00:03:31IBF light flyweight champion Simenetti non-singer
00:03:36To defend his title against the former world champion
00:03:41Masamichi
00:03:42Yabuki two men with a penchant for dramatics and with electric power for the weight class if you were dream
00:03:50Matchmaking with an eye towards drama and potential violence
00:03:54This might be the fight you would make above all others at 108
00:03:59This one has the potential to be special
00:04:29You know
00:04:59Oh
00:05:06This man Masamichi
00:05:08Yabuki has what had one of the most improbable runs in high-level boxing over the last decade or so
00:05:15After a short amateur career on the Japanese high school circuit
00:05:19Yabuki from the tiny Midori gym jumped into the deep end in the pros
00:05:25Facing the likes of Junto Nakatani and Saigo Yuri Akui in his developmental years in
00:05:322021
00:05:33Yabuki scored a colossal upset over Kenshiro Taraji to win the WBC light flyweight title as a plus
00:05:421100 underdog now
00:05:45Yabuki needs another improbable moment bouncing back from a torn Achilles last year to become a
00:05:53two-time world champion
00:05:55as you hear his entrance music saying
00:05:58the Japanese boxing community needs a hero and perhaps
00:06:03They'll have another world champion here tonight in Tokoname
00:06:22Oh
00:06:41Aka Kona
00:06:44IBF sekai light flight you champion
00:06:48Minami Africa
00:06:50Singha says no new Jones
00:07:21Oh
00:07:34Sivanadi Nanshinga has lived by the edict of bet on yourself
00:07:39Journeying from a small farming community in South Africa to the highest reaches of professional boxing
00:07:46daring to chase his dreams starting at the age of 18
00:07:49Tonight he's taken it even more literally
00:07:53Legitimately betting on himself to beat Masamichi Yabuki on the road in Japan here tonight
00:07:59And why not not Shinga has made a career out of winning world title fights on the road and by extension
00:08:06His trainer Colin Nathan has as well leading fighters to high-profile victories in Japan
00:08:14specifically
00:08:15Nanshinga was on the wrong end of a shocking defeat at the hands of Adrian Curiel
00:08:20but turned the tables in a fight of the year contender a
00:08:25Stunning comeback victory last time out in Oaxaca to regain his IBF world title
00:08:31Does the special one have another special moment within him?
00:08:36He might have to dig deep to find that out here tonight
00:08:46On
00:09:00A weekend when the light heavyweight division is taking center stage the light flyweight division
00:09:07May very well produce the best fight of the week
00:09:11this is a division very much in transition Kenshiro Taraji and
00:09:16Jonathan Gonzalez have ventured up to 112
00:09:20Nanshinga tried in earnest to make fights with both of them
00:09:23But now he remains the only title holder left at 108
00:09:29Yabuki is of course the only man to defeat the pound-for-pound stalwart Kenshiro back in
00:09:352021 when he snatched the WBC's version of the divisional title before losing it in the rematch
00:09:41He's on a three-fight win streak and since then
00:09:46Has looked
00:09:48like an improved fighter
00:09:50And he's looking to join Nanshinga as a two-time world champion with a victory here tonight

00:17:32Let's go to work
00:17:37Two fighters with world titles on their respective mantles two men with flooding knockout power
00:17:46Two fighters who have shown vulnerabilities and the ability to overcome them in dramatic ways
00:17:53Which of these two men will leave Japan as the de facto
00:17:59Divisional king let's find out round one this one that scheduled for 12
00:18:05Sivinati non Shinga the IBF light flyweight champion in the black trunks
00:18:09Masamichi Yabuki the former WBC champion in the white trunks trimmed with silver
00:18:15A courier had been on the call for you here tonight or this morning wherever you're joining us in the world
00:18:21Delighted to be on the call for this one
00:18:31Shinga and Yabuki trading jabs here early
00:18:34This is a matchup of two fighters who are pretty big for the weight division of course
00:18:41Relative at 108 but non Shinga and Yabuki both big and long for the division
00:18:49A very interesting physical matchup
00:18:53On top of this being a matchup of two of the division's very best not Shinga the only remaining
00:19:00world title holder
00:19:02at 108 pounds
00:19:05Left hook there from Yabuki
00:19:08It's
00:19:13Really one of the questions
00:19:14Surrounding Yabuki coming into this fight is whether he still has the ability to be as explosive as he bet as he was back
00:19:22in 2021 when he beat Kenshiro
00:19:26Yabuki in the last two years has had to recover from a torn Achilles
00:19:32As well as a tear in his pelvis
00:19:35Torn Achilles of course a death sentence for many athlete over the years
00:19:44And Yabuki last time out against Kevin Vivas looked a
00:19:49Lot sturdier a lot less mobile
00:19:52He lands a nice counter right hand there
00:19:56Question is was that out of necessity or was it by design where those improvements that Yabuki has made
00:20:05I
00:20:10Think the last time out we saw him really just wait
00:20:13Adrian Kuriel out a little bit of a rope a dope tactic from not Shinga
00:20:20Ultimately stopping Kuriel in the tenth round of a fight that looked rather puzzling for a long time
00:20:26Ultimately was a terrific game plan from both not Shinga and his trainer Colin Nathan
00:20:32Oh
00:20:34Shinga getting off to a somewhat slow start here in the early going
00:20:41Continues to try to find his range
00:20:47Ten seconds of the opening round a good one here for Yabuki
00:20:54It's off to a good start on home soil
00:20:56I
00:21:26He was born in July 1992 in Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture.
