00:00:00Previously, teams have been tackling the biggest rooms yet.
00:00:06It's Kitchen Week.
00:00:07No, it's Living Dining Week.
00:00:08And it didn't take long for things to go wrong.
00:00:09Bit of news about the plaster.
00:00:10I don't know if you've heard.
00:00:11When there was a delay with the biggest chiprock delivery of the season.
00:00:12It's touch and go whether we get some today or not.
00:00:13For everyone?
00:00:14For every house.
00:00:15Yeah, it was coming, then it's not coming, and now it's definitely not coming.
00:00:16Five plasterers?
00:00:17Yeah.
00:00:18Waiting.
00:00:19I've got it.
00:00:20I've got it.
00:00:21I've got it.
00:00:22I've got it.
00:00:23I've got it.
00:00:24I've got it.
00:00:25I've got it.
00:00:26I've got it.
00:00:27I've got it.
00:00:28I've got it.
00:00:29Okay, off-season, we've got the key testing.
00:00:30I've got some bugs here on 80 bucks an hour, mate.
00:00:32And to compound things?
00:00:33Hey.
00:00:34You've got a freaking challenge.
00:00:36I can't do that.
00:00:38I'm not going, no one else goes.
00:00:41Up with the seemingly inconvenient challenge came with a very special silver lining.
00:00:46Now we're in our 20th season and we're going to do something that we've never ever done
00:00:51before.
00:00:52I'll put out a call to High Pages.
00:00:53They've come to the party.
00:00:55They're going to supply each team with a professional painter for two days.
00:01:00Yes!
00:01:01And look, while we're here, I figure I should cover the cost of the plasterers that were
00:01:07standing around yesterday.
00:01:10That's on us.
00:01:11So with the high pages helping hand, our teams were back on track with their biggest rooms
00:01:16on the block.
00:01:17Beautiful.
00:01:18Well, mostly.
00:01:19So, have you started painting yet?
00:01:21Oh no, we have not started painting yet.
00:01:24We just finished plastering and we still need to sand it.
00:01:26Today...
00:01:27This is safe, right?
00:01:28Oh, yeah.
00:01:29Oh, today's probably the worst day I've had on the block.
00:01:33The rooms have the judges singing their praises.
00:01:35Wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah.
00:01:39This feels like one cohesive, warm room.
00:01:43That is one of the most amazing features of this property.
00:01:46Stunning.
00:01:47I don't agree with either of you.
00:01:50Before one room gets a double scooping of tents.
00:01:53Caught in grumpy?
00:01:54Phil's here.
00:01:55Would you like to use him?
00:02:10It's been a massive week on the block, full of ups and downs and all of the contestants
00:02:14are starting to get edgy.
00:02:16Wait, I've got a wedgie.
00:02:17Sorry.
00:02:18Or wedgie.
00:02:20Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
00:02:23Ahhhhhh!
00:02:25That felt good.
00:02:27It's like a pack of gulars.
00:02:29Yeah.
00:02:30How were you feeling when you woke up?
00:02:31Yeah, how were you feeling when you woke up, Courtney?
00:02:33Oh.
00:02:35Sore throat from screaming?
00:02:36Yep.
00:02:37Sore throat from screaming, yep.
00:02:40We're more like early birds than night owls.
00:02:46I would much prefer to go to bed at like 10 or 11
00:02:49and then wake up at four.
00:02:52Hi.
00:02:52Hi.
00:02:53How are you?
00:02:55Good, how are you?
00:02:56Not bad.
00:02:58Been up since 3.30, so feeling a little tired.
00:03:02And the girls aren't the only ones
00:03:03feeling worse for wear on Saturday morning.
00:03:06Big night.
00:03:07You look like Marv off Overload.
00:03:10Yeah, I feel like him.
00:03:11Like who?
00:03:13The tall, skinny dude who always gets the litch kids.
00:03:15Ah!
00:03:19Just waking myself up.
00:03:23Oh, man.
00:03:25Oh, I am stressed.
00:03:29Christian hates Saturdays.
00:03:30Saturdays is a stressful day.
00:03:32Because you're literally looking at an empty space
00:03:35that you'll be delivering in less than 24 hours.
00:03:39And it's no ordinary empty space
00:03:41that our blockheads are transforming this week.
00:03:44Nope, this week they're delivering
00:03:45their living and dining rooms.
00:03:47These are the biggest and arguably
00:03:48the most important rooms in their homes.
00:03:51Because it's in these spaces
00:03:53that prospective buyers will get their first impressions.
00:03:57This week was busy.
00:04:00And it was big.
00:04:01Big and busy.
