00:00A formerly faceless YouTuber is going back behind the mask, but is it all just a stunt?
00:05Or did the hate really get to him?
00:07I can't even see!
00:08I can't even see!
00:11Dream has faced highs and lows since he finally revealed his face to the world.
00:15Until October 2022, the YouTuber, famous for his Minecraft content, always wore his smiley-faced
00:20mask on camera.
00:22Dream showed his true appearance in a dramatic series of videos, causing a social media frenzy
00:26from fans and critics.
00:28Now, Dream says he's hiding himself again, and will apparently resume his anonymity.
00:33Unlike other faceless streamers on YouTube, Dream didn't conceal his face for privacy.
00:38As he told Anthony Padilla in an interview, his makeshift mask became part of his persona
00:42when his channel unexpectedly soared in popularity.
00:45"...I just blew up so quickly, and then it kind of became part of the fan art and part
00:49of the community so quickly."
00:50However, Dream wanted to meet his friends and collaborators in person, as well as host
00:55fan events, so he finally showed his face to everyone.
00:58But the face reveal wasn't wholly positive.
01:00He's ugly and put the mask back on trended on Twitter.
01:04"...No, glasses on, hair back up.
01:08Let's just get that hair right back up."
01:09Now after months of making content with his face exposed, Dream is supposedly masking
01:14up for good.
01:15Here's why.
01:16In a jokey video posted on June 9th, Dream explained how and why he'll use his mask in
01:20public again.
01:21The video starts with Dream browsing hundreds of comments from people calling him ugly and
01:25telling him to put his mask back on.
01:27His friends and fellow streamers join in and jokingly agree that he is ugly and that he
01:31needs to cover his face to restore his viewership.
01:33"...We delete everything.
01:34We go back.
01:35We go back to what, seven months ago?"
01:38After realizing he can't see well with his original mask and smashing up his keyboard,
01:42the satirical video shows Dream contacting a mask designer to create a new face for his
01:46YouTube empire.
01:47According to Dream, the mask designer previously made masks for Spider-Man, Batman, and Black
01:52Panther.
01:53It's unclear whether these masks were for cosplayers or movies starring these characters,
01:57but they seemed serious about the job.
01:59The resulting, 3D-printed mask is supposedly comfortable, but Dream didn't look very comfortable
02:03at the end of the video.
02:05As his colleagues cheer the return of the old Dream, the YouTuber wonders if masking
02:09up will make it hard to date girls or eat food.
02:11The video ends with Dream ordering McDonald's, but not with the mobile app.
02:15The YouTuber hits the drive-thru instead, unafraid in his new mask.
02:19In the video description, Dream writes,
02:21"...after face revealing and removing my mask, I regretted the attention and hate, and am
02:25walking it back."
02:27According to the Minecraft speedrunner, this video is the first step in reclaiming his
02:30anonymity, as Dream will also supposedly delete all photos he posted of himself in the past
02:35months.
02:36He has also removed his collaboration video with Mr. Beast and his original face reveal
02:40clip, both of which gained millions of views when they were first posted.
02:43Dream also notes in the description that he plans to be Dream 24-7 from now on, although
02:48it's unclear how earnest he is about this point.
02:50His message ends,
02:51"...thank you all from the bottom of my heart to those that supported me, even though I
02:55am ugly.
02:56I appreciate you all more than you could ever know, and I will be working on my face while
03:00unmasked again."
03:01The replies below Dream's newest video have been divided, to say the least.
03:04While many fans have expressed their sadness and the hope that he can move past all of
03:08the online bullying, others simply aren't buying it.
03:11Musician and YouTuber CG5 quipped that he's already anticipating another big face reveal
03:16video from Dream.
03:17Others have noted that Dream has a new single on the way, and that this new video could
03:21just be a slight bit of promotion for the song Until I End Up Dead, which is heard at
03:25the end, as Dream picks up his McDonald's.
03:27Whether or not this is all a hoax, Dream's fans will just have to wait and see… or
03:31not see.