00:21:31He made his debut in March 2016.
00:21:34He has won 16 out of 20 matches and 4 of 16 titles.
00:22:26Tremendous camp for Nanshinga getting to train alongside a stablemate who's also preparing to face an elite fighter in the same country.
00:22:34Couldn't have asked for a better atmosphere for Nanshinga to prepare for this one within.
00:22:42Good right hand over the top there from Yabuki.
00:22:45And that one might have had Nanshinga in a little bit of trouble, at least temporarily.
00:22:51Again, we've talked about the recuperative abilities that Nanshinga has shown through the years.
00:22:56But Yabuki, an electric puncher at 108.
00:23:09See Nanshinga carrying his left hand extremely high.
00:23:13We saw him do something similar in the Adrian Curiel rematch.
00:23:18Effectively trying to take the left hook away.
00:23:24Tonight you see him kind of overcompensating to try and take away that right hand as he lands a terrific left hook of his own.
00:23:30That one acknowledged by Yabuki.
00:23:44Nanshinga corner telling him to hold his position.
00:23:47Perhaps not wanting Nanshinga to hang out on the ropes as he was earlier on in the round.
00:23:57Again, going back to the question of the mobility of Yabuki given the injuries he's had to overcome.
00:24:05You'd have to think that the more that Nanshinga can hold his ground,
00:24:09the more he would have to pose that question.
00:24:19Nanshinga looking for a big overhand right.
00:24:21Yabuki steps back, counters with a nice uppercut.
00:24:40High level power boxing in the center of the ring right now.
00:24:44A better round for Nanshinga.
00:24:50Yabuki comes over the top with a right hand.
00:24:52And that will do it for round two.
00:25:40Masamichi! Masamichi!
00:25:52You saw Masamichi Yabuki's family sitting ringside as round three now begins.
00:25:58That includes his 13-year-old daughter, Yuzuki Sato, who's a multi-time national amateur champion.
00:26:06A leading hopeful for the 2028 Olympics, hoping to represent Japan.
00:26:11Yabuki also very focused on training her.
00:26:14Yabuki, very important figure in the Japanese amateur boxing scene as well.
00:26:20He helped sponsor the most recent youth national amateur tournament
00:26:24and ensured with his own money and through the procurement of other sponsorship
00:26:28that the entry fee would only be 2,000 yen to make sure that it's not prohibitive
00:26:34for any child that wants to participate.
00:26:37Yabuki not only vying to become world champion again himself,
00:26:42but helping potentially produce the next generation of world champions in his country as well.
00:26:48Pssst! Pssst!
00:26:58Pssst! Pssst!
00:27:01Pssst!
00:27:03You get the sense early that both men are very respectful of one another's power.
00:27:09Historically though, both Natshinga and Yabuki have shown
00:27:15they can develop a little bit of impatience.
00:27:19And once things start to get wild, that's also when they start to get fun.
00:27:24But also dangerous for both fighters as Natshinga places a nice right hand to the body.
