Record-breaking heat continues scorching the Southwest

Widespread extreme heat has taken hold across the Desert Southwest this October.

00:00We are tracking record-breaking heat continuing here across the desert southwest and the west

00:05coast. So let's go ahead and get right into the latest here. This stubborn and oppressive heat

00:08dome is going to continue to strengthen and intensify here as we head into the weekend.

00:13So here's the latest as far as temperature-wise, what exactly are we going to be looking forward

00:17to here for us? Because it's going to be unprecedented here for some areas. Some

00:21areas are still going to be dealing with very hot weather. We're talking temperatures 5, 6,

00:25even 7 degrees above normal here for this time of year. So this is what we're going to be watching

00:29out for for some parts of the U.S., especially the southwest. So overall here for us, we will

00:34be watching out for the temperatures climbing. As you can see right here, these are the temperatures

00:38possible being broken on Saturday. Palm Springs, California, up to 114, 3 degrees above the record

00:45high. And that record was set back in 1987. But in addition to that, Imperial California, Phoenix,

00:50Denver, Colorado Springs are even going to see record-breaking temperatures here as we head

00:54throughout Saturday. And then as we head into Sunday, more areas are going to be in the triple

00:59digits. Look at this. Once again, Imperial, Phoenix, Tucson now on Sunday. But also Vegas and Albuquerque

01:06will be challenging, if not setting, in some cases breaking, well-breaking record high temperatures

01:11here as we head into Sunday. So this is going to be the kind of unprecedented heat that we are

01:16going to be tracking. So here's the overall setup for Saturday. We're just going to be seeing that

01:20heat dome just intensifying across the desert southwest. And then as we head into Sunday, you

01:24can see that that area of hot on this map is pretty much going to increase a little bit. It's going to

01:30move a little bit more into parts of southern Nevada. So as we head into Saturday, when you

01:34look at the forecast highs versus the record highs, a couple areas are standing out. We are going to

01:39see widespread record-breaking temperatures for Saturday and record-breaking temperatures here as

01:43we head throughout Sunday as well. So we're going to continue to track this and keep you up to date
