00:00Well, that was race one just a little earlier this afternoon as you could see fast and furious and I think the paperwork's been hell
00:06In the Ford camp since now you join us live at Alton Park now for race two
00:11This is the longer feature race which include pit stops as we saw there in race one
00:15Really Anthony Reid and Gabriele Tarquini with the class of the field
00:18They've disappeared off from everybody else now
00:20The tables have been turned a bit because old Tarquini over here has got pole position now Gabriele
00:26You're in pole position, but to be really blunt
00:28We've seen you take off from pole before and fall off on the first lap. We've got to keep it neat. Yeah
00:32Yeah, it's sure that it's the best place to be before the start and I need just to take a start
00:38Like in the first race was wasn't really bad
00:41So to save my my leader and to continue and a nice cool calm opening lap. Yeah, it's sure
00:48With very cold tire where we use without warmer. It's really difficult to control the car
00:53Sometimes you lock sometimes you have oversteering. Well, you're really quick great to have you on the front row. Enjoy. Thank you
00:59Cheers now the man he has to beat the man that's right behind him as Anthony Reid
01:04In the Ford out of the way fat so he comes Anthony Reid in the Ford now
01:08Last time around you were in head ahead of Gabriele Tarquini. You were both really quick
01:12What's the strategy going to be because you're not vying with the championship with him? Well, I'm not but you know
01:18I've already acquired 40 kilos of ballast. Whatever happens now. I'm gonna carry 40 kilos of ballast at Silverstone
01:24So I've got to make the second race work for me
01:26I've got to score as many points as I can win or bust or prudence bit of prudence
01:30But if I you know, I think I might have the pace to win. I don't see why not
01:34I was fairly comfortable in that first race. Well, congratulations
01:37I can tell you Anthony Reid is now a championship leader
01:40Courtesy of that fabulous race one win and he is ahead of Alan Menuhin now lots of damage inflicted to Ricard Rydell's car
01:46By the way, here's Vincent Rademacher in the box all as we pass him
01:49He's having a very good run. Pardon my back
01:51Now Ricard Rydell had that great big crash with Alan Menuhin on the start line
01:55Now just have a look at the work that they've done on this car wreck the front suspension wreck the rear suspension
02:00You couldn't see brand new wing all new front suspension under there a new front bumper as well new doors
02:06Excuse me guys
02:07New rear door all there is is just the trace of the scrape where he hit the pit wall and that's new suspension under the rear
02:14As well, these guys have been as busy as you like in the last couple of hours
02:19James Thompson in the Honda getting ready. He's a very good starter on row four
02:24Alan menu is in the Ford and he's sitting in there ready to rock so we won't go and interrupt him now
02:31Although interestingly he said before the last race. He didn't want to finish on the podium and pick up ballast for the last race
02:36So if that's the case
02:37We might see Alan actually playing a little bit cute and hanging back and staying off the podium for this race
02:43Jason Plato and then Matt Neil who didn't qualify well here near the back of the field now at the back of the field behind
02:50Us we've got the class B runners
02:52It's a huge field of class B cars this time around stunning stuff
02:56Really really good variety of cars and this is actually much more the way class B
03:00And in fact touring cars are going to run next year and our man mark Fogarty. Well, he's been having a look
03:07You're looking at the future of the British touring car championship next year
03:11We'll see a new breed of touring cars based on sportier and in some cases slightly smaller models
03:16These are the road going versions of the sorts of cars. We might be seeing on the touring car grid in
03:212001
03:23Here's one car that will definitely be on the grid the Vauxhall Astra coupe
03:27There's a strong possibility
03:28Peugeot will return and Rover is looking at racing a new MG Sports Saloon the new organizers of the championship expect much bigger fields
03:36We're hoping for grids in excess of 21 cars next year, which is an improvement on the grids this year
03:43The technical regulations that we're working on for 2001 will allow for much closer
03:49Bumper-to-bumper on-track action because essentially all the cars will have the same output
03:55The cars will be cheaper to make easier to build
03:59more affordable by the average
04:02team come manufacturer because
04:05BTCC at the moment has got too technical. It's got too expensive and
04:09We needed to cut those costs and with the new regulations
04:13We've we've able to achieve that and I think next year you'll see more cars on the grid more exciting 30 cars
04:20and closer racing as a driver
04:23We all want quicker cars
04:24But I'd rather have a slower car and 10 cars to race against that are as quick as me then have
04:31You know quicker cars only five to race against it's going to be better. It's going to be closer one of the
04:36Goal for the new rules is to make braking distances a bit longer
04:41So that should make the racing more interesting because as it is now with the wings
04:45We are breaking very very late and it's it's not like f1, but it makes harder to overtake on the braking
04:51So next year, I think you know
04:54If like a corner around Alton Park where we would break at the hundred meter board next year
04:59We might have to break at 130. So you've got more scope to overtake the car in front
05:03So the racing should be more interesting one thing's for sure the people behind
