00:00A packed Highbury on the 11th of May for Arsenal's final league fixture of the 2001-02 season
00:06and a day of celebration for the Gunners with the Championship already sealed.
00:10They'd confirmed the Premiership title with a mid-week victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
00:16Visitors Everton had formed a guard of honour for an Arsenal team
00:19that was encouraged to play exciting and entertaining football.
00:23The team had certainly dispensed with the old boring, boring Arsenal adage.
00:28They were without several familiar names, including David Seaman, Patrick Vieira, Sol Campbell and Tony Adams,
00:33so Lee Dixon, in his final appearance, capped in the side.
00:37Former Gunners favourite Kevin Campbell returned to the ground where he'd started his footballing career.
00:42He'd become a favourite with the fans before he left in the summer of 1995 to join Nottingham Forest.
00:49For Everton, Mark Pembridge was restored to the line-up after a calf injury that had kept him out for 12 games.
00:55Canadian striker Thomas Radzinski partnered Campbell in a tag.
00:59But nothing could spoil the day for Arsene Wenger.
01:02He could be proud of his double-winning side who came into the match on the back of 12 straight Premiership victories.
01:07A 13th looked to be a formality.
01:10Your commentator is Alan Powell.
01:13Arsenal, they don't need to worry about points anymore.
01:16They've just clinched their 12th league title and their third League and Cup double.
01:22After the great days of 1971 and again in 1998 when they proved themselves indisputably England's top club.
01:31Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on
02:01Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on
02:31in the Arsenal goal. Brave header there by Lee Carsley and Dixon cleans things up as he's been doing seemingly forever here at Highbury and gets the ball back again.
02:45Foul by Campbell, a one-time dressing room team mate.
02:48There's Ashley Cole for Arsenal. Their run of 12 consecutive Premiership wins that led them to the title actually began against Everton at Goodison Park back in February.
03:04They have in fact gone 27 domestic games without defeat the Gunners.
03:19Good turn there by Ashley Cole. Watson makes the challenge and then it's cleared by Everton's Alan Stokes but back in.
03:26Oh, what a start. Dennis Bergkamp couldn't believe it, nor could the Everton defence.
03:33They made a complete hash of it and with only three and a half minutes gone, Arsenal have scored yet again. Dennis Bergkamp.
03:40And that maintains Arsenal's fantastic record of having scored in every single lead fixture.
03:51What a mistake there by the Everton defender, Alan Stubbs, caught in possession.
03:56It seemed a straightforward clearance. It was nicked away from him and Bergkamp accepted the gift.
04:03Awful defending by Everton. Dennis Bergkamp gets goal number 14 of the season for him.
04:16Well, if there was any doubt about the celebrations beginning, that doubt has been swept away now.
04:22Well, Arsenal's unstoppable roll towards the major honours goes on.
04:29But a chance here straight away for Everton to draw a level through Lee Carsley.
04:34Caught it well enough, but it was well read by Richard Wright.
04:41And then he thought that it was a chance for Everton.
04:45Richard Wright.
04:50And then he thought that Arsenal might treat this like a testimonial game. It's been quickly dispelled.
04:55Eight minutes gone, Everton have hardly had a touch of the ball and they've already conceded.
05:01Kevin Campbell finds Raczynski as Everton try to get back in the picture without success.
05:06Kicks it.
05:09Will talk. Hustled out of it by David Unsworth.
05:13The Everton man tries to feed Campbell and it's not a bad ball for Kevin Campbell.
05:18Another great chance to score on the ground where he started his career.
05:22He applauds the accuracy of the through ball.
05:25And Arsenal's defence didn't look too comfortable here.
05:28Simple ball over the top caught out central defender and covering full back.
05:32Here's Bergkamp up against Stubbs who also made a mess of things for the goal that Bergkamp scored.
05:40That's a lovely ball. Thierry Henry takes it round the keeper and into the side netting.
05:46Everton split asunder again by the pace and movement of Arsenal's attacking players.