00:04:02Big and busy.
00:04:03And to give you an idea of just how big this week has been,
00:04:06let's take a shameless walk down memory lane.
00:04:09You're like Judy Roney.
00:04:12Way back in 2003, in the very first season of The Block,
00:04:16the entire floor space for each of the Bondi apartments
00:04:20was approximately 65 square metres.
00:04:2320 years later, the living dining rooms alone
00:04:26are 50 to 75 square metres.
00:04:29So needless to say, everyone is under the pump
00:04:32with 24 hours to go.
00:04:34Surely that's nothing to cry about.
00:04:36Oh yeah, I had a little cry by myself in my room.
00:04:39A couple of times.
00:04:43Oh.
00:04:51Did you sleep?
00:04:52Yes, I had a good sleep actually, but.
00:04:54And you've woken up broken, mate?
00:04:56Broken.
00:04:57Oh, cracked.
00:04:58Maybe not broken.
00:05:01What's wrong, mate?
00:05:01I don't know where the orders ended up.
00:05:03I need base coat.
00:05:04I ordered three bags and just none of it ended up there.
00:05:07For plaster, are you only base coating now?
00:05:10So there's no more power tools from 3.30 this afternoon.
00:05:13So all the scaffolding has to be dropped down,
00:05:15but also all the high pages painters
00:05:18have to be done and going home.
00:05:19So as it stands at the moment,
00:05:21house one are fully painted.
00:05:23House two, they're gonna start painting
00:05:24in about half an hour.
00:05:26House three, they're fully painted.
00:05:27House four's done one coat of painting
00:05:30and about to do the second coat now.
00:05:31And house five, we haven't even started painting,
00:05:33they're still plastering.
00:05:35So the high pages painters may not even get
00:05:37to house five at this stage.
00:05:39Surely there's base coat.
00:05:40Yeah, it has to be.
00:05:42Someone must have it.
00:05:43Right now, I just, yeah, I feel pretty depressed.
00:05:45Just so many no-shows and stuff.
00:05:48It's, yeah, it's just disheartening.
00:05:50Do you have base coat?
00:05:51Base coat?
00:05:52Yeah, I should have base coat.
00:05:53You all right?
00:05:54Yeah.
00:05:55Yeah, let me find some.
00:05:57So for the second time this week,
00:05:59Christian has had to swallow his pride
00:06:02and accept help from the girls.
00:06:04Are you sure?
00:06:05About the plasterers?
00:06:06Yeah.
00:06:07Yeah, it's fine.
00:06:08Oh, you're a life-saving girl.
00:06:09Sometimes it's hard to ask for help like that.
00:06:11Was that hard?
00:06:12It was hard.
00:06:13Why?
00:06:15You just feel like you...
00:06:17Okay.
00:06:22Are you crying?
00:06:25It's stressful.
00:06:29Yeah, house one, we're happy enough to help us out.
00:06:32Again.
00:06:33Which is quite generous of house one,
00:06:35giving Christian's reluctance to help them
00:06:38back in their first week on the block.
00:06:40What's the go with plastering?
00:06:42Because Jessie and Paige are now gone,
00:06:44we said we'd love if Brendan could work with us.
00:06:47So like, one of the things, obviously, on the block
00:06:49is you sort of have to find all your trades.
00:06:51Now, are Jessie and Paige the contestants?
00:06:53They don't belong to the house.
00:06:55They belong to the contestants.
00:06:57Okay, so they were Jessie and Paige's.
00:06:59Jessie and Paige are no longer here.
00:07:02Coming in on the first day
00:07:02and then having your trades taken was not ideal.
00:07:08Especially when it's something like plastering.
00:07:10And it's like, I can't actually do that.
00:07:15You're getting the painters last.
00:07:17Yep.
00:07:18That means we're gonna come last this week.
00:07:23As far as I'm concerned,
00:07:24the painters have at least done one coat
00:07:27on everyone's house except us.
00:07:29Yes, the delays continue, even with the painter.
00:07:32Christian and Mimi have the smallest
00:07:34living and dining room space.
00:07:35But they're the only couple with the added obstacle
00:07:38of the space being upstairs.
00:07:41Should they manage to get paint on their walls,
00:07:43they plan on styling their room
00:07:45with two cabinets either side of their TV
00:07:48in front of a Lamin-X feature wall.
00:07:50They'll complete their space
00:07:51by tapping into some of their $100,000
00:07:54week one prize from Camerage
00:07:56to feature a plush lounge and a wool rug.
00:07:59Plus their dining room will consist
00:08:01of an eight seater walnut table
00:08:03underneath a boutique pendant.
