00:00This month of October, we call it National Cooperative Month.
00:05This is an important opportunity for us to get to know the contribution of cooperatives
00:10in our economy and in the lives of Filipinos.
00:14To get to know the important information about this, we will be joined by
00:19Senior Cooperative Development Specialist, Ms. Hermelina Reselis and Sir Sergio Herrero Jr.
00:26Good morning and welcome back here in Rise and Shine Philippines.
00:29Good morning to everyone watching this morning.
00:32Okay, tell us more about the National Cooperative Month.
00:36What is the theme of our celebration today?
00:39And give us the importance of this celebration
00:43and how it will help our economy and the lives of Filipinos.
00:46Yes, good morning to all of us.
00:49Thank you PTV4 for inviting us again to NCR.
00:53Our theme today is Cooperatives Stronger Together Today for a Brighter Tomorrow.
01:01So, here in the theme chosen by the Cooperative Development Authority
01:06together with the National Alliance of Cooperatives,
01:10they approved this theme to be adopted nationwide.
01:14So, we will be celebrating our Cooperative Month nationwide simultaneously.
01:19So, here we want to prove that we are stronger today
01:24because the contribution of our cooperatives throughout the Philippines is already huge.
01:30So, in our reports, we can see that we have already made a huge contribution to the economy of the Philippines
01:40and this is a big help to small, medium, and enterprise
01:44because they are able to avail loans even if they cannot get loans from the banks.
01:49We are able to get closer to our cooperatives.
01:52So, to our lending co-ops, happy Cooperative Month.
01:59Thank you for your help in lending to our small businesses,
02:05to those in need, not only for business, but also for livelihood and other kinds of loans.
02:16And to our agricultural co-ops, our government is very supportive.
02:22We have grants for our agricultural co-ops.
02:25Maybe our colleague, Sir June Herrero, can discuss this.
02:30Our help to farmers nationwide is not affected by NCR
02:38because we don't have many agricultural co-ops organized.
02:42So, we are giving grants to them
02:49to help our small co-ops.
02:54So, in NCR, we have a lot of activities in Cooperative Month.
03:00We started in the Cooperative Job Fair last October 1.
03:04So, we have a lot of job seekers who went to SM Sky Dome.
03:09Thank you to SM, the venue is free.
03:12So, there.
03:13Then, we have a lot of activities in the whole NCR.
03:19We expect your support in our activities.
03:24In the whole NCR, we have a local celebration.
03:29We can help by contacting cooperative development offices nationwide.
03:36In NCR, sorry.
03:39So, we have a lot of activities nationwide.
03:43Sir June, not all Filipinos know the purpose of cooperative.
03:49Can you explain to those who are not familiar with this?
03:54What is the purpose of a cooperative?
03:56Empowerment.
03:58Because a cooperative will educate the people to do business.
04:02We call it economy of scale.
04:04If one person can't do it,
04:06we can join their capital to start with a business.
04:10From lending, producers,
04:13producing products,
04:15and marketing products.
04:17To give them a chance to engage in business.
04:21Not only producing business,
04:23but this is also an employment opportunity for people.
04:28When a cooperative is formed,
04:30they need to work here.
04:32From manager, bookkeeper, and other work that we need to produce.
04:36So, this will have a labor intensive.
04:38That's why Merna said that in August 1,
04:41we opened a business opportunity to apply for a job.
04:48And our labor service offered a job opening
04:53to individuals who will go to SM.
04:58So, a lot of people were employed.
05:00And there was a job opportunity for this matter.
05:03So, a lot of opportunities were opened.
05:06Okay.
05:07Empowerment and employment opportunities,
05:09as explained by Sir John.
05:11You were talking about matching cooperatives.
05:15Can you tell us more about that?
05:17This coming October 17,
05:19we will provide educational information
05:23to consumer, marketing, producers, and logistic cooperative.
05:28Where you can match the product.
05:30For example,
05:32if you have a product like this,
05:35you can order logistic and bring it to the end user.
05:38So, like our producers who can market,
05:42we will business match this.
05:44Especially to consumers.
05:46We will teach the producers
05:48if we have a deal with our product.
05:51And if we have a market product,
05:53we can teach them where to focus our products in their market.
05:58And the logistics.
06:01So, we can give them an opportunity
06:03to enhance their business.
06:05Whatever they produce,
06:07they can engage it in their business.
06:09So, we try to business match each business.
06:13How can we do that?
06:15So, we can read the layer.
06:17Because that's where the problem is.
06:19The product might increase
06:21because of the price of the product.
06:23Because there are a lot of layers in marketing.
06:25So, we are trying to do
06:28to eliminate the layering of marketing
06:31so that we can lower the price of the products.
06:37So, you are doing seminars
06:40to help our fellow citizens.
06:43So, how can we help the cooperative?
06:46We have training calendars
06:49that are posted on the Facebook account of CDA,
06:52our official Facebook account.
06:56We have 15 financial literacy
06:59for agriculture cooperatives
07:02that are engaged.
07:04It's not just agriculture that is producing.
07:07It's the agriculture involved in agriculture.
07:11Like, there are transport,
07:13logistics cooperatives
07:15that are delivering.
07:17So, they are included in our financial literacy.
