just relating to the part of
23:01Lacazette look he could have shot himself that's what he does he opens it up
23:05and there's the finish there but again getting back to the initial pass
23:10how many times you see it Rory you're playing a ball blind into an area not good not advisable
23:19that's what can happen you get punished like that particularly at this level
23:22yes Malik Fofana was really sharp but it's a really poor ball
23:26hand of apology from Connor Barron but it's major damage done
23:34it's Alexandra Lacazette moves on to 183 goals for Lyon only Fleury Di Nalo has scored more for
23:43the club and when you think about some of the players that have come through this Lyon side
23:50some going five years at Arsenal as well
23:56that's brilliant that is Fofana really is
23:59oh he's enjoying it isn't he enjoying himself down that left-hand side
24:06Ramon Diamonde is
24:10down at the moment should be okay just to get himself back up I think he took a knock to the
24:17face yeah he was chasing that second ball wasn't he he may just get caught with a flailing arm
24:26yeah Matic just catches him about a finger in the eye
24:35was in the presence of greatness Ali not half two of the best there
24:48I'm seeing Sir Alex next week got an interview with him next week down in Manchester which I'm
24:51looking forward to Rory there's a five-hour sit down well it's been known to happen with Sir Alex
25:03and he's in great company there obviously John Greg
25:12it's been a goal in Portugal as well Marcus Rashford has put
25:17Manchester United one up against Porto
25:34look at the space down the left-hand side here the one thing about Lacazette great
25:39finisher great goal scorer he'll not fancy going back the way too much
25:44a wonderful pick out this time from Barrett to Jefty but couldn't find by Rami now they all look
25:50to pass their way out but it's a loose one straight to Diamonde, Dessers the link man
25:54Diamonde into the box he's been chased and harried and pressured by Vertout and forces the error
26:00yeah he summed that up perfectly nine times out of ten he had a fancy of his chances Diamonde
26:07but the defensive work from Jordan Vertout was absolutely first clash
26:22Erasmus Hoyland has made it 2-0 to Manchester United
26:29start for them great turn by Dessers felt that he was being held by Chilet Ansar
26:38having a word in the ear of the fourth official Chilet a great ball and jump
26:56this John Suter and by Rami what a first touch oh what a touch
27:01Jefty now motoring on ahead of him is with the Brazilian
27:05Jefty what a goal this would be if Rangers can convert they might do with Dessers
27:10Chilet Ansar got a vital tackle in it's still on it's Lawrence the scorer of
27:17Rangers equalizer at the time now Tavernier and Dessers is there
27:21well Leon clinging on at the moment as Mata helps that one forward to Lacazette but we know that
27:35they're a threat going forward Mata stays down Lacazette wants a yellow card to come out here
27:43and there will be Suter I think I think it is
27:52that's a foul there clear foul
28:03not to be overly picky but I don't know if it's just a
28:07Premier League thing in England but yes I thought that yes showing the yellow cards
28:13by a player the imaginary yellow card was supposed to lead to a yellow card
28:17well there's John Suter who has been that's what I thought Rory I'm going to say something
28:23right now what a first touch that was from by Rami in the left hand side
28:31I'm not sure that's a yellow card I think the other one might be I think that might be
28:35to be honest I think he's probably going the wrong way about the referee
28:38I think John Suter's very unfortunate I think Robin Propper's the one that's fortunate that
28:42might have been the yellow card
28:47but what a touch what a touch that was in the left hand side from Nadim by Rami beautiful
28:55it really is an area where Rangers have had joy and we know how talented Ryan Cherki is on
29:02the right and we've said he'll float he'll take up difficult positions but it leaves space for
29:07Rangers to attack watch us what a cross it is but watch this that's sensational that is fantastic
29:14and then to catch it catch it with the right foot and then the same movement
29:16the left foot you take it with you that's beautiful absolutely beautiful
29:24he's stepping into the jersey well isn't it Nadim by Rami yes
29:29I still think there's proven in him but from what we've seen so far Rory yes I think I
29:33definitely think there's a player there
29:38Chefty hangs one up there
29:41just won't break for him will it
29:46this is good movement from Dessler's getting in front again he's behind the defender and then
29:49he moves in front at the last minute watch this behind goes in front there and you know something
29:54should probably do better Rory once he his movement's good as he leaves it to the last
