00:00Hello, I'm Joan Buchanan, the editor of the Falkirk Herald, and I'm here to tell you about
00:05some of the stories that are making the headlines in our print edition, which is on sale now.
00:09We laid this week on the news that Falkirk Council has written to tenants to say that
00:14they are temporarily pausing non-emergency housing repairs. They say this will allow
00:18their tradesmen to bring 350 empty properties back to habitable standards, reducing homelessness
00:25and the housing waiting list. Ahead of the annual Strathcarn Hospice 10k run at the weekend,
00:32a group of pupils from Kinnaird Primary School, who raised funds for the facility, tell us
00:37what they thought of a visit to see inside. We've also details of the annual firework
00:42display which is once again being held in Calendar Park. The two-week October school
00:48break begins on Friday and we've lots of ideas on how to keep the youngsters entertained.
00:54First, congratulations to Robert and Elizabeth Paterson of Shield Hill, who celebrated their
00:59diamond anniversary this week. We've all the details of the romance over the Irish Sea and
01:03their close-knit family. There were also celebrations at Gem Engines in Loriston as
01:09they marked 50 years in business. Find out why youngsters were running to Camlyn Vineyard's
01:15ground recently for a special presentation. As Falkirk Council revealed the new development
01:21plan includes proposals for 6,000 homes to be built in 10 years. We've details of plans already
01:27underway and some of them didn't meet community approval. We've also got lots of picture spreads
01:33from events in Falkirk Town Centre at the weekend and a climate festival at the Helix Park.
01:39Meanwhile historian Ian Scott takes a look back at the history of Falkirk Children's Theatre.
01:45In sport we tell how Grangemouth golfer Graham Robertson has been handed the doomed chance to
01:50win a spot in a PGA Tour event. There's also all our usual football, rugby and basketball coverage
01:56and photographs from the recent Sparta Boxing 10th anniversary event. All these stories and lots more
02:02are in a print edition which is on sale now and also online at www.falkirkherald.co.uk. Thank you.