00:08:06Oh man, I'm just over this.
00:08:09I'm over it.
00:08:1424 hours until tools down, what's left to do?
00:08:17A huge list.
00:08:18We've got scaff that needs to come down at 3.30.
00:08:21We're painting.
00:08:23He's got to do all our skirts.
00:08:25Corking.
00:08:26Pretty much all of the above.
00:08:28Yeah.
00:08:29And then we've got this epic deck ton
00:08:30with the fireplace and the TV.
00:08:33We've got a 3.5 metre Christian collar table
00:08:35that could sit eight to 10 people.
00:08:37I have a massive lounge.
00:08:39And down the room.
00:08:40It's taller than me.
00:08:41Yeah, I hope we make it to the end.
00:08:43Oh, and we want to light a fire.
00:08:46Before Carly can realise her inner fire bug,
00:08:49she'll need to get her massive deck ton in.
00:08:51And it's costing her a pretty penny.
00:08:54How's our budget looking, babe?
00:08:56Yeah, I spent 10 and a half grand.
00:08:59On stone, Mason.
00:09:01So if they don't love our fireplace this week...
00:09:05I'm in trouble.
00:09:05I'm gonna be pissed.
00:09:07She's big.
00:09:08Yeah, there might be a few boys slotting that in.
00:09:10Definitely.
00:09:18How do you feel about the stone going in?
00:09:20Yeah, look, the stone, no, I'm not nervous.
00:09:21The stone's exciting.
00:09:23More, more.
00:09:25Like, they're super experienced,
00:09:26so they'll just knock that straight out of the park.
00:09:29Why do you look nervous?
00:09:30I'm always nervous.
00:09:32Is there a spare sheet?
00:09:33Sure isn't.
00:09:37I'm sure it'll be fine.
00:09:39And this isn't the first time Carly and Brad
00:09:41have rolled the dice on expensive deck ton.
00:09:45One of your amazing deck ton tiles.
00:09:47Oh, I know.
00:09:48What happened?
00:09:50Apparently something was under it.
00:09:52Deck ton, I love it.
00:09:54That's 700 bucks in the bin.
00:09:56As Carly and Brad's very expensive moment of truth
00:09:59awaits them, over at house three, they're flying high.
00:10:03Come fly with me.
00:10:05You guys had a good night.
00:10:06We did.
00:10:07You got heaps done.
00:10:08Didn't have too much fun, mate.
00:10:10This is good.
00:10:11That looks awesome.
00:10:12It does, doesn't it?
00:10:13Yeah.
00:10:14We have got a massive space to fill.
00:10:16We've got a Colby dining table coming in.
00:10:20We've got a massive sanctuary couch
00:10:22and freedom coming in.
00:10:24We've got another nice armchair from Globe West
00:10:27with a nice open fireplace from Stoke.
00:10:30We've got a nice 83 inch LG TV
00:10:33and we've got a $20,000 piece of artwork from Artist Lane.
00:10:37We know we're close.
00:10:38Yeah, we're close.
00:10:40And things are also coming together over at house one,
00:10:43which is a welcome relief for the girls
00:10:45after a difficult Friday.
00:10:46Yeah, so we wanted to have some texture in our feature wall.
00:10:49So we thought Venetian plaster, we've always loved it.
00:10:52And Dan, our builder, had a contact.
00:10:54So we rang him, got all his insurances,
00:10:57but we didn't realize he was bringing another guy with him.
00:10:59The second guy was missing some sort of insurance.
00:11:03So yeah, it was a bit of a bummer.
00:11:04That left us with no Venetian plaster on Friday night?
00:11:08At 5.30.
00:11:09And so then I went around
00:11:10and asked Courtney and Graeme to help out.
00:11:14Our Venetian plaster person, the insurance wouldn't work.
00:11:16Do you have a contact for that we could try and ring?
00:11:18They're these guys.
00:11:20They do it?
00:11:21Your Venetian plaster?
00:11:22Yeah.
00:11:23If they're spending time here, we want them to Venetian.
00:11:27Five blocks Venetian?
00:11:28Probably, yeah.
00:11:29Yeah, yeah.
00:11:32All right.
00:11:33We'll just remember all this.
00:11:35Then good old foreman Dan sent me a contact of somebody
00:11:39and he was very keen to do it.
00:11:41How are you going?
00:11:42Yeah, good.
00:11:43Sorry for a bit of a muck around.
00:11:44No, it's all right.
00:11:46Let me have a look.
00:11:47You have to check with the sample, but...
00:11:49That one, Charmed White.
00:11:51Charmed White.
00:11:52Okay.