29:59minute to get in front of the defender once he gets there he should get more power in the header
30:02and he should put it back where he came from in the opposite corner well Nemanja Matic is
30:10off the field right now and he's gone straight up the tunnel Leon are going to make a change
30:19risky pass from Jordan Vertout
30:26who will be coming on
30:33Czerny and Varane
30:45so Nemanja Matic's 101st appearance in European football coming to a premature end
30:57former Chelsea Benfica Manchester United Roma midfielder setting off
31:03sorry I was just going to say that John Suter is looking at the right-hand
31:06side to Czerny the ball's the left-hand side all day every day
31:12who's Maxence Saccharé who did play here three years ago in the victory for Leon
31:22so
31:28that's interesting the two times Rangers and Leon have met
31:322007 in the Champions League 2021 in the Europa League going on from it Rangers have made the
31:40final in each of those European seasons of a European competition
31:47so
31:50Cherokee and Fofana looking for Lacazette
31:57Tessars can't quite hold it in
32:11Saccharé
32:12will just go into that holding position that Mata was
32:17occupying certainly doesn't have the experience of the Serbian
32:3210th game in charge in Europe for Philippe Clameau
32:42so
33:04to clear up the line but proper can only drop that into the path of Tolisso
33:12so
33:18proper gets in front of the skipper Lacazette
33:42so
33:57it's the same score line over in Portugal Manchester United's lead has been cut back
34:032-1 Pepe has equalized still going
34:11lovely little ball lovely little Denkova he's by Rami
34:17Tessars
34:20Diamonde encouraged to shoot his first touch was a little heavy
34:24Tolisso and now Fofana's away from Barron he's a threat every time he goes to the Rangers defense
34:32Fofana into the box saved by Butlin away from Suter but that was the main surprise is that the
34:39net didn't bulge oh that's brilliant look at the speed he just gets the touch there before
34:45Barron comes across but he completely wrong foot Suter to come inside him that's brilliant
34:49I mean that is fabulous the finish is actually poor Rory with the greatest respect and it's not
34:55good at all because it's straight at the goalkeeper not in a corner at all but the build-up play
34:59initially from the young man out in the wing there was absolutely first class
35:21there's no doubt about it there's going to be chances in this game at both ends
35:27the two lads in wide positions have been excellent opening half hour
35:33Cherokee in this right hand side as we see he's got a little bit of freedom
35:36and obviously Malik Fofana on the other side Rory I think they've been very very good really good
35:45two but he just leaves it for by Rami now Lawrence
35:48played out by Chaleta Sarr not a good position to run from Lawrence
36:01Diamonde and Barron
36:06Jeff Dade away it goes from Mata Barron couldn't quite intercept Cherokee finds Vertu
36:14Tolisso who has been exchanging positions with Lacazette
36:23doesn't just play as an out and out center forward he'll drop deep Tolisso will replace him there
36:37Mata all the way back but a bit of space for Maitland-Niles to
36:41look to continue this control from Lyon
36:52Sakurai and Fofana Sakurai goes for the return
36:57they just have it back with Dessers on that straight to Ryan Cherokee
37:03Maitland-Niles with one thought in his head is to get forward Cherokee slips it to Lacazette Cherokee
37:10oh they're so so dangerous and you cannot present those sorts of opportunities
37:16cut their own throats I mean it's incredible again worth a mention another overlap from
37:20Maitland-Niles creates a bit of space but I don't know what Dessers is thinking about there
37:29this is by Rami combined Rami picks out Lawrence the referee did well to get out of the way of that
37:36one
37:45few loose passes from Rangers they have to be more secure in possession
37:52Tavernier, Cherney
37:57Tavernier goes again and they've got in behind on the right hand side this time
38:02Tavernier, Dessers at the back post Mata just manages to flick it away off the top of his head
38:10yeah another good opening from Rangers down the right hand side this time
38:13good work involving Cherney and Tavernier who hangs one up at the back post but well defended
38:21English Premier League action coming up this weekend Crystal Palace against Liverpool that's
38:27Saturday 11am TNT Sports 1 and Discovery Plus
38:34by Rami to the byline oh that was awkward for Perry then it forces the corner
38:42creating the left hand side from by Rami my initial reaction was he's to
38:47deliver the cross perhaps one touch earlier than he did
38:50maybe I'm wrong but it's certainly a good break
38:57so
39:19Tavernier to the back post just too much on that Lawrence couldn't catch up
39:27and Cyril Dessers turned appealingly to the referee felt he'd been impeded
39:58there's Clinton Mata