05:07Next year's championship BMP and all the manufacturers are getting involved. We'll do a good job
05:12You know, it's too important for them to get it wrong
05:16So lots of opinion a lot still unknown
05:18But one thing is for sure the new look British touring car championship won't be dull
05:23And this is the future of British touring car championship racing
05:26We're looking at the class B cars as may now go through the field up to the super tourers
05:30And certainly I look forward to seeing some very new cars and certainly unusual shapes
05:34certainly things like the Astra coupe as opposed to the
05:38Traditional British touring cars, which we've been watching for many years, which are four-door sedans
05:43Green flags wave the cars are setting off for their two laps prior to taking the start of this 30 lap feature race
05:50And pit stop window this afternoon will be between laps 5 and lap 21 in a 70.8 mile event
06:00Well, there's Rickard Rydell's car
06:03Not as good as I thought it's quite a good jog up those stairs at Rickard Rydell's car there
06:07It's astonishing the work they've done to that thing. I hope it's steering straight. They've worked very hard on it
06:11But apparently the undercar damage to that Ford was extreme. They were very surprised by how bad it really was
06:16Well, and you bike concrete at the speed
06:18I mean Rickard maybe hit the wall at 45 50 miles an hour
06:21And it's sort of he got wedged in because Menuhin was shoving him from behind. I'm not surprised
06:26There's a lot of damage
06:27But a great testament to the guys at Prodrive who prepare these cars on behalf of Ford to get them back out on them
06:33Get Rickard here. We see him back into the field this afternoon
06:37What do you reckon he's thinking now?
06:39Well, I think he's thinking I'm ahead of Alain by two places this time
06:43So I might be able to enact the same maneuver, but not get tagged by my own teammate. Oh, you're a cynic
06:49Rickard Rydell, it's probably too late to rescue the champ. Nothing is impossible
06:53I have to say, but he's now given himself an extremely steep hill to climb and as I mentioned down on the grid there
06:59Of course Anthony Reid on points is now the championship leader
07:02Although because you have to drop some scores in the in the rather complex system of touring car points scoring
07:07His lead isn't as handy as it looks but as we sit here
07:10He is now the championship leader and what he has to do because they do drop scores
07:13It's of course trying to get another monster of a score now and then drop a lower score that he earned earlier in the year
07:19Yes, and of course the penalty for that will be at Silverstone next weekend is that he's gonna have to carry weight penalty
07:25He's not playing any here this afternoon and that's going to help him and Gavini and Tarquini
07:29They both are running without weight. Whereas everybody else behind will be carrying some if not more
07:35There is the man in the office
07:38Having a think about things great view there of the driving position
07:42And how close they sit to the wheel and that big sequential gear lever they have to use nothing like a road car
07:46No, it's not. It's a pretty chunky a little bit of gear lever
07:49The reason the drivers sit so close though is that it enables them to get better leverage if you sort of adopt
07:55Maybe a more laid-back position
07:56You would be putting a lot of strain onto your forearms and your wrists
07:59You want to use the power of your upper body your shoulder your biceps your chest and that's where you get stamina
08:04That's where you get the power and a lot of it's very hot in that car as well, by the way mildish day
08:10But gets very warm in the cockpit. Yeah, it is and it's very humid down there at the moment
08:14It feels as though it could rain but I'm a rubbish weather forecaster
08:18Championship positions after round 21 as I said before we take drop scores into account
08:23Anthony Reid is now our series leader and I'm a new picked up some points and is in second position
08:28Ricard Rydell full-on no points at all from race one and the gap is opening up
08:32In fact, Yvonne Muller is now breathing down his neck a little bit because Yvonne
08:37Quite a clever can he play up picked up some points in race one there and has closed the gap and Jason Pato his teammates
08:43in fifth position
08:45Had a frustrating race
08:47When the drop scores are taken into account
08:50LM and you would still just be a nose in front, but it is not done by a long way
08:55No, it's not one would have to think that all the owners is really on Anthony
08:59Reid this afternoon to repeat what he did earlier in the day and get another 15 points to give him as many
09:06maximum possible scores in any of the
09:08Rounds this season so as the ones that he does have to drop are not high numbers and
09:12He's got a couple of ones where he can afford to but it's tight and it'll be resolved probably in the night at Silverstone
09:18Yeah, I think you're probably right. There's our grid Tarquini and Reid front row
09:21We saw that Radomak a lovely qualify from him Ricard Rydell alongside
09:26Next row James Thompson and then menu important to point out the Ricard out qualified LM menu here
09:31That's significant then Yvonne Muller seventh alongside his teammate Jason Plato
09:35Matt Neal the independent in ninth and Tom Christensen 10th Tom is very quick around here now
09:40He's a guy to watch because Christensen crashed during qualifying which is why he hasn't qualified very well stuck down the back of the grid
09:47I wouldn't mind betting he'll go for a very very early pit stop and let this traffic go. What do you think?
