00:00The 97th Congress of the Italian Society of Urology is an opportunity to discuss many issues, one in particular is the issue of denaturation.
00:14Certainly the issue of denaturation is a very worrying issue for our country. This year we have 400,000 less births than last year, which is a significant number,
00:25which means that there is certainly a greater concern on the part of many young men, but there is also an issue related to the decrease in the ability to fertilize man's fertility.
00:42In the past, we were all used to do the famous liver exam at the age of 18. It was a visit during which the male genital organs were also checked and those pathologies such as varicose veins that could lead to a decrease in fertility were excluded.
01:03This pit stop, let's call it that, no longer exists today because the mandatory liver exam has been eliminated and therefore today there is less prevention in this field.
01:15Therefore, even 18-year-old men, unlike what happens to girls and young women who go to the gynecologist early, do not go to the urologist for an initial assessment of their fertility ability.
01:35So this is certainly a fact that we can put in correlation with the decrease in the birth of newborns in Italy and in our country and that certainly finds in the urologist a privileged interlocutor.
01:50What can be done to try to improve prevention in light of what you have told us and this change in the context?
01:59Sensitization is the key word. We have to talk to people, make people understand that preventing is better than curing, as always, and in the field of infertility, a periodic visit around 18 years old for our boys is useful precisely in order to verify that those conditions, those pathologies that can lead to a decrease in fertility are not in force.