40:14technically a fecal just to work that one out wide Leon taking their time for now
40:21when they do quicken it and go forward and isolate their wide runners like Bofana they've
40:27done it so well here it's past Suter Jefty able to find Tavernier and Butler will now
40:33look to clear oh it's all a little bit risky
40:40proper away but Sakurai Cherkey couldn't take it in
40:46couldn't take it in
40:49Suter hits Diamonde you can just hear a few groans of frustration
41:00Jefty by Rami takes it on the turn dead dead well now Cherney
41:06Dessers and Lawrence in the middle Cherney to go for goal deflectance
41:16yeah he cuts inside he's only got one thought in his mind good defensive header
41:27see this is all too all too slack for me Rory you look there's no there's no pressure to take a quick
41:34corner i just think it's lacklustre i think they walk over to it they take a touch
41:41you're at home a european night you're one behind you've got to do everything quicker i don't care
41:45what end this is you've got to do everything quicker probably worth keeping an eye on
41:49Dessers and lack of that Dessers felt that he was fouled in the delivery from the last corner
41:55might want a better delivery from Tavernier
41:58oh and Barron was brought down play on chance to swing one back into the middle
42:08Matta away only as far as Suter Dessers can leave it for by Rami
42:14Cherney wants it by Rami has other ideas it's now Cherney with power but
42:20well wide of the target without the deflection that Cherney thought
42:24great feet by Rami i know he went for the back heel put it in the place for Cherney
42:29i still think he's gonna hit it and i'll tell you when now that's great there i know what he does
42:35and it's unselfish but i think he should pull the trigger this is the earlier one on
42:40Dessers Ali you can just see a corner of no not for me no chance
42:54Tavernier forward Dessers may be offside we'll play on for now Matta Dessers now has it Maitland
43:05Niles will get Leon out and now the flag does go up yeah and Matta has gone down as well
43:13remember Pierre Saez has already lost Nemanja Matic
43:27he certainly looks uncomfortable doesn't he
43:32he's tighter than you think he probably is just offside he's put under good pressure there isn't
43:37Dessers looks like a hamstring certainly looks like a right hamstring
43:46we'll join us ringside in Liverpool this Saturday at seven o'clock for Nick Ball's homecoming fight
43:51as he defends his WBA featherweight title for the first time against American Ronnie Rios that's on
43:59TNT Sports 2 and Discovery Plus and on Saturday the 12th of October we're back in Riyadh
44:04for another extraordinary card that includes Fabio Wardley versus Fraser Clark 2 and a
44:11mouth-watering undisputed main event between Artur Piterbiev and Dmitry Bivol watching live on TNT
44:19Sports box office well it's been a rather lively start here at Eibroch Stadium with Malik Forfana
44:34opening the scoring between Tom Lawrence profited
44:37for some from some slack defending at the back from Leon Butts
44:44Alexandra Lacazette presented with an opportunity that he was never going to miss
44:50and Leon restored into the lead
45:12there's been an equalizer now as well for Porto two each
45:15Samu has scored that one
45:25Dessers and well Shaleta Tsar was only looking at the man there not the ball
45:33Cherokee with the quick feet wonderful feet from Ryan Cherokee he will get the free kick
45:38we need another look at that his feet are unbelievable I mean Forfana on one side's
45:42been terrific he's been a great watch I mean similar for the goal where he moves it left to
45:46right but lovely Ryan Cherokee watch this there's a wee over for you left to right magic
45:55and he gets a free kick he's talented very talented completely different they've got a
46:00lovely balance in forward areas the wide areas obviously I mentioned Malik Forfana who's
46:05who's had a fantastic opening first half as well but the close control of Ryan Cherokee
46:11there is something to behold lovely now there's Moussa Niakate the club record signing from
46:18Nottingham Forest 32 million euros making his European debut this evening he hasn't been able
46:26to get into the team because Clinton Matter has started every game likewise 2J Chalet and Tsar
46:35alongside him
46:40oh Cherokee he's putting on a bit of a show I just wonder if he's got any videos out
46:54that's it that's it oh you can't even have a nap dear me brilliant absolutely brilliant
47:04two minutes to go of normal time in the first half we understand
47:14the current plan is to add a further five
47:21Cherokee of the out swinger Robin Proper wins it and the second attempt after Vertu had
47:30sent it back into the middle by Rami he's calm and Jeff Dey
47:37knocks it up towards halfway but Leon will come back Tagliafico
47:48Jeff Dey secure enough in getting it back to Butland
48:00so
