00:37The press release reads thus, The passionate Inspector General of Police, IJP Kayode Adeolu
00:43Egbetokun has donated relief funds to the families of 16 officers that were involved
00:50in a fatal motor accident on 24 September 2024 while returning from the Edo election
00:56special duty to Kano State Command.
01:00The accident which occurred along the Zaria-Kano Expressway, Kafikura, resulted in the unfortunate
01:07loss of five officers, with 11 hospitalised after the accident, and individuals have been
01:13successfully discharged from the hospital after receiving medical attention, while three
01:18others are still undergoing treatment.
01:21In a decisive response to this tragic event, the Inspector General of Police donated the
01:26compensatory payment of 10 million naira, 10 million nairas, each to the families of
01:31the five deceased officers, 2 million naira, 2 million nairas, each to those still receiving
01:37treatment and the sum of 500,000 naira, 500,000 nairas, each to those who have been discharged
01:44after treatment, bringing the total payment to the sum of 60 million naira, 60 million
01:49nairas.
01:51The IJP has ordered the Police Insurance Unit and the Police Account and Budget Department
01:56to expedite the preparation of life insurance benefits for the deceased officers, as well
02:01as the welfare scheme benefits for other affected officers, and to ensure that payments are
02:07made without delay, as this donation is exclusive of their statutory benefits from the Nigeria
02:12Police Force.
02:14The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of IJP Egbetokun, remains committed to the
02:20welfare of its personnel, as the IJP reaffirms the commitment to supporting officers and
02:26men of the force and their families during trying times.
02:30These efforts aim to ensure the dignity and well-being of officers, further enhancing
02:35their capacity for effective service delivery.
02:39The IJP once again expresses his deepest condolences to all the families of the deceased and prays
02:45for the quick recovery of those still receiving medical care.
02:49We had reported that the Nigeria Police Force, NPF has approved the sum of 10 million naira
02:55for the families of five policemen who died in a motor accident in Kano State while returning
03:01from Edo State after the September 21, 2024 governorship election in the state.
03:07IJP in a news statement issued few hours ago by the first police relations officer, Olumiwa
03:14Adejebi, also approved the sum of 2 million naira for those still in the hospital and
03:19500,000 naira for eight of the policemen who have been discharged from the hospital after
03:25the accident.
03:26IJP in the statement did not state if the sum amount is for each of the beneficiary
03:32or the sum total for the personnel involved in the accident.
03:36It would be recalled that on September 24, 22,024, group of policemen who were among
03:43the security operatives deployed for Edo governorship election were involved in fatal motor accident
03:49which some eyewitnesses said occurred as a result of held on collision with another
03:55vehicle.
03:56On Thursday, 26th of September, 2024, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command,
04:04CP Salman Dogo Gaba, visited the police personnel involved in the tragic motor vehicle accident
04:10admitted at Bichi.
04:12General Hospital, Kano State, the Commissioner of Police emphasized that the safety and well-being
04:19of the officers are paramount.
04:22An investigation is underway to determine the accident's cause, and measures will be
04:26taken to prevent similar incidents.
04:30The command appreciates the overwhelming support from individuals, stakeholders, and organizations.
04:37Their kind words, prayers, and gestures have brought comfort to the affected families and
04:42the entire police community.
04:45IJP in a statement on Wednesday said the force is committed to the well-being of its personnel.
04:52The statement reads thus, The Inspector General of Police, IJP Kaide Adeolu Egbitokun PhD,
04:59NPM, has approved the immediate payment of relief funds to the families of officers that
05:05were involved in a fatal motor accident on 24 September, 2024 while returning from the
05:11Edo Election Special Duty to Kano State Command.
05:16The accident which occurred along the Zaria-Kano Expressway, Kafikura, had resulted in the
05:22loss of five officers, with eleven hospitalized after the accident, and individuals have been
05:28successfully discharged from the hospital after receiving medical attention, while three
05:33others are still undergoing treatment.
05:36In response to this tragic event, the Inspector General of Police has taken decisive actions
05:42to provide support to those affected, by approving the compensatory payment of N10,000,000 to
05:49the families of the deceased, acknowledging their profound loss and providing assistance
05:54as they navigate this challenging period.
05:57The IJP has also approved the payment of N2,000,000 to those still receiving treatment ensuring
06:05they receive the necessary medical support at the recuperate and the sum of N500,000
06:12to those who have been discharged after treatment.
06:15The IJP reaffirms the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to supporting officers and men
06:21of the force and their families during trying times.
06:25The IJP once again expresses his deepest condolences to all the families of the deceased and prays
06:31for the quick recovery of those still receiving medical care.
