00:00I hope that the generation charge that Meralco will give to its customers this October will go down.
00:06Aside from that, the International Grid Corporation of the Philippines
00:09is also seeing a decrease in the transmission charge
00:12and Meralco's customers are not the only ones who could benefit from it.
00:15Watch Mackie Polido.
00:21When there's a shortage, we need to save money.
00:23And whenever Judith or Ang Judith is in trouble,
00:26she goes through that through the discard of many Filipinos.
00:29There are no more plants.
00:31When there's a shortage, it's only once a week.
00:34It's really hard. Sometimes, you have to pay off your debts.
00:37It is expected that tomorrow,
00:39it will be known if Meralco will increase or decrease the electricity bill this October.
00:43But according to Meralco,
00:45it is possible that there will be a decrease in the generation charge this month.
00:48The decrease in the electricity bill of the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, or WESEM,
00:53is due to a decrease in demand due to the cold weather.
00:56The collection of the WESEM electricity bill was also completed in May 2024.
01:01The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, or NGCP,
01:05also announced that the electricity bill of the Ancillary Service, or Reservang Kuriente,
01:09will decrease this month.
01:10That is part of the transmission charge of 10% of the Meralco bill.
01:14For this month, as with last month,
01:16more than 50% of our billing is for ancillary services.
01:22In that proportion, it's largely driven by market prices in the reserve market.
01:30That's why it is expected that the bill will decrease by P9 per kWh in Luzon and P2 in Mindanao.
01:36But the bad news is that the bill will increase by P29 per kWh in Visayas.
01:41Those are pass-through charges and will not go to the NGCP.
01:45In February, the reserve market sold out.
01:48The NGCP needed to pay Php 5.7 billion to consumers.
01:53They only paid Php 1.7 billion last July.
01:56The Energy Regulatory Commission is still waiting for the decision
02:00on when to pay the remaining Php 4 billion.
02:03The NGCP has long anticipated that they will have to pay more
02:07if they are forced to contract Reservang Kuriente.
02:10But according to the Department of Energy,
02:12Reservang Kuriente is needed for a stronger supply.
