After appearing in musicals as a teenager, he joined Boyzone in 1993. He sang alongside Ronan Keating. While on holiday in Mallorca with his husband, Stephen Gately died suddenly in his sleep during the night. According to an official autopsy, he died of pulmonary edema, or fluid buildup in the lungs.