07:19We also have consumers cooperatives
07:23that do bulk orders
07:25to our farmers in the province.
07:27Like, the National Cooperative,
07:31Marketing Cooperative.
07:33So, Federation of Marketing Cooperatives.
07:36So, they have wholesaling of rice.
07:39So, they are directly consulting
07:41the cooperatives.
07:43So, NCR is our market
07:45for our farmers.
07:47So, as far as possible,
07:49NCR is doing
07:51help to our farmers
07:53through cooperatives.
07:55So, our consumers cooperatives
07:57are the ones distributing
07:59agricultural products from the province.
08:01Well, clearly,
08:03cooperatives have a lot of benefits
08:05in the lives of their members
08:07and even in the local economy.
08:09But in terms of challenges,
08:11what are the challenges
08:13that cooperatives are facing?
08:15And what are your recommendations
08:17to solve these challenges?
08:20Yes, that's why we are having
08:22business matching because
08:24our product is now out of market.
08:26So, this is one of the things
08:28that we are doing.
08:30One of the challenges,
08:32as Ms. Merla said,
08:34is that we need to educate.
08:36Most of our cooperatives
08:38have less knowledge
08:40of what a cooperative is.
08:42That's why there are
08:44so-called cooperative disputes
08:46or big problems
08:48Plus, our own economy
08:50is affected directly
08:52by our cooperatives
08:54because cooperatives are
08:56engaged in business.
08:58Just like our cooperatives
09:00in our nationwide business
09:02or in our economics,
09:04the whole cooperative is affected.
09:06So, these are the challenges
09:08that we are facing.
09:10How about the cooperatives
09:12in faraway places,
09:14for example, in Mindanao?
09:16Mindanao is also one of the issues
09:18in Mindanao, but it is
09:20doing well.
09:22In our observation,
09:24because their goods
09:26are easy to get
09:28because there are no enemies
09:30of multinational corporations,
09:32they are doing better compared
09:34to the NCR.
09:36It's the opposite.
09:38They are the ones who are
09:40being chased by ordinary people.
09:42If there is a big cooperative,
09:44they will get capital
09:46from their production.
09:48They will immediately get loans
09:50and support
09:52from their farmers
09:54or their goods.
09:56They will get it because
09:58there are no enemies.
10:00Their own business
10:02will be benefited.
10:04That's the good thing
10:06when it comes to the province.
10:08For those watching us
10:10who are encouraged to form their own cooperatives
10:12or want to become a member
10:14of a cooperative,
10:16what steps should they take?
10:18Who can they consult?
10:20For the NCR,
10:22just go to our website, CDA.
10:24We have a free
10:26PRS,
10:28Pre-Registration
10:30Seminar.
10:32It's scheduled,
10:34including
10:36our
10:38local
10:40government
10:42units.
10:44We have cooperative development
10:46officers.
10:48The good thing
10:50about joining a cooperative
10:52is that we are
10:54encouraged by the merger
10:56and consolidation of cooperatives
10:58to become stronger.
11:00Maybe our cooperatives
11:02will realize that
11:04when there is a merger and consolidation,
11:06our cooperatives will become stronger.
11:08This is one program.
11:10There is an incentive
11:12for micro and small cooperatives
11:14to merge
11:16and consolidate
11:18into 5 cooperatives.
11:20If they are small,
11:22the assets are less than 3 million.
11:24The government,
11:26the CDA, has an incentive
11:28that when you are consolidated,
11:30we will give you
11:32a bigger capital.
11:34Not big,
11:36maybe hundreds or thousands.
11:38How can we convince
11:40our countrymen
11:42to join a cooperative?
11:44Do you have data
11:46on how many cooperatives
11:48have been helped in our country?
11:50Nationwide, we have
11:52a strong cooperative of 15,000.
11:54We have
11:56billionaires cooperatives.
11:58Not only
12:00in NCR, but also nationwide.
12:02I just want to add.
12:04It's not only our cooperative
12:06that we are discussing.
12:08We also have funds.
12:10We have a fundshoot
12:12on October 23.
12:14It will be held in Marikina.
12:16It is known for making
12:18guns there.
12:20This October 28, we will be having
12:22a fan group game.
12:24All the cooperatives from NCR
12:26will be invited to the fundshoot.
12:28It will be the same for the group.
12:30You can contact me
12:32for the fundshoot.
12:34I have already sent teasers
12:36to all the cooperatives.
12:38For the gun enthusiasts,
12:40let's play and have fun.
12:42It's like a fellowship.
12:44Please to invite again all our viewers
12:46to be part of this National Cooperative Month
12:48and join your activities.
12:50All of our cooperatives
12:52nationwide,
12:54including the NCR.
12:56We are announcing activities
12:58including FD, NCR.
13:00Everything is announced there.
13:04We will participate there
13:06including our
13:08business matching, the fundshoot,
13:10and the fun group
13:12to involve all the cooperatives.
13:14We need fun, not just
13:16work.
13:18Let's enjoy being cooperative
13:20with unity
13:22and togetherness.
13:24Thank you very much for sharing
13:26important information about
13:28National Cooperative Month.
13:30We are joined by
13:32Hermelina Rosales and Sergio Herrero Jr.
13:34Thank you very much.
13:36Thank you ETB4.
