Former Kalibo mayor and veteran journalist Johnny Dayang was shot and killed in his residence in Barangay Andagaw, Kalibo, Aklan on Tuesday evening, April 29. He was 89.

00:11are still unidentified. Based on the initial investigation, Dayang was watching the news
00:16when the assailant saw him from outside his house and shot him from a distance.
00:21Officials from the Aklan Provincial Police Office says Dayang was declared dead on arrival in the
00:25hospital. The Presidential Task Force on Media Safety in a statement condemns Dayang's killing.
00:31Dayang was a former president of the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc., a writer
00:36and columnist. He also served as mayor of Calibo Town from March 1986 to January 1987. Nelson Santos,
00:44the current president of the Publishers Association of the Philippines, condemns the killing and calls
00:48for justice in a statement. Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Manny Mogato expresses his grief over
00:54Dayang's death and asked, quote, who would kill an 89-year-old man of peace. As of posting,
01:00police are still investigating the reason behind the killing.