48:11the range is not so secure with their passing out from the back and that will
48:14frustrate Philly Clermont invites this pressure from Leon
48:22so
48:27it's been a really open first half Rory you know one or two errors but one or two
48:32lovely bits of football as well I've enjoyed it I still think there's something in it for
48:36Rangers if they lift the tempo
48:39so
48:45is there much you can do to contain that front three that Leon have or do you just need to
48:51accept that they can do damage because they're such good players
48:55a little bit of both a little bit but you're going to accept the challenge of that they are
48:58going to create and they're going to have their fair share of the ball the likes you can attempt
49:02to double up which is important as well if you if you get time to do it of course easier said
49:07done something here's Lacazette the crowd on that side thought the ball was out but Lacazette
49:15rifles in an absolute wonder goal it's a double from the Leon captain and that was something very
49:22special indeed from Alexandre Lacazette in stoppage time at the end of the first half
49:29Leon have three and their front three have been sensational they really have this is absolutely
49:35ridiculous what a goal this is again fast feet there brilliant what a touch comes across dear me
49:44that is absolutely magnificent it really is I mean they can't get out to him he cuts inside
49:51best part of 20 yards knows exactly what he's doing he's whipping it with a lot of pace and a
49:59lot of aggression into Jack Butler's top left hand corner that's as good as you'll get tonight
50:04anywhere and it really is a tale of top quality at the top end of the park that has unraveled rangers
50:17there's a potential offside in the lead up to the goal that is being looked at at the moment
50:25well I'm going to tell you right now it'd be almost criminal criminal to disallow that
50:30I know the rules of the rules but that was that was absolutely special it really was special
50:37I think some thought the ball was out of play on the far side
50:42and the check is on going for the offside
50:51and a wait for Pierre Sargent's Lacazette
50:56I'll tell you this will go down as a big for rangers no it's given it's given goal is given
51:03Leon leads by three goals to one improper sends it long towards Dessers who
51:12looks like he's up for that physical battle with Chileta Sark
51:25well that's taking this thing out of the crowd a little bit hasn't it
51:31and so it should I think there's even
51:36applause from the range of supporters for that goal Rory what a finish that was that was superb
51:43so
51:48and Alexandre Lacazette not too happy with the attention that he received there from
51:55Mohamed Diamande first goals of the season for the Leon skipper that's 30 goals now in
52:03European competition across his career Rangers now halted by the foul on Neocatet
52:34so
52:44John Suter's header that's Leon who are just looking to see out
52:49the final minute and a bit of this first half with a healthy lead
52:54that's well one though by proper now by Rami Propper's continued his run and is taking his
53:02spot up at the back post if Cerny can get this over to him there's Tavernier drops for Lawrence
53:09now hits proper Cerny turns into trouble Diamande now Proper acting as a winger it's a great ball
53:20now Proper acting as a winger it's a great ball in two tries of handball against Chalet at Sark
53:30Vertu goes down then there was a bit of afters again between
53:34Lacazette and Diamande it's a lovely ball in from Proper
53:50brings it back on his right foot good delivery in Tom Launch is coming across
54:04well that should see us to the end of this first half
54:11so
54:16it's been the first half when they have been promising times for Rangers but it's
54:22the quality up the other end which has been their undoing and it has been
54:29of the highest quality from the front three of Leon particularly that man Alexandre Lacazette
54:36you've got to say the front three's been electric opening 45 minutes
54:43for Fafana on the left Lacazette more central and the quick feeder Brian Cherokee on the right-hand side
54:53Diamande Rangers not finished for this half yet though by Rami they'd love to get one back here
54:59was he clipped no says the referee and the fans frustration continues now Baron could still be on
55:08for Rangers down this left-hand side Diamande Baron who is breaking ranks from his midfield
55:14position but that does bring up the halftime whistle and a 45 minutes which has been lit up by
55:21Alexandre Lacazette who scored twice the second of which was an absolute beauty after Tom Lawrence
55:30netted in back-to-back games for the first time since his first month as a Rangers player that
55:36equalized Malik Fafana's equally delightful opener for Leon and at the break at Ibrox stadium
55:43it's Rangers one Olympic Lyonnais three
