Members of the public give their opinions on when to put the heating on.

00:00I've got one of my little storage heaters on because you need it to dry everything but
00:04that's just to keep the damp off.
00:06I don't think it's ever too early to put the heating on because I'm always very cold but
00:11I understand the price of electricity is ridiculous so I now just get another jumper on so probably
00:20the heating on end of November.
00:24It's turned off now because I can't afford it to heat all the rooms, that's the saying.
00:30So I think it might go on end of November, beginning of December.
00:40Oh yes, yes my partner, you know, what have you got the heating on for because I'm cold?
00:45And he says go and put another jumper on then.
00:48If my husband were still alive he would have to have the heating on all the time and what
00:53else to say, you know, since he died I've cut down on the bills.
01:00Well I have learned after 43 years of marriage that my wife and I have different temperature
01:05controls and I fight to keep the heating off and encourage her to put thicker sweaters
01:10on but I suspect if it gets chilly the heating will go on and I will just succumb to her
01:16wishes.
01:17I'm in the unfortunate position that it's not going to affect me hugely but I think
01:22if you're asking for a political answer what the government is proposing to do to the winter
01:27fuel allowance to pensioners is absolutely outrageous.
01:32We do have a fight in our house.
01:35I want to put the heating on but my wife doesn't want to put the heating on.
01:39It has gone on recently but the energy cap's gone up.
01:45Yesterday it went up 10%.
01:47It's not going to affect me really but I do feel sorry for the people that can't afford
01:52the energy.
01:53It is way too expensive.
01:59I always think October's the line.
02:01If you go before October you've gone too soon but there's always a debate in our house about
02:05when's too early.
02:06Hopefully not in September but October I think's the time to put it on.
02:17I'm not going to lie, I'm the coldest person alive so the heating has been on in September
02:21but normally it is October but yeah.
02:27No.
02:29Yes.
02:31Just once.
02:33Obviously we've gone through a cost of living crisis.
02:35Things are a lot more expensive.
02:36Still in it.
02:37Would that prevent you from putting your heating on now?
02:40No.
02:41What prompted you to do that?
02:44Rain.
02:45Yeah.
02:46We both work outside so we got really wet and we wanted warming up when we got home
02:50so we just put the heating on for a little bit.
02:52Just a couple of hours.
02:54Well enough heat keeps you, you know what I mean?
02:56Keeps you healthier than cold, that's for sure.
