The new Council of the Nations and Regions is aimed at improving communication with all parts of the United Kingdom, which has been very much welcomed by many, but others question why the supposed direct link between the First Minister and Prime Minister hasn’t come as promised.

00:00The Council of Nations and Regions was part of the Labour Party's manifesto and was founded
00:06just after the general election to help form better communication between all parts of
00:10the United Kingdom. But some see it as an extra layer of communication when it seems
00:15promised by the Welsh and British Labour governments that there would be a direct link between
00:19the two.
00:20I think it's really wonderful that we will be having our first meeting of the Nations
00:27and Regions Council on Friday, where of course we will have the leaders of the nations of
00:36the United Kingdom coming together, including the leader of Scotland, SNP member, who is
00:46I'm sure as delighted as I am that we will have an opportunity to discuss how we can
00:52work together for the benefit of our nations and where that makes sense.
00:57The relationship between the Welsh and British governments has been a big topic of conversation
01:00this Senate term and it seems set to continue, with Rhiannap Yorwerth pointing at broken
01:05promises from Labour, but Eluned Morgan seems tired of hearing the Prime Minister's name
01:10coming up quite so much.
01:12When Labour proclaimed change, little did we think that what it meant in reality was
01:19that the First Minister would have to be taking her orders from someone now unwanted by the
01:25Prime Minister as his Chief of Staff and unelected by the public.
01:30So how did the First Minister allow herself to be relegated to third in Labour's pecking
01:36order behind Sue Gray and Jo Stevens?
01:39I think I just explained that I'm meeting the First Minister on Friday.
01:44I'm going to be having a one-to-one meeting with the Prime Minister, Keir Starmer.
01:50I think the first time I've said this today is the 27th time he's mentioned his name
01:56in the three weeks we've been meeting since the summer.
