Thousands join pro-Palestine rallies across Europe as anniversary of Gaza war nears

The war in Gaza, which started on 7 October last year, has seen more than 41,000 Palestinians killed and decimated the Strip. Almost 100 Israelis are still being held hostage by Hamas, with fewer than 70 believed to be alive.

00:19That sparked clashes between police and some protesters.
00:23In London, thousands marched to Downing Street amid a heavy police presence.
00:27The Met police say at least 17 people were arrested after scuffles broke out between
00:32opposing protest groups.
00:35Rallies were also planned in several other countries across Europe, including Greece,
00:39Denmark and Switzerland.
00:41The war started on the 7th of October last year after Hamas launched a surprise attack
00:46into Israel, killing 1,200 Israelis and taking 250 hostages.
00:53More than 41,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, but the health ministry doesn't differentiate
00:59between fighters and civilians in its count.