00:11:55With their plaster saga sorted,
00:11:57the main talking point of the girls living in dining room
00:12:00will be the Venetian plastering of the flue.
00:12:02They'll complete their space
00:12:04with a six person dining table, couch, coffee table,
00:12:07pendant lighting, artwork and fireplace.
00:12:10I've never like worked with someone
00:12:12to do like Venetian plaster or plastering like that before.
00:12:15And so I was like, I don't know how this is gonna turn out.
00:12:17And this could be a very expensive experience.
00:12:20I'm only picking from a sample like this big.
00:12:22It's hard to tell how that's gonna translate onto a wall.
00:12:26While Maddie and Charlotte are concerned
00:12:27with how the finished Venetian plastering
00:12:30may appear once dried,
00:12:32perhaps they should be worried about what Courtney is up to.
00:12:35You see who's next to you.
00:12:37So now like we do see the girls often
00:12:38because they're obviously our neighbour.
00:12:40They're obviously going to do a Venetian plaster.
00:12:43So yeah, I was at my cafe and spoke to Elias.
00:12:45We've got a back wall.
00:12:47Our plasters normally do it, but could you do it today?
00:12:50No, would it be for today?
00:12:52Or for tomorrow?
00:12:52Could you do it for tomorrow?
00:12:54Maybe not.
00:12:55Maybe between, if I see a wall, I'll check it for you.
00:12:59It's only up here anyway.
00:13:02I saw him and Courtney walking down the street
00:13:06to their house.
00:13:07Do you find it weird that they didn't come in and ask you
00:13:09or talk to you guys directly about it?
00:13:11Yeah, I did find it a little bit odd.
00:13:12When I saw them walking down the street,
00:13:14like Courtney and Elias together walking down the street,
00:13:17I was like, that's a bit odd.
00:13:18And like, no one mentioned it to me.
00:13:21Venetian plaster is two stages.
00:13:22Yeah.
00:13:23Which colour you like to do it?
00:13:25If I was more confrontational,
00:13:27I would have been like, what are you doing?
00:13:29But I'm not.
00:13:30And I was like, look,
00:13:31I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt.
00:13:33Maybe they know each other.
00:13:34Maybe he's going for a visit.
00:13:36But there's just no way that they're going to steal
00:13:38our like Venetian plaster.
00:13:40Let me deal with this, finish it.
00:13:42And I'll come to you and we'll talk.
00:13:45Easy.
00:13:46Sorry, what's your name again?
00:13:46Grant.
00:13:47Grant.
00:13:48No problem.
00:13:51And did the girls have any issue
00:13:53with you guys approaching Elias?
00:13:55No, we've helped.
00:13:56We've given them plaster.
00:13:57Girls didn't have an issue with it.
00:13:58We actually gave them our plasterers in the first week
00:14:01they were in the competition to help them get through.
00:14:03So, yeah.
00:14:09Why are we letting other teams borrow our plasterers, Court?
00:14:12No, we're waiting for the floras have kicked us out, so.
00:14:15We had six plasterers just basically on standby.
00:14:19We went into the room for like two seconds.
00:14:20They all went to one.
00:14:21Have we got all six of you?
00:14:23Well, we've got nothing else to do for now.
00:14:24Oh, boys, the legends are here.
00:14:28Can we just get the whole team back in there?
00:14:30Not how it works.
00:14:32Get your own plasterers.
00:14:33It's, you know, it's still a competition
00:14:35at the end of the day.
00:14:37Sure, they'd be fine with it.
00:14:39If not, bad luck, you don't own trades.
00:14:44What the f*** is wrong with you?
00:14:46What?
00:14:49How long, Elias, till this dries?
00:14:52How long? Another half hour?
00:14:54Yeah.
00:14:55Why?
00:14:56It's chicken.
00:14:57Yeah, yeah, half an hour.
00:14:58Yeah.
00:14:59Get your little picking fingers off.
00:14:59It's already dry.

00:47:00One thing they all really loved was the artwork.
00:47:02An absolutely stunning piece
00:47:04by the Cangelella Art Collective.
00:47:07We just like celebrate that for a minute.
00:47:10That is absolutely stunning and perfect for this space.
00:47:15And having the James Hardy oblique panel there
00:47:19really sort of sets it off,
00:47:20gives it the holiday beach vibe.
00:47:22Bet you're glad you won that
00:47:23from the block shop, boys, aren't you?
00:47:26Paper mache beast, mate.
00:47:27Yep.
00:47:28Shana thinks lowering the ceiling over the lounge area
00:47:31makes that area feel very inviting.