00:27:30There you see from Yabuki some of those habits that can put him in danger,
00:27:36but can also be quite exciting.
00:27:39He starts to open up when he starts to get wide.
00:27:51That's what Yabuki has been all about at his best.
00:27:54That's what Yabuki has been all about at his best.
00:27:56The defense is tight, but the punches can be wide, but they can be effective.
00:28:13Right hand over the top there from Yabuki.
00:28:18Natshinga swims his way to the inside and places a right hand to the body himself.
00:28:23Natshinga triggers, then let it go.
00:28:45Closing in on the final 10 seconds here of round 3.
00:28:49It's essentially been a jab battle for the last 3 minutes.
00:28:55Yabuki the one seeming to take the initiative in that round.
00:29:18Yabuki the one seeming to take the initiative in that round.
00:29:48Round 4 underway.
00:30:01This IBF light flyweight title bout between the champion Sebenadi Natshinga,
00:30:06the challenger Masamichi Yabuki.
00:30:09We've talked about the similarities of these fighters both in terms of their career arcs,
00:30:17and also their temperaments inside the ring,
00:30:19in terms of their upbringing within the pro boxing scene.
00:30:27Couldn't be more different.
00:30:28Natshinga essentially grew up on a conveyor belt of elite fighters in the lower weight classes.
00:30:35He's been training partners with Simple Way Kanko and DJ Creel and Hecky Budler.
00:30:40Masamichi Yabuki comes from the Midori gym which we referenced during his ring walk.
00:30:47He was the first Japanese national champion that the gym had produced in 26 years.
00:30:53Since Satoru Abe went on to fight for an interim minimum weight title many many years ago.
00:31:03Yabuki effectively forging his own path in his environment.
00:31:07Natshinga a self made man in many ways,
00:31:11but has had a lot of help from a lot of elite fighters during his development.
00:31:16The jab and turn, the jab and turn all the time.
00:31:18Reverse, reverse, nice turn.
00:31:20And come back, come back, high guard, high guard.
00:31:27Jabbing the body there from Yabuki.
00:31:30The Natshinga corner, minding their fighter to keep a high guard.
00:31:47It's clear that the Natshinga game plan, very very focused on defensive awareness.
00:31:53Both of these fighters only need a split second to end this one.
00:32:01Could come down to one critical mistake from either fighter.
00:32:10Slight hand there from Natshinga.
00:32:16Very different type of fight here than we're used to seeing Natshinga in,
00:32:21at least over the last couple of fights.
00:32:23This is not the CompuBox busting type of affair that we saw against Hector Flores.
00:32:33Much more tactical affair here and you can see Natshinga just waiting
00:32:37for those trigger moments to fire that right hand over the top.
00:32:41Jab from Yabuki has been persistent and it has been heavy.
00:32:47As we come to the end of round four.
00:33:10Round five.
00:33:40Round five.
00:33:59Round five begins.
00:34:02As we mentioned, Sivanadi Natshinga was searching for the toughest challenges
00:34:07here in the 108 pound division.
00:34:09As we mentioned, he wanted a fight against Bamba Gonzalez,
00:34:12he wanted a unification bout against Kenshiro Taraji.
00:34:16Both of those fighters ultimately left 108 and ironically both are fighting
00:34:21this weekend in Japan in different fights.
00:34:24So all of those central figures that were once at play at 108,
00:34:28they're all fighting here in the country in a three day stretch.
00:34:32The winner of this fight would of course hold the only belt
00:34:38that is presently held at 108.
00:34:40Natshinga the only reigning champion at 108 at the moment.
00:34:48He felt that Yabuki was the best challenge, the best fight for him.
00:34:54Yabuki actually DM'd Natshinga once again.
00:34:58Yabuki actually DM'd Natshinga once things started falling through
00:35:02with Taraji and Gonzalez.
00:35:04Said I would love to fight you and Natshinga replied politely
00:35:07and said it would be an honor.
00:35:11You can see the respect between these two.
00:35:15Knowing the power that one another possess.
00:35:23Now Natshinga starting to open up a little bit more.
00:35:25Missing over the top with a wild right hand.
00:35:31Yabuki there to meet him with another stiff jab.
00:35:33Yabuki has effectively been a one handed fighter here tonight.
00:35:37That's not to say he hasn't been effective.
