Gamuda launches inclusive artificial intelligence academy

The partnership between two industry giants - one in construction and engineering, the other in technology - reached a new milestone with the launch of Malaysia's first purpose-built AI-based training academy. 00:00I would like to invite you as well as Ms. Serene to sign our plaque signifying the official launch of the Kamudha AI Academy.

00:11I think this is a mark of timely collaboration between two giants with a very important goal.

00:19We want to help build Malaysia's AI talent pool.

00:23I must also thank Google once again, the confidence that you have shown in Malaysia,

00:28your US$2 billion data centre and cloud region facility investment.

00:35It is expected to generate over US$3.2 billion in economic impact and more importantly create some 26,500 jobs by the year 2030.

00:47The series of investments by Google and of course the other tech giants of late

00:52underscores Malaysia's attractiveness as a premier destination to global investors.

00:58Ladies and gentlemen, Malaysia's tech ecosystem is booming thanks to the Medani Government's strategic initiatives

01:06and of course our commitment to turn the nation into a leading digital economy in the region, if not globally.

01:13There is a lot of positive sentiment at the moment.

01:16Malaysia's digital economy is expected to exceed the target of 25.5% by the end of 2025 next year.

01:26Now all of this really bodes well for our country but I don't think we should be complacent.

01:33We must continue raising the bar and thinking of transforming Malaysia into a regional AI hub.

01:39This includes of course establishing a skilled workforce to satisfy what I see as the growing demands of the tech industry moving ahead.

01:48It is all well for us to drive the digital agenda in our pursuit for AI excellence and boosting our digital economy.

01:55But we must always ensure that no one is left behind and that our policies and initiatives are always inclusive and holistic.

02:04Equipping our youth with the right skills, especially in this digital era,

02:08is also something our Prime Minister, Dr Suyanna Ibrahim, is very concerned about

02:12as he has repeatedly called for more AI-related lessons and TVET training in schools and other learning institutions.

02:19Therefore, the Gamuda AI Academy clearly supports this vision.

02:22And I have been told that the Academy provides a full-stack development course

02:26for students who will then develop the engineering knowledge sufficient to build an AI application from start to end.

02:33At the end of the three-month boot camp, students are able to pursue their own career opportunities

02:38or apply for internships at one of many Google Cloud partners and customers.

02:43This is most encouraging and I do hope that you can roll out more programmes in the near future

02:49to address other industry needs that may arise.

02:52At Google Cloud, we believe that by making AI skills and tools accessible to more Malaysians,

03:00we can unlock growth opportunities and solve some of humanity's biggest challenges.

03:07This Academy represents their continual effort to make a positive impact in Malaysia for Malaysians.