05:54The ball is given away to Raczynski. Raczynski takes it on.
05:58Halfway shot and Everton get the equaliser. 20 minutes gone.
06:01attacking players. I must say, he looked well offside, Henri, but it wasn't given.
06:15The ball is given away to Radzynski. Radzynski takes it on. Cosley's shot!
06:19And Everton get the equaliser. 20 minutes gone.
06:23Careless defending this time by Arsenal. And Lee Cosley scores his first ever goal
06:29for Everton to bring them level.
06:33Subdued reaction throughout most of Highbury. A goal greeted almost in silence.
06:39Poor defending there. The ball played straight back to Radzynski.
06:43And when Cosley beat Dixon to the loose ball, really there was only one likely outcome.
06:50And that is an Everton equaliser. Well struck by the Republic of Ireland international.
06:54Wright had no chance really. And Everton have dented the Arsenal defensive record.
07:01Albeit, this is not the true Arsenal defence, I think you'd say.
07:20And Radzynski's got away again here.
07:25It's a decent ball for Pepperidge, far post. Cosley's in a good position again.
07:29He's gone for Campbell. Good save by Wright.
07:48Back in towards Ungsworth. Up against Dixon.
07:55It wasn't a great cross, but it could have easily caught out the goalkeeper.
08:00Back out.
08:02It's got a little bit too much on that for the Brazilian Edu.
08:14Against English opposition in the last five months, Arsenal have won 23 times and drawn four.
08:22Newcastle, the last team to taste victory over Arsene Wenger's team. Staggering record.
08:29Alexanderson's cross. Radzynski, well placed!
08:32And should have made it 2-1 to Everton. How many more chances are they going to miss
08:37against this uncharacteristically kind Arsenal defence?
08:43Coming up to half an hour gone in this FA Premiership fixture
08:48between the champions, Arsenal and Everton, and it's 1-1.
08:52Dennis Bergkamp giving Arsenal an early lead of the four defending by Everton.
08:58Equally sloppy play at the back by Arsenal, led to Cosley's equaliser.
09:02And Radzynski's going forward, trying to give it a 2-1 advantage to Everton.
09:07This time he has taken it.
09:10Arsenal asleep again, and Radzynski made up for his earlier miss in fine style.
09:16Arsenal 1, Everton 2. Radzynski showed real pace here once he saw daylight.
09:23Got in behind the last defender, and as cool a finish as you'll see.
09:29Well, there are rumours that he may be leaving Everton.
09:32That goal will have helped David Moyes make his mind up, I'm sure,
09:36about the ability of the little Canadian striker.
09:39That was a truly excellent finish.
09:47There's a good ball, if Bergkamp can get there, and he has!
09:53He lays it on for Henry, who equalises!
09:57The Everton defenders aren't happy with the referee.
10:00They felt there was a foul by Bergkamp in the build-up.
10:04But no-one in red, in ivory, is complaining.
10:09Keep an eye on the right-hand corner of the screen.
10:12This is the moment that Everton were complaining about.
10:16They felt that Bergkamp pushed the man off the ball.
10:19He unselfishly then laid it on for Thierry Henry,
10:22to score his 31st goal of the season, and his 23rd in the Premiership.
10:34HE WHISTLES
10:40They do. It's a goal. Straight to Watson.
10:48WHISTLE BLOWS
11:03WHISTLE BLOWS
11:10There's Thierry Henry. A few party pieces from him.
11:13Magnificent piece of skill by Henry.
11:15Bergkamp!
11:17Suspicion of a handball there, and again it's not gone in Everton's favour,
11:21as Ado carries it wide, and the Everton defenders,
11:24for the second time in a couple of minutes,
11:26are very angry with referee Holsing.
11:34WHISTLE BLOWS
11:51Just seconds remaining here at Highbury.
11:55Ramondi to Stepanovs.
11:58WHISTLE BLOWS
12:01Crowd have been entertained.
12:03Dennis Bergkamp certainly entertained them
12:05with the goal that gave Arsenal an early lead.
