Mike Hilton Expects to Improve Moving Forward, Admits Bengals Defense is Playing Poorly
Transcript
00:00Malik neighbors is obviously the the main name there, but what it what are you guys seeing from the Giants that they do Rob?
00:07I think I'm playing this comedy football
00:10Neighbors didn't play last week and they put up 29 points
00:12So, you know, they're kind of finding their rhythm offensively and it's gonna be a good challenge for us
00:18The defense over the last couple days. Yeah, I mean we gotta get off the field
00:22Obviously our offense is rolling. Obviously Joe's playing like the best quarterback in all the football
00:27So as the defense we got to give him as many possessions as possible
00:30It's a matter of pride at this point knowing how well y'all how much pride y'all take on the defense the guys were here
00:36For sure, we got to hold up our end of the bargain
00:39Like I said office is rolling, but we have to do our part, you know
00:41I'll play here a play there our record could be four and one but we're one in four and we got to climb out this
00:47Hole like is there one place that you start with how the defense can get back on the right track one thing that stands out
00:54Just tackling I mean obviously offensive guys are gonna make plays but we have to limit those plays those those extra
01:00Miss tackle to equals five six extra yards that could be the game winner
01:04And we just got to be better and get more heads to the football
01:07Why do you think that is that the tackling has not been better? You haven't been I feel like we're going too much for the strip
01:14Sometimes and going for the big hit instead of just getting guys on the ground and we feel like we correct those things
01:19You know, so some plays will be in our favor
01:21So a lot of this at least some of this is fixable. Oh, yeah
01:24I mean, obviously we're what week five into the season. It should have been fixed, but we still have opportunity Sunday
01:30You know what? I mean? We're one in four, but we still have everything in front of us
01:32We get this one on Sunday, you know, it can be a lot carrying over. How are you doing physically?
01:37I feel good, obviously to miss last week, but I feel good going in this week and I'll be ready for Sunday
01:42We never want to miss any game. What was last week particularly frustrating seeing how much Lou blitzed?
01:47Yeah, as soon as he told us the game plan on Wednesday
01:51I kind of got a little frustrated because that's my type of game, but we play well, you know
01:56Change a couple plays here and there. No, we could have won but you can't can't can't dwell on it
02:01You ready? We got your for Sunday night
02:04Practice is practice
02:05But do you ever think back to training camp and this is one of the best?
02:09Offenses in the league and you guys are right there with them winning half the days
02:14Something you guys ever think about when you're going through struggles, I'm not really obviously we we see them every day
02:19So we've got a good feel on what they want to run and stuff like that
02:21But when it comes to the season, we just have to be better on our end as a whole
02:26Obviously, we're not getting enough pressure on the quarterback
02:28We're not making plays when the football is in the air and it's causing us to give up a lot of points and explosives
02:33So we got to find ways to do that and get our offense on the field
02:36How do you like that idea Mike of trying to dictate a little more with aggression with blitzing going forward to try to?
02:43jump-start things like
02:47Yeah, it could be a tone setter for us, you know, obviously starting out early getting the quarterback frustrated and flustered, you know
02:52Obviously Lamar played great, you know, that's just one of one of those guys
02:55But we feel like the game plan was good
02:57And you know, it kind of definitely gave us a lot of confidence so that we got that we can carry into Sunday night
03:04DJ Turner's now gonna be starting. I know he started a lot last year
03:08But where have you seen DJ Turner grow the most? He's improved so much pretty much out of everybody in our room
03:13His his trajectory has been going up, you know
03:16He's been playing well
03:16and now he's stepping back into to that corner number two row and we expect him to
03:21To play play real well and be a playmaker
03:24There's been injuries on the D-line. What can continuity on the D-line do for a defense and why is it so difficult to play when you don't have that?
03:32Oh, it's big. Obviously, it starts up front with anything run or pass
03:35And we know obviously we have one of the best pass rushers in the game and we got a great
03:40Front for when they're all healthy, but they haven't been but now that they're starting to get back, you know, we feel confident
03:46What would you say to the fans and anyone out there who has been critical of the defense so far early this season?
03:51I got y'all right. I know we've been playing like like for real
03:54Honestly, and we know we have to have to turn around for us to have a chance to make this make this run
04:00But that's the thing about this game. You always have another opportunity to go out there and prove yourself
04:04He is the expression Mike. We're not upholding our side of the bargain
04:08Does it add to your frustration level or whatever that the offense has been on a roll?
04:13And the team is not getting the wins. Definitely, you know, obviously with our offense
04:17We know we're gonna put up points, but as a defense we got to be so much better
04:20We shouldn't be giving up 30 plus points when our office is putting up 30 plus
04:24We're we're talented defense. We just got to find ways to get off the field at the end of the day