00:47:33What this does in here is it comes down on the rake
00:47:37and then makes you want to go into the lounge pit.
00:47:42It's just like this little sanctuary.
00:47:44But before they could get to the lounge room,
00:47:46Marty found the placement of the furniture a bit jarring.
00:47:50There is a bit of an optical illusion happening.
00:47:53There's gravity here.
00:47:55It feels quite heavy.
00:47:57Yeah, I feel like we're literally going on an angle.
00:48:00The running of the table this way,
00:48:02whilst when you walk in, it's like, oh, this makes sense.
00:48:05Because if it was spun the correct way,
00:48:07which I still think it needs to be spun,
00:48:10you would be able to walk around multiple parts of the room.
00:48:13Shana thinks the dining table could have been double the width
00:48:17because the room is so big.
00:48:19For me, that dining table is key
00:48:22to the rest of this room.
00:48:23I just feel like the dining table needs to anchor this space
00:48:28because I agree it does feel a little bit tilted.
00:48:31We were a bit dismissive of the kitchen,
00:48:33how vanilla it's functional, whatever.
00:48:35But this dining table really needs to have a different colour.
00:48:39You look at those beautiful stools, the leather stools.
00:48:42To me, the table needs to be that colour.
00:48:45Then they were onto the lighting plan.
00:48:47Much better in here for Darren.
00:48:49Having down lights and having wall sconces is great,
00:48:53but those refer to these.
00:48:58They make sense on this wall,
00:48:59but not on this wall because of the curtains.
00:49:02But then amazing painting has these lights,
00:49:05which fight with those ones above it.
00:49:07They kind of miss the mark.
00:49:09Then all three judges walked into your living room
00:49:12and they all took a seat by the fire.
00:49:14This is crawling.
00:49:16The judges felt that a real positive for this week
00:49:18is that despite the size of the room,
00:49:21the whole lounge space feels intimate, isn't it?
00:49:24And it's quite amazing to have an intimate feeling
00:49:26in such a vast amount of space.
00:49:28None of the other homes have this amount of square metreage
00:49:32within this living space.
00:49:34And being a lower ceiling,
00:49:36it has that anchoring feeling
00:49:38where I don't really want to leave.
00:49:41She's approving.
00:49:44You know what?
00:49:45I actually thought this was rendered.
00:49:48It's actually Cosentino stone.
00:49:51Shona really wants to commend you
00:49:53for the design intent of this space.
00:49:55I think they've done a beautiful job.
00:49:57She also noticed the flowers have changed
00:49:59on the kitchen bench.
00:50:01She can see that you're trying harder,
00:50:04but still thinks you can go further.
00:50:06It's just a bit basic for me.
00:50:09In real estate terms,
00:50:11Marty thinks...
00:50:12Whilst it's not high on the detail,
00:50:15it's not sophisticated in its styling,
00:50:18in terms of what the buyer actually gets,
00:50:21the bang for buck,
00:50:23this is incredible.
00:50:27Tilda loves this feedback.
00:50:29Loves that feedback.
00:50:31She loves it.
00:50:33We haven't worked out the ice cream flavour here yet.
00:50:35It's a paddle pop.
00:50:36It's not an ice cream.
00:50:37It's a filler pile and paddle pop.
00:50:40Just like your outfits.
00:50:41That's it, that's it, well done.
00:50:46Overall, the feedback was positive,
00:50:48but we tended to just hear all the negatives
00:50:50and things where we could have done better.
00:50:52There's a couple of small little errors, I suppose,
00:50:54we made in styling and positioning.
00:50:57But, yeah, we're really happy with it.
00:51:16OK, how's four going, Brad?
00:51:22Um, this week has had ups and downs.
00:51:25This week has been definitely testing.
00:51:31So we're thinking of doing, like,
00:51:33an integrated fireplace, sort of on this side.
00:51:36I've never had a fireplace,
00:51:38nor have I been anywhere with a fireplace.
00:51:41Neither have I.
00:51:44Oh, Christian, we love him.
00:51:46And, like, his stuff is incredible.
00:51:49See, he gets my black, he gets it.
00:51:53What is this? It's plywood.
00:51:55Yes, so I'm going to do another couple of coats on it
00:51:58and we're leaving it as is.
00:52:00Is it high-end enough?
00:52:02Is it going to look a bit cheaper option?
00:52:05I think a ten will be a very good stretch
00:52:09and hopefully we can win.
00:52:12Top five.
00:52:29Chayna walked into your living and dining room
00:52:32and did something she has never done before.
00:52:35Whoa, whoa, whoa!
00:52:37I think I need to sing.
00:52:39It's unbelievable.
