A Victorian police officer has been suspended amid allegations she performed a Nazi salute in front of work colleagues. Police say the sergeant is accused of making the gesture on two occasions this week at the Victoria Police Academy. The officer, from the people development command, was last night suspended with pay as a criminal investigation takes place into the alleged incidents. Victoria Police say there is no place for this type of conduct within the police force.

00:00I want to express just here at the outset my disappointment, my disgust, my anger at
00:10this appalling conduct.
00:12It's sort of horrid conduct and it doesn't matter who commits it, we will investigate
00:17it and we will investigate it thoroughly as is occurring on this occasion.
00:22I want to acknowledge though the Academy staff and the recruits who came forward and reported
00:29this matter so that we knew it occurred.
00:31There's simply no place for this type of conduct in our society let alone in this police force.
00:39For that reason I want to profoundly apologise to the Jewish community but also the community
00:46as a whole.
00:47They will undoubtedly be feeling let down that this conduct has occurred by a police
00:53officer.
