00:00The end of one NFL week means an update on the futures for the rest of the National Football

00:10We look at the MVP odds at the conclusion of week number five, and we scratch our heads

00:18Listen, I love the Kansas City Chiefs.
00:21They should be the AFC title favorites.
00:23They should reach a third consecutive Super Bowl.
00:26But Patrick Mahomes should not be the NFL MVP favorite.
00:31Don't listen to me.
00:32Listen to Patrick himself, who has said time and again over the last few weeks that he
00:38is not playing up to the caliber that he needs to or expects.
00:43He did not throw a touchdown last night.
00:45He should have.
00:46Juju Smith-Schuster kind of dropped one that popped up in the air and led to an interception
00:51for the big man, Colin Saunders.
00:53So that's not really on Mahomes, who did throw for more than 330 and was dicing up
00:58New Orleans secondary on Monday night.
01:02But overall, the stats still look like this.
01:05Six touchdowns to six interceptions.
01:08If you want to make him one of the favorites because nobody has taken the front running
01:13seat, fine.
01:15But at plus 230, as compared to everybody else at six to one or greater, what are we
01:20doing?
01:21I mean, Joe Jackson has the numbers to back it up, but I think it's voter fatigue.
01:26Shouldn't there also be voter fatigue with another guy in Mahomes that has won two MVP
01:31awards in the last six seasons?
01:32I mean, I guess I really shouldn't care that much.
01:35Mahomes is leading the Chiefs to a perfect five and 0 start.
01:38But still, Joe, it just kind of boggles the mind.
01:41Well, and I think it really has more to do, Ben, with the books protecting themselves
01:48here in week five.
01:49Are they really going to give you an opportunity to get Mahomes at six to one, seven to one
01:55in week five and six right now?
01:58And then all of a sudden he rattles off unbelievable numbers down the strats and wins every game.
02:04They're just not going to expose themselves to give you or us an opportunity to take them.
02:09And anything more than what that number is right now, the question is, how much faith
02:14do we have in anybody else?
02:16Let's say by week 13, Ben, having racked up enough quality numbers and stats and perception
02:24that they are better than Mahomes and deserve, because let's say they're undefeated.
02:29Let's say they're 13 and 0 heading into week 14.
02:33What would his number be then?
02:35So I think I think they're just protecting themselves at this point.
