Thai sanctuary struggles to save elephants, animals after flash floods

Thai authorities and conservationists struggle to rescue over 100 elephants, dozens of pigs and other animals after flash flooding hit the country's northern Chiang Mai province, a senior official said on Oct. 4, 2024. The elephant is Thailand's national animal and a white elephant, a symbol of good fortune, was featured on the Thai flag, at one point in time. A number of pigs and buffaloes were still stranded in a village that is now completely flooded, said conservationist Saengduan Chailert.