12:08Thierry Henry also on target,
12:10but Everton had two goals to celebrate themselves,
12:12through Lee Carsley and Thomas Raczynski.
12:15And an entertaining 45 minutes has come to a close
12:18with a 2-2 scoreline at half-time.
12:27WHISTLE BLOWS
12:31WHISTLE BLOWS
12:33It's Everton who get us underway.
12:35Kevin Campbell, who had three decent opportunities in the first half,
12:39misses that header.
12:40Lee Carsley loses out.
12:42Alexanderson trying to win it back,
12:45but only succeeds in giving it away to Bergkamp,
12:47onto Ado.
12:48And the Brazilian tries to ghost-fast
12:51the considerable figure of David Weir
12:54and can't get round the scot.
12:56And Alexanderson can't pick out Raczynski,
12:59who scored that fine goal for Everton.
13:12Wiltord finds Henry.
13:16Back again to Sylvain Wiltord.
13:18Good ball, pulled back, but Ado!
13:21Well, Simonson in the right place
13:23to deny the Brazilian what would have been
13:25his fourth goal of the season.
13:29As Pala tries to scramble it away,
13:31but only gives it to Pembridge.
13:34He can't keep it in play.
13:36Arsenal get the throw.
13:39Arsenal, winners of their fourth title
13:41in the space of 13 years.
13:47Here's Campbell for Everton.
13:48Onto Carsley, good tackle by Luzhnik.
13:54And then another clumsy challenge,
13:56more than anything else.
13:57Results in an Everton free-kick.
14:01And now Lindner.
14:06Campbell, who's got the ball,
14:08and Luzhnik, who's got the ball.
14:10And now the free-kick.
14:11And now the free-kick.
14:31Here's Carsley again.
14:32He hits it well, good save.
14:35Excellent effort, and a superb piece of goalkeeping
14:38by Richard Wright.
14:41Good move, very direct from Everton.
14:43Campbell's header, and what a good strike that was.
14:49Everton have a corner.
14:50Carsley almost had his second goal of the game.
14:53It's over his head, and off the line.
14:58Although it might have actually crossed the touchline
15:02before Lee Dixon made his intervention.
15:06Looked from our angle as though he'd knocked it off the line.
15:08No, it hadn't.
15:09It hit the top of the bar, in fact.
15:13Getting away by Weir, and a foul on him,
15:17by Carsley.
15:19And a foul on him by the enigmatic Thierry Henry.
15:28Carsley's had a good game.
15:29He's going to the World Cup as well,
15:30with the Republic of Ireland.
15:33Scored today, could have had a couple more.
15:36Campbell has not had a good game, I have to say,
15:38back at his old club.
15:40Here's Henry again.
15:43Now Radzinski's got away.
15:44It hit him on the head, but he could still finish here.
15:46Radzinski, and still Radzinski.
15:49Great save by Wright.
15:52Pembridge.
15:55Everton should be in front.
15:56Richard Wright made a wonderful save,
15:59but you have to say,
16:01how many more chances did Radzinski want here
16:05to hit the ball in?
16:06It hit him on the back of the head,
16:07which couldn't have helped,
16:08but he had two other opportunities to hit it,
16:11hesitated twice, and paid the price.
16:20And Wright comes to claim the resulting corner.
16:35Henry's in a chance.
16:36Yeah!
16:37And scores!
16:42Arsenal in front.
16:44How often have we heard that this season?
16:48Thierry Henry, the scorer.
16:50That's a familiar phrase, too.
16:56By his standards, a quiet game.
16:58He's only got the two goals.
17:01He is remarkable.
17:04One of the deadliest finishers in world football.
17:08And once he chested it down,
17:11you knew the outcome.
17:13And the outcome was the third Arsenal goal of the day.

19:40Here's Vieira.
19:42Henry's away!
19:43Is this to be the hat-trick?
19:45What a way to end the season!
19:46No!