09:51I think it's a good possibility. I mean, he's gonna get bogged down
09:54Trying to get through remember Christensen won the feature race here in May so he knows his way around Dalton Park
10:00He likes the circuit and he's quick here
10:02But starting from where he is all the way down in 10th place in the grid. It is a mountain to climb
10:07You can just see our bright green Peugeot 306 is our class B runners Dan Eaves the first of those who's out qualified
10:14Alan Morrison in the second one and Alan Morrison, of course is the class B championship leader. There is Eaves
10:19There's Morrison and behind him Harrison in the white Ford Focus now Morrison in that second Peugeot is
10:26In pretty good shape to take out this championship in the class B
10:30And in fact might even do it this weekend. And of course, he is principal competitor and that championship is James Kay
10:37James had again a disaster in qualifying starts on the back of the grid as he did in the sprint race
10:42so his championship hopes are going to be very much dependent on
10:45Really whether he can get through the field and get close to Morrison to have a go
10:50Tarquini now
10:52I joked with him on the grid, but it has been a problem for Gabriele stunningly fast
10:57But at least once this year he's thrown it off from a position of being in the lead having started in pole position
11:03He must hang it together
11:08Just see that very big grid now forming up as you can see the camera angle proves that there's it's an undulating circuit
11:14And there's quite a bit of a hill to climb over just after the start
11:18Just the white Ford Focus there of Simon Harrison the class B runner just pulling in the rest of those cars
11:24Just compressing getting ready while the front boys still wait
11:28James Kay in one of the class B Honda Accords his teammate Mark Lemmer alongside
11:33All looks to be in order though. Yes, but remember what Menuh said
11:36It's a fairly narrow pit straight that does funnel into Old Hall as they funnel over the hill for the first time through Cascades
11:43And Menuh looking pretty strong there. Rydell though has slipped back. That's not a good start from him
11:48No, it's not. He lost two places to his teammate and Menuh now challenging Thompson to make it up the third place
11:53Okay, has got him. Yes, he has Tom made one place
11:56But of course, it's very close this opening lap
11:58But it'll all come down to the decision of the teams
12:00Are they going to stop early and take advantage of trying to get back on a clear track and run on Azera Towers for distance?