00:52:41This room sings.
00:52:43It does feel like an opera house in there, doesn't it?
00:52:45It's a lot of space, mate.
00:52:47This is 75 square metres,
00:52:49so you could fit a two-bedroom apartment,
00:52:52maybe a three-bedroom apartment in this.
00:52:55Mm-hm.
00:52:56And Marty said to Darren...
00:52:58Darren, look, not a single downlight in sight.
00:53:01Yes!
00:53:02This is actually the lighting layout
00:53:04that I've been hoping to see all day.
00:53:06These wall sconces are perfect.
00:53:08There's a strip light through here.
00:53:10Fantastic.
00:53:11Even this pendant, I mean, how interesting.
00:53:13It just adds that different dimension to the room.
00:53:16And that fan...
00:53:18I'm a fan.
00:53:19Big-ass, baby.
00:53:20That's a big-ass fan.
00:53:23In the first week, Chayna was a big critic
00:53:25of your colour palette and style.
00:53:27Remember the old Art Deco days?
00:53:29Mm-hm.
00:53:30Well, not today.
00:53:31Each angle you look at, you go,
00:53:33beautiful, beautiful vignette,
00:53:35but it just works perfectly with that kitchen.
00:53:37And then, Darren, there's never a mirror you don't love.
00:53:40Like, this custom Christian Cole mirror they got made,
00:53:43like, hello!
00:53:45Stunning.
00:53:46The Steff Brook artworks go so well
00:53:48with the chairs in the dining room.
00:53:51The compliments kept on coming.
00:53:53Marty thinks the symmetry of the room is spectacular.
00:53:56The decktone around the fireplace is superb.
00:53:59Well worth the cost of putting that into mirror the kitchen.
00:54:03Marty also likes the way you have stained the ply.
00:54:06Unlike what we saw last week,
00:54:08where they painted the timber in the bathroom,
00:54:10this is actually doing the room justice.
00:54:12It just balances out the whole room.
00:54:14Ah, we'll ring Shelley Craft right now, will we?
00:54:17Marty likes it.
00:54:18Please do.
00:54:19She said it was going to let you down.
00:54:21No, she did not like it one bit.
00:54:23For me, the difference here compared to House 3,
00:54:26what we're seeing, this dining table
00:54:29anchors the kitchen and the lounge.
00:54:32I've got to touch this beautiful table,
00:54:35just feeling the grain coming through.
00:54:37This is magnificent.
00:54:38This is what happens when you take the time
00:54:41to order a custom table.
00:54:43Thanks to Christian Cole, what a great dining table it is too.
00:54:47One little thing that I can fault.
00:54:49I know what you're going to say.
00:54:50One thing.
00:54:51The fact that they've put chairs here at the end of the table,
00:54:55it demonstrates beautifully
00:54:56that this is a 10-seater dining table,
00:54:58but it also demonstrates perfectly
00:54:59that that rug isn't quite big enough.
00:55:01Yeah, we'll have to find a big one, definitely.
00:55:03It's pretty big already.
00:55:04Custom rug.
00:55:05This is an expansive space with really high ceilings,
00:55:09and it's chilly outside, and I am hot.
00:55:13Yeah.
00:55:14That fireplace is working overtime.
00:55:16That Stoke fireplace really does the job it's designed to do.
00:55:20The judges moved into the lounge room
00:55:22and took a seat on your very comfortable sofa.
00:55:26I just want to say Tom Ford is very comfortable in this space.
00:55:33Oh, you're welcome.
00:55:35Yeah, thanks, Scotty.
00:55:36I gave you that book.
00:55:38The palette is really simple.
00:55:40Black, green, oak, the end.
00:55:43Shona loves the home pro curtains you chose.
00:55:45Not so much sheers, but more of a crushed linen.
00:55:49Oh, my God.
00:55:51I love them so much.
00:55:52So beautiful, and again, just adds that softness
00:55:56to this really strong, simple palette.
00:55:59Marty thinks that the buyers will know
00:56:01they have entered another level of sophistication in this house.
00:56:06So when buyers come to this home,
00:56:08they're looking at something
00:56:09that none of the other contestants are offering.
00:56:11It has that darker tone,
00:56:12and if they have to have this colour palette,
00:56:14there isn't another option on this series.
00:56:17So they're playing a very strategic card,
00:56:19which I think could pay them dividends.
00:56:22Quite frankly, this has been my favourite room
00:56:24of the block this season.
00:56:26So what's your ice cream flavour, Kylie and Brad?
00:56:30Mint chocolate.
00:56:31Dark would stall me, surely.
00:56:33The judges think it's licorice.