19:47Unselfishly for Jeffers,
19:48who's hit the post and ruined his big moment again!
19:53Wow, Henry!
19:54He was sitting up for his third goal of the game,
19:57he said,
19:58there you are, mate,
19:59fill your boots with that one,
20:01and he couldn't.
20:02Franny Jeffers picked up the perfect position,
20:05picked up the perfect ball,
20:07but couldn't find the net.
20:13Watson.
20:15Back again to the three.
20:17Well, that wasn't an end-of-season tackle,
20:19was it, by Ashley Cole?
20:25Now Carsley.
20:28Ginetta.
20:32Oh, good ball.
20:33On to her.
20:35I've lost count of the number of crosses
20:37that Unsworth has wasted today, I'm afraid.
20:48Just to remind you of the significant scores,
20:51Liverpool 4, Ipswich 0,
20:53Sunderland 1, Derby 1,
20:55as Edu comes forward here.
20:58Trying to pick out Jeffers in the middle,
21:00who are certainly doing their best
21:03to give Jeffers a goal today,
21:05his Arsenal team-mates,
21:06but it's just not coming at the moment.
21:10It's Henry again.
21:12Landed, lazy,
21:13almost walking around.
21:18Vieira.
21:19To Dixon.
21:23Now Loosley.
21:25Perkamp.
21:27Henry's peeled away off the last defender,
21:29he's spotted him,
21:30and found him.
21:33Now Jeffers.
21:34Yes!
21:35He's done it!
21:37It took four chances,
21:39but who cares?
21:40Francis Jeffers gets his goal
21:43against his old club, Everton.
21:45And Arsenal get the points now,
21:48that's for sure.
21:53It's only the second time he's scored
21:55in an Arsenal jersey.
21:57The first came seven months ago
21:59against Bolton-Rodgers,
22:01and Bergkamp again
22:03was the man who laid it off.
22:06Lovely ball.
22:07Henry played his part
22:09with a beautiful dink to the far post,
22:12and Jeffers did the rest.
22:22Here's Linderof for Everton.
22:27They're all crumbling now
22:29in the last few minutes here.
22:31As Vieira takes Arsenal forward again,
22:34can't pick out Jeffers this time.
22:38Three minutes of the season to go.
22:42Arsenal, crowned as champions,
22:45are signing off in considerable style.
22:55Henry.
22:57He's playing it like a testimonial game now,
23:00but this time he commits a foul.
23:08Ginola to Campbell.
23:10And the old song that has been adopted
23:14by Freddie Youngberg
23:16rings out around Highbury
23:18as Watson lines up a shot for Everton.
23:21Oh, and he's scored as well,
23:23would you believe it?
23:24Young goalkeeper Taylor came on.
23:26The last thing he would have wanted was to concede,
23:29but that's what's happened.
23:30Steve Watson scoring
23:32through that crowded penalty area.
23:34I'm not sure whether they took a deflection on the way.
23:36Let's have a look.
23:37No, it looks like it went clean in.
23:54Go, go, go, go, go, go!
24:12Here's Edou.
24:15Stoppage time being played.
24:18Not much of it.
24:21Edou again.
24:25Ties it himself.
24:26Edou wants to get in on the goal scoring action now.
24:33That's all over.
24:34And Highbury,
24:35the smiles of satisfaction all around.
24:39Arsenal have won again
24:42their 26th league victory of the season.
24:45Thumbs up from Thierry Henry.
24:47He scored two goals,
24:49could so easily have had his hat tripped.
24:52A wonderful seven goal thriller
24:54ahead of the party celebrations
24:56and a fitting way for Arsenal to finish off a superb season.
25:00They amassed 87 points,
25:02seven more than nearest rivals Liverpool.
25:04Thierry Henry's personal tally,
25:0633 goals in 49 games,
25:0824 of which came in the premiership.
25:11Everton ended up in 15th place.
25:14New manager David Moyes had only joined the club in March
25:17and was to lift them to a respectable seventh
25:20in the Premier League.
