00:00The word wadud comes from the word wud and it means to love and to be affectionate.
00:09In Arabic there are many words that describe the concept of love.
00:13The word hub and wud are just two examples of expressing love, but there is a delicate
00:20difference between the two.
00:21Hub is the inner feeling of love for someone in your heart, whereas wud is a higher degree
00:27than hub.
00:28It is an intense love expressed in actions and in conduct.
00:33In other words, if you love someone, your inner feelings towards them are called hub,
00:39i.e. love that exists in your heart.
00:42But when you translate such love into action by smiling at them, buying them gifts and
00:48helping them, this would be wud.
00:50So wadud means a high degree of love translated into action.
00:55So when we say Allah is al wadud, it means his love is intense and continuous and translates
01:04into blessings, favours, mercy, guidance and forgiveness that Allah has granted us
01:10with.
01:11Al wadud is loving towards the believers and caring towards them even when they disobey
01:16him.
01:17He especially loves the righteous servants and those who obey him.
01:21He is also the one who is worthy of being loved and he is the source of all love and
01:27kindness.
01:28How should we live by this name?
01:301.
01:31The Holy Prophet has guided hundreds of millions of people and the people at his time offered
01:37him financial needs to help him in his mission, but never did he take anything.
01:43Then Allah revealed this verse to the Prophet.
01:46Say, I do not ask of you any reward for it, except muwadda for my new relatives.
01:54The word muwadda also comes from the root word wud.
01:59Muwadda is a high degree of love which is followed by action and new relatives refer
02:05to the Ahlul Bayt alayhi musalam.
02:08So in this verse the Prophet has asked us for one thing, muwadda for his Ahlul Bayt.
02:15This high degree of love has to be with action.
02:19So if we claim to love and follow the Prophet, we must also follow the footsteps of his Ahlul
02:25Bayt.
02:262.
02:27Imam Ali alayhi salam is reported to have said, three things bring about love, good
02:32character, kindness and humbleness.
02:36If you apply these three things Allah will love you and you will find the lovers of Allah
02:41will also love you.