00:56:35Who knew that licorice ice cream could be this delicious?
00:56:40I love licorice.
00:56:41I love it.
00:56:42Not everyone's a cup of tea,
00:56:43but who loves licorice loves licorice.
00:56:46That's it. Well done.
00:56:47Well done, guys.
00:56:51The whole time I was questioning it.
00:56:53Yeah, look, I guess we're always going for dark and moody,
00:56:57and for someone like Darren to say those kind of things about it,
00:57:00I think it's really, it's really nice.
00:57:03Well, let's say what flavour we're tasting in House 5.
00:57:06Yeah, well...
00:57:07Licorice is hard to beat.
00:57:20Okay, House 5.
00:57:22Christian and Mimi.
00:57:28This week was long.
00:57:30This week was long.
00:57:32That's what I said.
00:57:34Living in Dying Room is what it is now called.
00:57:41I don't want to be here.
00:57:44I don't know, I feel like I just don't trust my styling anymore.
00:57:49Because, like the judges.
00:57:51I really dislike it.
00:57:53It makes the room imbalanced.
00:57:55I no longer know what to do.
00:58:00So finding a plaster has been our biggest issue on the block.
00:58:03We had a crew that said they were coming two, three days ago,
00:58:07and they just haven't responded to any messages,
00:58:09answered any phone calls.
00:58:10I think we're going to be able to get maybe three or four guys for you tomorrow.
00:58:13Really? Yeah.
00:58:14Yeah.
00:58:15Just very grateful after Maddie and Charlotte gave us the plasters for tomorrow.
00:58:21So I just got my Cambridge rendered.
00:58:23Wow, that's so good.
00:58:25So, so far everything that I've chosen is 75 grams.
00:58:28Yeah, beautiful.
00:58:30Where do I put the fireplace now?
00:58:32Oh no.
00:58:34I hope the judges go in there with the sun shining through,
00:58:39and they just see how amazing of a space that we do have up there.
00:58:43I hope so.
00:58:55Walking into your living and dining room, Maddie said...
00:59:00Well, this is a little bit smaller than what we've come from.
00:59:05Not as much space.
00:59:07It's a little bit dark in here. Hang on a second.
00:59:09Alexa, open blinds.
00:59:14Light from the top story location came flooding into the room.
00:59:18Stunning.
00:59:19Shona noted the beautiful view and said that's got great buyer appeal.
00:59:26That is one of the most amazing features of this property.
00:59:29These windows and the fact they are the only one with a view of any description.
00:59:33And that will be the balance with the buyers.
00:59:35Having size over view and being the only one that gives you that view
00:59:41will retain a portion of the market.
00:59:44Darren loves the dining table.
00:59:46It's beautifully matched to the kitchen.
00:59:48I think those tones of walnut are really, really nicely matched.
00:59:53I mean, it's got a really soft sort of pink to it,
00:59:56which works beautifully with these chairs as well.
00:59:58I think it's a really lovely match.
01:00:01Shona didn't love the table.
01:00:05I find this table a barrier.
01:00:07You're walking in here and you're going straight into the dining table.
01:00:10You're not going into a walkway.
01:00:12To me, because of the size of the place,
01:00:14I would have preferred a round table
01:00:17and I would have preferred chairs without arms
01:00:19because it would feel lighter.
01:00:21Marty was actually fine with the table and chairs.
01:00:24His concerns was with the lounge area.
01:00:27For me, it's the space that's the concern
01:00:30and this area here as a primary living zone.
01:00:34This is the part that's feeling a little bit squashed,
01:00:37a little bit level one or two apartment in town.
01:00:41I don't feel like I am down the beach or at a holiday home.
01:00:45So you do have to think of the market you are appealing to.
01:00:49Shona pointed out the whole room has been orientated to the television.
01:00:54As much as we love Disney Plus and as much as we love our TV,
01:00:58I am not coming to the beach for my whole lounge room
01:01:01to be built around a TV.
01:01:03What's missing?
01:01:05Fireplace. Right.
01:01:07And that feels like a mistake,
01:01:09considering that it feels like there is room for one.
01:01:12Christian and Mimi have won more money than anybody here on the block.
01:01:16This doesn't say expensive to me.
01:01:18This room should have elevated the luxury.
01:01:20She said if the kitchen is the heart of the home,
01:01:23then living and dining is the soul.
01:01:26This doesn't have it.
01:01:29In property, when you have a smaller space,
01:01:32you need to balance that by upping the luxury and the materiality.
01:01:36There is no sophistication within this space whatsoever.
01:01:40They've missed out on that opportunity to create a marketing hook.