00:35:39He may very well be ahead on the scorecards.
00:35:48But that defensive, if you want to call it over compensation
00:35:53from Natshinga to erase that right hand of Yabuki
00:35:56has been effective in that sense.
00:35:59Has nullified the big power shot from Yabuki
00:36:03almost daring him to get a little wild, to take some risks.
00:36:08As Yabuki tries to find a hole in the guard of Natshinga
00:36:11with a straight right hand there a moment ago.
00:36:15Natshinga starting to pick up the tempo here in round 5.
00:36:20Starting to make Yabuki step backwards just a little bit.
00:36:26And in doing so finds a lane for that right hand over the top.
00:36:3010 seconds of round 5 as the tempo begins to pick up.
00:36:35Here in this world title fight and Yabuki
00:36:37landed with a terrific right hand.
00:36:39You saw the sweat fly.
00:36:41Was that the right hand of Natshinga?
00:36:43Was that the right hand of Natshinga?
00:36:45Or was that the right hand of Natshinga?
00:36:47Let's find out.
00:36:59Was that enough to steal the round back?
00:37:30Yabuki! Yabuki! Yabuki!
00:37:53Round 6.
00:38:00So round 6 begins
00:38:03in a fight that has the feeling
00:38:05of one that may be about to explode.
00:38:08Both men opening up a lot more there in round 5.
00:38:11Getting a little more active with their power hands.
00:38:18Natshinga as we mentioned literally bet
00:38:2130,000 South African Rand on himself to win this fight.
00:38:26Yabuki for his part
00:38:28as many Japanese fighters are in the press
00:38:31almost disarmingly humble
00:38:33said I think I have about a 50% chance of winning
00:38:36but day by day I hope that percentage goes up.
00:38:41This is certainly looking like a 50-50 fight right now.
00:38:45We see a little redness on the outside of the left eye
00:38:48of Natshinga beginning to develop perhaps courtesy
00:38:53of that consistent jab
00:38:55that Yabuki has been firing all night long.
00:39:04As Yabuki starts to take the initiative here in round 6
00:39:09Natshinga's corner telling him you're waiting too long
00:39:12not wanting that to be the case.
00:39:14Natshinga was having success in the 5th round
00:39:17when he was first
00:39:19when he was starting to get Yabuki to move backwards.
00:39:26Those right hands even when they don't land
00:39:30they are making Yabuki give ground
00:39:33and again we go back to the big question mark
00:39:36the injury past of Yabuki
00:39:39and whether he could be as mobile
00:39:41whether he could be as effective
00:39:44particularly fighting off the back foot.
00:39:48Right hand there from Yabuki
00:39:50just lets that go right from the shoulder
00:39:53straight right hand right down the pipe.
00:40:05Combination work here from Yabuki
00:40:07as Natshinga fires back
00:40:09tries to create some space once again.
00:40:18Big right hand again there from Yabuki.
00:40:24Crowd starting to get into this one
00:40:27starting to react a little more vocally
00:40:30to these Yabuki shots.
00:40:33We're inside the final 20 seconds of round 6.
00:40:45Left hook there from Yabuki
00:40:47Natshinga tried to get there with one hand
00:40:50as round 6 comes to a close.
00:41:21Should we get a change?
00:41:46Ready to go?
00:41:50Go!
00:41:53Round 7.
00:41:59As round 7 begins
00:42:03to put into perspective the odds
00:42:05that Natshinga is up against
00:42:07and how improbable his run has been
00:42:10with those world title victories on the road
00:42:13according to a report by Times Live
00:42:16the largest online publication in South Africa
00:42:19last year in 2023
00:42:2185% of South African fighters
00:42:25who fought outside of the country
00:42:27came up on the losing end of those fights
00:42:30so for Natshinga to have done what he has done
00:42:33at the highest level at 108
00:42:36has been extraordinary
00:42:38and he's looking to do it once more here tonight.
00:42:42Yes, again, again!
00:42:47Natshinga looking a little busier here in round 7.
00:42:53Round 6 he was being harassed by his trainer
00:42:56Colin Nathan throughout the round
00:42:58the jab a little bit more.
00:43:04Stay there off to it, don't give him the distance.
00:43:08Yes, again, again, again!
00:43:10Corner wants him to just stay in the pocket.
