00:00The New Year's Eve fireworks display in London is one of the hottest tickets of the year.
00:04Since 2014, the event has been ticket only. Prior to this, about half a million people
00:09would descend on central London, causing major concerns about crowd safety.
00:14Last year, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan,
00:16increased the price of the tickets from £15 to £20.
00:20And this year, he's introducing essentially a tourist tax, meaning there'll be a £15
00:24levy for people who are not living in London to come into the capital,
00:28either people coming from abroad or from the rest of the country.
00:31Sadiq will also be introducing new charges,
00:34depending on where you actually view the fireworks from.
00:37So if you want a prime location, such as on Westminster Bridge,
00:41on Waterloo Bridge, or on the Victoria Embankment, directly opposite the London Eye,
00:46you will pay £35 if you're a Londoner, or £50 if you're from out of town
00:52or travelling into the UK from abroad.
00:55Why are most ticket prices increasing?
00:57Well, the reason is that it cost City Hall a lot of money to stage this display.
01:02Last year, it was more than £4 million,
01:04but only about £1 million came back in through ticket sales.
01:08Nevertheless, Sadiq Khan says that the fireworks display is a great way to showcase the capital,
01:13not just to the rest of the country, but globally.
01:16So how do you get your hands on these tickets?
01:19Well, they will go on sale next Friday at midday.
01:23That's Friday the 18th of October.
