In this winter special, Ferne and Rory visit Ella and meet her siberian huskies. Together, they take some of the dogs for a long walk, brush their coats and give them plenty of food and water. Ella then teaches Ferne and Rory how to ride the rigs pulled by the huskies, and afterwards they join some friends for a hot chocolate by the fire!

00:00Hiya, I'm Fern. And I'm Rory.
00:05Welcome to the Cairngorm Mountains in the Highlands of Scotland for the My Pet and Me
00:09Winter Special. I love winter, everything looks so different.
00:13The thing I love most about winter is when it snows and there is plenty of it all the
00:17way up here. And it's great to be able to get nice and cosy with hats, gloves and scarves
00:22in the cold weather. I've been thinking, how about we both go visit a pet today as a special
00:26winter treat. Oh, that sounds awesome, Fern.
00:29The ones I have in mind don't need hats or scarves because they have lots of lovely fur
00:33to keep them nice and warm. Would you like to come with us?
00:36Come on.
00:38My pets, my pets and me. My pets, my pets and me.
00:44Down every street are pets to meet. Some big, some small, some skinny, some furry.
00:52Some keep very still, some are always in a hurry. Some have four paws, some have sharp claws.
01:00Some bark, some move, some squawk, some cock-a-doodle-doo.
01:07My pets, my pets and me. My pets, my pets and me.
01:13My pets, my pets and me. My pets, my pets and me.
01:19We're at Lough Morlach in the Highlands of Scotland to meet Ella and her very special dog.
01:26This is so exciting. Let's go.
01:35Hiya. You must be Ella. Lovely to meet you.
01:39Hi, Fern. Hi, Rory.
01:41And you must be Dad. Hi.
01:43Hi, guys.
01:44Hiya. And who are these guys?
01:46Spirit and Bracken.
01:48Oh, they are gorgeous. What a lovely wee puppy.
01:51And look at Spirit. Amazing eyes. What sort of dog is he?
01:55Siberian Husky.
01:56Oh, I thought so. I have never met a husky before.
01:59He is beautiful, but he is not your only Siberian Husky, is he?
02:03No.
02:04How many do you have?
02:05Twelve.
02:06Twelve?
02:07Wow.
02:08Whoa. Can't wait to meet them all.
02:11Siberian Husky dogs originally come from an area in Russia called Siberia,
02:16which is a long way from the Scottish Highlands.
02:18Siberia is known for having very cold winters and wet summers,
02:22so husky dogs are well suited to that climate.
02:25What is the best thing about having Siberian Huskies?
02:28Cuddling them.
02:30Oh, that's lovely, isn't it?
02:33Ella, lots of people have got dogs, but not everyone has loads like you.
02:37Why do you have so many?
02:39Because we run them.
02:41Oh, you run them. You race them on sleds?
02:43Yeah.
02:44That's exciting.
02:45Sled dogs are dogs that are bred to pull sleds or sleighs,
02:48usually in Arctic areas that have lots of snow.
02:51They would move important supplies from place to place,
02:54especially in areas that are hard to reach. Very clever.
02:58So, what do you do if there is no snow?
03:00Because a sled doesn't work with no snow.
03:03We use rigs.
03:05Rigs?
03:06So, a rig is like a sled but with wheels?
03:09Yes.
03:10They sound like lots of fun.
03:12Do you think we'll get to have a go on one later?
03:14Yes.
03:15Oh, man. I'm really looking forward to that,
03:18but first I think we should go and meet the other huskies.
03:20Before we go and meet the rest of the gang,
03:22can you give us some fun facts about huskies?
03:24Of course. I'd love to.
03:25Let's go.
03:28One.
03:29Siberian husky dogs are powerful, athletic, energetic
03:34and have great stamina.
03:37Two.
03:38They range from black to pure white in colour,
03:41with coloured markings on the body that include reds and copper.
03:46Three.
03:47Huskies also have almond-shaped eyes,
03:50and this can help them to keep the snow out when they squint.
