As Hurricane Milton approaches Florida’s coast, The Florida Aquarium in Tampa relocated its beloved African penguins to safety.
On Tuesday (08/10), the aquarium crews helped nine penguins move from their habitat on the first floor to higher, safer ground.
This precautionary step is essential to protect the animals from the possibility of severe flooding

00:00Earlier today, we started moving some of our animals like our African penguins and a few others up to higher ground to make sure they are safe throughout the storm.
00:10We have nine African penguins and they are on our first floor in their home.
00:15But we do have a temporary home built for them and they moved up to the second floor, well above any type of tidal surge that might affect the building.
00:23And then we have several animals around the building that are on the ground floor that have all moved to second floor locations and safe locations.
00:31We plan for things like this so they have nice homes even though they may be a little temporary.
