00:12Police were searching for three men allegedly seen running from the area following a serious
00:17assault on the officer and another off-duty policeman about 11pm on Wednesday at Newtown
00:22in Sydney's Inner West.
00:24The officer was taken to the nearby Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he is in a serious
00:29but stable condition.
00:34That assault was a very violent assault and we know that one of the officers received
00:42injuries to his face, went to the RPA and has subsequently been released.
00:49The other officer, however, has endured very significant injuries.
00:56I am told that that act was incredibly violent and, in fact, the footage that the police
01:04have received is very, very distressing to watch.
01:09These types of violent crimes are not what we want to see on our streets.
01:16This is a despicable act against two officers who were out enjoying themselves in this very
01:24vibrant part of our city and we now have an officer who is still in hospital as we
01:32speak in a stable but very serious condition and undergoing further tests.
