00:38A Rappler investigation finds a company run by the country's reclamation chief, Alex Lopez,
00:43is renting out office space to a pogo.
00:46Lopez is the chairman of the Philippine Reclamation Authority and chairman and CEO of Pacific
00:50Concrete Products.
00:52The sublease contract obtained by Rappler shows Lopez signed a January 2024 deal to
00:57rent out the ground floor of Pacific Concrete's building to the pogo company 3D Analyzer Information
01:03Technologies.
01:04The building is part of a larger property owned by the government-run Philippine National
01:08Construction Corporation.
01:11Authorities raided 3D Analyzer on October 3 and found evidence of love scam operations.
01:16This was after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. banned all pogos.
01:20Pacific Concrete's lawyer Aldo del Rosario confirms the sublease to Rappler.
01:25He says Pacific Concrete is 65 years old, has had many subleases, and is a Quadruple
01:29A contractor.
01:31Rappler sought comment from Lopez but the PRA pointed to Pacific Concrete.
01:37Cebu City Vice Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia officially takes over as mayor Wednesday,
01:42October 9.
01:43This after the ombudsman dismissed and perpetually disqualified Mayor Michael Rama from public
01:47office.
01:49The ombudsman earlier found Rama guilty of nepotism and grave misconduct when he appointed
01:54his two brothers-in-law to government posts.
01:57After his inauguration, Garcia announced he is discontinuing Rama's program and catchphrase
02:01to make Cebu like Singapore.
02:04Garcia says he wants Cebu City to have its own identity and he will prioritize finishing
02:08the construction of the Cebu City Medical Center.
02:11Meanwhile, Rama is vying for re-election as mayor.
02:14His lawyers earlier said they would appeal the ombudsman's order.
02:18This means Rama may still face off with Garcia for mayor in the May 2025 election.
02:23Garcia is the son of former Cebu City Mayor Alvin Garcia and a nephew of Cebu Governor
02:28Gwen Garcia.
02:31Hurricane Milton exits Florida Thursday morning Eastern Time after whipping up deadly tornadoes,
02:36destroying homes and knocking out power for more than 3 million.
02:40Tampa Bay, Florida Mayor Jane Castor tells MSNBC, damage from Milton was nothing like
02:45it could have been.
02:46Tampa Bay metropolitan area appears to have escaped without the catastrophic flooding
02:50that had been feared.
02:52Rivers have yet to crest, but so far, water levels are at or below what they received
02:56with Hurricane Helene two weeks ago.
02:59The storm hit Florida's west coast on Wednesday night as a Category 3 hurricane on a five-step
03:03scale with top-sustained winds of 120 mph.
03:07It weakened as it crossed land, dropping to a Category 1 hurricane.
03:11While still a dangerous storm, this was less violent than the rare Category 5 Hurricane
03:15Milton was as it headed toward Florida.
03:20Singer-actress Julianne San Jose apologizes after getting flak for her controversial performance
03:25inside a Catholic church in Occidental Mindoro.
03:28Videos online show San Jose singing secular songs right in front of a church's altar,
03:33which some social media users consider inappropriate.
03:36San Jose says, quote,
03:37This is a lesson learned, and it is assured that it will not be repeated.
03:41I am not perfect, but please know that I have strong beliefs, and my fate is unbreakable
03:45and cannot be shaken.
03:47San Jose's agency, Sparkle GMA Artist Center, says it takes full responsibility for her
03:52attendance at the concert.
03:54Following the backlash, Nuestra Senora del Pilar Parish priest, Fr.
03:57Carlito de Maano, apologizes for the secular concert, which, quote,
04:02hurt the feelings of the faithful.
04:04Under the Code of Canon Law, anything not consonant with the holiness of the place is
04:08forbidden, although bishops can permit other uses.
