00:00John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics on Tuesday for
00:07discoveries and inventions that formed the building blocks of machine learning and artificial
00:12intelligence. Hinton is a computer scientist known as the godfather of AI. He works at
00:19the University of Toronto, while Hopfield's research is carried out at Princeton University.
00:25The award was given by the Secretary-General of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences
00:30in Stockholm. In his acceptance, Hinton described his vision for the future of AI.
00:36I think it will have a huge influence. It will be comparable with the industrial revolution.
00:41But instead of exceeding people in physical strength, it's going to exceed people in intellectual
00:47ability.
00:49The physics prize carries a cash award equivalent to around one million euros. Nobel announcements
00:55continue with the chemistry prize on Wednesday and literature on Thursday. The Nobel Peace
01:00Prize will be announced on Friday.