00:43:14Again, not giving Yabuki the ability to step forward.
00:43:28Nice body shot there from Yabuki.
00:43:31Stay there, stay there.
00:43:36I think you might have seen Natshinga
00:43:38kind of tuck his elbow a little bit after that shot
00:43:41he might be feeling that left hook to the body
00:43:43and that has been a hallmark
00:43:47in Yabuki's career
00:43:49the ability to target the body
00:43:51and to throw damaging shots downstairs
00:43:53he hasn't found a route for those here tonight
00:43:57Long arms of Natshinga
00:43:59gives the ability to guard against those shots
00:44:01as he comes back with a nice right hand of his own to the body.
00:44:12Nice uppercut there from Natshinga
00:44:14just grazing the chin of Yabuki
00:44:16but Yabuki comes back with a left hook
00:44:18Natshinga rolled with it
00:44:20taking the steam off that shot.
00:44:27Natshinga trying to posture a little bit
00:44:29looking for offensive openings
00:44:31but his corner is reminding him
00:44:33about every five to ten seconds or so
00:44:35tight, tight.
00:44:39Trying to tighten up his defense
00:44:41as he lets go of another right hand.
00:44:46Natshinga's got the ball
00:44:48he's got the ball
00:44:50he's got the ball
00:44:52he's got the ball
00:44:54right hand
00:44:56in the closing moments of the round.
00:45:25Yabuki! Yabuki!
00:45:27Yabuki! Yabuki!
00:45:29Yabuki!
00:45:31Yabuki!
00:45:33Yabuki!
00:45:35Yabuki!
00:45:37Yabuki!
00:45:39Yabuki!
00:45:41Yabuki!
00:45:43Yabuki!
00:45:45Yabuki!
00:45:47Yabuki!
00:45:49Yabuki!
00:45:51Yabuki!
00:45:53Round 8!
00:45:55Yabuki!
00:45:57Yabuki!
00:45:59Yabuki!
00:46:01Round 8 begins
00:46:03Sivanadi Natshinga trying to hold on
00:46:06to his IBF light flyweight title
00:46:08Masamichi Yabuki hoping to become
00:46:11a two time world champion
00:46:13here tonight
00:46:15and it is a massive two week period
00:46:17for Yabuki and his family
00:46:19of course Yabuki's brother
00:46:21Masanori Rikishi
00:46:23is one of the best super featherweights
00:46:25in the world today
00:46:26he has a fight coming up next weekend
00:46:28at Korakuen Hall in Japan
00:46:33if you're wondering why he and his brother
00:46:35do not have the same last name
00:46:37well they do in real life
00:46:39but their fighting names
00:46:41and Rikishi respectively
00:46:43they're taken from the anime series
00:46:45from the manga Ashita no Joe
00:46:47two of the principal characters
00:46:49of that series
00:46:53they felt it would be a good
00:46:55marketing decision
00:46:57to change their names
00:47:11don't wait for one shot
00:47:16and the instructions from the Natshinga
00:47:18corner right now
00:47:19don't wait for one shot
00:47:21clearly reading between the lines here
00:47:23they want Natshinga to take the initiative
00:47:25they want him to stay tight defensively
00:47:27and move Yabuki back
00:47:29not to concede ground
00:47:31after a single shot
00:47:34let's go let's go
00:47:40one thing we haven't seen from either
00:47:42fighter yet which we have seen
00:47:44in the past
00:47:45neither fighter has really
00:47:47given in
00:47:49to the emotion to the tension
00:47:51of this fight quite yet
00:47:53both men
00:47:55have stayed quite composed
00:47:57they've stayed quite fundamental
00:47:59thus far
00:48:01I wonder if there will be a moment
00:48:07when either fighter or both fighters
00:48:09really start to open up
00:48:15doing that
00:48:21doing that has been a detriment
00:48:23for both fighters in the past
00:48:25it's also worked to their advantage
00:48:28we're seeing a
00:48:30high level, high power
00:48:32chess match
00:48:34mostly staged right in the center
00:48:36of the ring here tonight
00:48:38as Yabuki clobbers Natshinga
00:48:40with a big right hand
00:48:42and Natshinga turns away
00:48:44and lands on both knees
00:48:46on both knees
00:48:55that was the moment
00:48:57that Yabuki was waiting for
00:49:01what a way to close out round 8
00:49:17Natshinga, Natshinga, Natshinga
00:49:26Natshinga, Natshinga, Natshinga
00:49:35and we want to find out
00:49:37when the power
00:49:39and the vulnerability of either one
00:49:41of these fighters would show
00:49:43and there it is the right hand
00:49:45from Yabuki right over the top.