01:01:43There was the TV, the fireplace, the couch along here.
01:01:47You're sitting, watching fire-burning views, ocean, palm tree conversations.
01:01:52Absolutely.
01:01:53They've just gone, all right, you know what?
01:01:55Let's take the house that's got the best outlook
01:01:57and just turn everyone's back to look at that TV.
01:02:00Mm-hmm.
01:02:01It's a fumble.
01:02:02If he was judging on execution only, it would be a 10 out of 10 for him.
01:02:07But he doesn't think this room has the wow factor
01:02:10he's seen in some other houses today.
01:02:15Darren, however, was on your side today, Christian and Mimi.
01:02:18I don't agree with either of you.
01:02:19That's okay. You're elastic.
01:02:21Well, let's take a seat.
01:02:22I want to find out what you love about this room.
01:02:24It's nicely proportioned.
01:02:26I think it has a great outlook.
01:02:28I think it would function really beautifully for a holiday home.
01:02:32I think the connection to that big outdoor space
01:02:34means that you've got ample living.
01:02:36He sees it as a very consistent room with the rest of your house
01:02:41and thinks that everything in your home
01:02:44is always presented at a very high level.
01:02:47Shona did pick out ice cream flavours for your room.
01:02:51Kiwi lime and mango sorbet.
01:02:54Whoa, okay.
01:02:55Better than vanilla.
01:02:57I'm guessing it's the artwork that led her to that.
01:03:00But the judges weren't really feeling like staying for ice cream this afternoon.
01:03:04That's it.
01:03:07Welcome back to the block.
01:03:09With Matilda off to bed,
01:03:11let's find out who will take living and dining room week.
01:03:14Okay.
01:03:15Matilda's going to bed. That's good.
01:03:17I think we need to get a big, loud clap out of our system.
01:03:19Yeah, yeah.
01:03:21Thanks, Scotty.
01:03:22Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:03:23Beautiful.
01:03:35Yeah, beautiful.
01:03:36Strong.
01:03:37Here we go.
01:03:38Okay, Darren Palmer, Maddie and Charlotte.
01:03:43It's a really lovely layered textured palette.
01:03:45I would like a little more drama.
01:03:51What's the plan?
01:03:52Courtney and Grumpy.
01:03:55This feels absolutely consistent.
01:03:57Aesthetically, I love every decision you make.
01:04:01Ricky and Hayden.
01:04:03It's intimate, and it's quite amazing to have an intimate feeling
01:04:06in such a vast amount of space.
01:04:12Colin and Brett.
01:04:13This is the lighting layout that I've been hoping to see all day.
01:04:17These wall sconces are perfect.
01:04:19The strip light, fantastic.
01:04:31This is a mimic.
01:04:32It's nicely proportioned.
01:04:34I think it has a great outlook.
01:04:36It would function really beautifully for a holiday home.
01:04:43All right, pretty good scores.
01:04:48Can't use this pigment.
01:04:49Maddie Fox.
01:04:50Maddie and Charlotte.
01:04:52Not doing much wrong isn't a bad outcome.
01:04:55Whilst it isn't dramatic, it is sophisticated,
01:04:58it is inviting, it is homely.
01:05:09Courtney and Grumpy.
01:05:11How they end up having a fireplace that is in possibly
01:05:14the worst position within a room of this size.
01:05:22Ricky and Hayden.
01:05:24None of the other homes have this amount of square metre
01:05:27within this living space.
01:05:28I don't really want to leave.
01:05:34Colin and Brett.
01:05:36Having this blend of dark and light is so marketable
01:05:39and different from every other house.
01:05:47I'm out of here.
01:05:49Look out.
01:05:54Cher and Mimi.
01:05:56When you have a smaller space,
01:05:58you need to balance that by upping the luxury.
01:06:00There is no sophistication whatsoever.
01:06:03For me, it's probably been the biggest letdown of the day.
01:06:18Courtney and Grumpy, Phil's here.
01:06:21Would you like to use him?
01:06:23No.
01:06:24No, not this week, mate.
01:06:26Not tonight?
01:06:27Hold on to Little Penguin.
01:06:29OK.
01:06:32Shona Bliss.
01:06:33Maddy and Charlotte.
01:06:34I really feel the styling has completely let them down.
01:06:38Courtney and Grumpy.
01:06:40I love that we do have the naturals and the neutrals
01:06:44with a little bit of punch.
01:06:46Ricky and Hayden.
01:06:48What this does in here is it comes down on the rake
01:06:52and then makes you want to go into the lounge pit.
01:06:57It's just like this little sanctuary.
01:07:02Brad.
