00:00Nigeria Police Force, NPF has approved the sum of 10 million naira for the families of
00:06five policemen who died in a motor accident in Kano State while returning from Edo State
00:11after the September 21, 2024 governorship election in the state.
00:17IJP in a new statement issued few hours ago by the first police relations officer,
00:23Olumiwa Adejebi, also approved the sum of 2 million naira for those still in the hospital
00:28and 500,000 naira for eight of the policemen who have been discharged from the hospital
00:34after the accident. IJP in the statement did not state if the sum amount is for each of
00:40the beneficiary or the sum total for the personnel involved in the accident.
00:45It would be recalled that on September 24, 22,024, group of policemen who were among
00:53the security operatives deployed for Edo governorship election were involved in
00:57fatal motor accident which some eyewitnesses said occurred as a result of health on collision
01:03with another vehicle. On Thursday, 26th of September, 2024, the Commissioner of Police,
01:11Kano State Command, C.P. Salman Dogo-Gaba, visited the police personnel involved in the
01:18tragic motor vehicle accident admitted at Bichi General Hospital, Kano State.
01:24The Commissioner of Police emphasized that the safety and well-being of the officers are
01:29paramount. An investigation is underway to determine the accident's cause, and measures
01:35will be taken to prevent similar incidents. The command appreciates the overwhelming support
01:41from individuals, stakeholders, and organizations. Their kind words, prayers, and gestures have
01:48brought comfort to the affected families and the entire police community. IJP in a statement
01:55on Wednesday said the force is committed to the well-being of its personnel. The statement reads
02:01thus, The Inspector General of Police, IJP Kayode Adeolu Egbitokun PhD, NPM, has approved the
02:10immediate payment of relief funds to the families of officers that were involved in a fatal motor
02:15accident on the 24th of September 2024 while returning from the Edo election special duty to
02:22Kano State Command. The accident which occurred along the Zaria-Kano Expressway, Kafikura,
02:30had resulted in the loss of five officers, with 11 hospitalized after the accident,
02:35and individuals have been successfully discharged from the hospital after receiving medical attention,
02:41while three others are still undergoing treatment. In response to this tragic event,
02:47the Inspector General of Police has taken decisive actions to provide support to those affected
02:53by approving the compensatory payment of 10 million naira, 10 million nairas, to the families of the
02:59deceased, acknowledging their profound loss and providing assistance as they navigate this
03:04challenging period. The IJP has also approved the payment of 2 million naira, 2 million nairas,
03:11to those still receiving treatment, ensuring they receive the necessary medical support as
03:16they recuperate and the sum of 500,000 naira, 500,000 nairas, to those who have been discharged
03:22after treatment. The IJP reaffirms the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to supporting officers
03:29and men of the force and their families during trying times.
03:33The IJP once again expresses his deepest condolences to all the families of the
03:38deceased and prays for the quick recovery of those still receiving medical care.