00:49:49And Nanshinga is very lucky
00:49:52that that knockdown happened when it did.
00:49:57He had about a minute to recover in the corner.
00:49:59How will he look coming out of the corner
00:50:02here for round nine?
00:50:06Nervous moments for Sivanadi Nanshinga.
00:50:11Can he recover from a blistering knockdown
00:50:14at the end of round eight?
00:50:16Nanshinga,
00:50:20Yabuki firing away on the inside.
00:50:23Starting to close the gap a little bit.
00:50:26Sensing that there could be a moment for him here.
00:50:28Nanshinga tries to step in with a left hook.
00:50:37Nanshinga corner screaming at him on the front foot.
00:50:40On the front foot.
00:50:42It's quite possible that his best defense in this moment is offense.
00:50:58Big left hook there from Yabuki, you saw the sweat and the spit fly.
00:51:02Does Yabuki have Natshenga in trouble again?
00:51:05Down he goes!
00:51:12One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
00:51:21The second knockdown of the fight.
00:51:26Natshenga leaking blood with half a round to go for Yabuki to work with.
00:51:34One of the most dangerous pure punchers in the lower weight classes is on the hunt.
00:51:43A teardrop of blood leaking down the face of Natshenga and that is it.
00:51:55Masamichi Yabuki is world champion once more.
00:52:12What a moment for Masamichi Yabuki.
00:52:21You saw the emotion on his daughter's face herself.
00:52:26Maybe a world champion in the coming years as well.
00:52:34And her dad has just set the blueprint.
00:52:39The 32-year-old Masamichi Yabuki, an age that is ancient in this weight territory,
00:52:50is now a two-time world champion.
00:52:57And heartbreak for the special one, Simonade Natshenga.
00:53:08The winner of Kyu Land 1 minute 50 seconds,
00:53:13the new IBF world light flyweight champion,
00:53:18Masamichi Yabuki!
00:53:29So Masamichi Yabuki is the new IBF light flyweight champion
00:53:35and as it stands, the only title holder at 108 pounds.
00:53:45This is a division that is in transition
00:53:50and a division that historically has given us parody and it has given us excitement
00:53:56and it delivered once again here tonight in Japan.
00:54:01A brand new world champion, Masamichi Yabuki,
00:54:06kicking off a colossal weekend of boxing.
00:54:12An emotional moment for Yabuki, for his family,
00:54:17and for the Japanese boxing community.
00:54:24What a win for Yabuki and what a pleasure it was to call that one here this morning
00:54:29for all of you.
00:54:31We thank everyone for tuning in around the world.
00:54:35I'm Corey Erdman saying so long and we'll see you at the fights.

00:57:52What did you think of the match?
00:57:55He's a real champion, so I prepared myself for it.
00:58:00It was a few months of motivation.
00:58:06What did you expect the match to be like?
00:58:10I thought it would be a really difficult match.
00:58:13To be honest, I thought I'd be retired if I lost.
00:58:16I'm glad I can continue boxing now.
00:58:20How did it feel to actually fight?
00:58:24The trainer, Takizawa Suguru, gave me a lot of advice.
00:58:29I was able to prepare for the match with high expectations.
00:58:37You put a lot of pressure on him today.
00:58:41How did you feel when you fought him?
00:58:43He's a strong fighter in the first half,
00:58:46so I didn't want him to take the initiative in the first half.
00:58:49I decided to go for it in the second half.
00:58:53How did you feel about the knockout punch?
00:58:58I felt it.
00:59:01Now you're back as a champion.
00:59:04However, there were a lot of trials.
00:59:09What was your support like?

00:59:29You were able to win the championship with your family.
00:59:34Last month, your kids won the junior championship.
00:59:41Wasn't that a big help?
00:59:44That's right. It was 10 days before the match.
00:59:47They were able to win the championship.
00:59:51It was a big help.