12:06Or go a longer distance on your first set. Nice start from Tarquini got his tail up now. Have a look here
12:12We've got
12:13Muller in one of the Vauxhalls just fainting a pass
12:15See if he could get passed down and Menuh couldn't do it. Matt Neal now fighting back with Christensen
12:20At the back end of this group and across the strike for the first time
12:24Everyone through cleanly. That's good news
12:30Round through Old Hall corner carrying a lot of speed there. There's Vauxhalls. There's quite a bit of shuffling back in the pack there
12:36But at the front it's Tarquini
12:38Three very much in touch James Thompson will be pleased with that as we see two Vauxhalls going side by side
12:43It was just Rademacher just sliding down the inside of Jason Plato as they went down cascades. That's gutsy stuff fast part of the track
12:49It is a fast part. Rademacher another driver who really enjoys this racetrack, but you're fighting your own teammate
12:54There's another competitor or more out there. You should be worried about more. Well Rademacher of course qualified extremely well here
13:00He got shuffled back early on in the order because he was on the second row of the grid
13:04So now he's got all the work to do
13:06Life looked a lot better for him as Matt Neal moves to the inside to try to get Christensen
13:10Christensen goes all the way over to the grass to head him off and then pulls back again. That's firm from the Dane
13:15Yes, but he's learning he came here somewhat green in terms of British touring car racing
13:19He's had a few shunts a few tough lessons. That was a tough lesson for Matt Neal. Yeah, indeed
13:24It's fair to say old Christensen had his ears boxed well and truly a few times in fact Matt Neal and he tangled in the
13:30Opening round which we telecast live back at Browns Hatch and they both finished off in the gravel
13:34so in fact
13:36Tom's probably got a few scores to settle as we get near the end of the championship
13:40No love lost between him and a few of them
13:42He's got a couple of old rivals Matt Neal behind him and Jason Plato in front of him
13:46Not a comfortable position for Tom Christensen in that red and white Honda to be in
13:51Now I don't know what happened to Rademacher. He obviously had quite a moment going down the hill there
13:56He just got he just fell back to the pack
13:57I don't know whether there was any contact at all
13:59But he had a bad start because he qualified so well here started on the second row of the grid
14:03Which was really something for him
14:06Well as the Class A cars filter down through Cascades looking at Class B
14:09The leader is Alan Morrison, but it's Gareth Howell and the Ford Focus in second place
14:14Dan Eaves who was alongside Morrison on the grid. He's all the way down to 20th place
14:21A very wide line there from Jason Plato
14:24In the third of the Vauxhalls down through the hairpin now
14:27Just look at that gap Gabriele Tarquini has already started to open up as we come down towards Nickerbrook
14:32Then Anthony Reid then Thompson then Menuh then Muller then Ricard Bridell who is having an afternoon
14:38He'd rather forget he was ahead of his teammate now
14:40He's behind him and he slipped way way down the order into sixth position. It's very frustrating for him
14:46Nothing in the performance of these cars as they go back up Clay Hildo a steep part of the circuit
14:51Which follows that very tight chicane horsepower important all of them hanging on pretty closely to each other
14:56Yeah, so we saw in the sprint race where Menuh really was holding up a gaggle of five cars
15:00That isn't the case that just shows how close everybody around Dalton Park is with the exception of Reid and Tarquini who are way
15:06Out front and have gone now
15:08That's a lot to do with the fact that they are carrying no ballast
15:12The Ford is fast and we know that the Honda's got heaps of horsepower as well
15:15But in spite of that, they're not carrying ballast and that's an enormous help around here
15:20They're really really on it. They're working as hard as you like both
15:23Tarquini and Reid running very wide there in the entrance to Old Hall the exit to Old Hall
15:28Now I don't know what fluid is falling out of the back of Tarquini's car, but that would be very alarming for Anthony Reid
15:34it certainly was I don't know what it was coming out of the right rear of the Honda and
15:38Clearly Reid would have seen it. We'll have a look to see if we can see it
15:41It may be on the left-hand corners, but something clearly was exiting the back of this car
15:45Yeah, if you're if you're that close and you're trying to hang on to a lead in the championship
15:49You don't want to be getting tangled up with it. But even so Tarquini is setting a blistering pace so far
15:55Really really quick stuff. It's opened up more than a second gap already
15:58Over Anthony Reid and while he's got clear air and no traffic to left. This is the time to make hay
16:04Back up the hill again
16:05And I just wonder Reid would have seen that as well as we saw it on screen as he's just thinking maybe the problem with
16:10The Honda is as you say, I don't want to go too close to him
16:13It's going to be a mechanical problem or if I say something I water a leak from a radiator or a hose
16:18I want to stay off that
16:19Yeah
16:20It does not need that at all and there's already a comfortable gap for Anthony Reid back to third placeman James Thompson in the second
16:25Of those Hondas so there's just a little bit of breathing space for him
16:28Reid at the moment can set his own pace fair to say Tarquini's not holding him up and he's not having to defend either
16:34So at the moment things are looking pretty pretty sweet for him and the lap times between the two of them are extremely close
16:40His last lap was
16:4224.2 as was Tarquini nothing in it
16:45Just thinking what Anthony Reid might be thinking. We've got 30 laps here. We're going to make pitstop
16:50We've seen Ford at France hatch two weekends ago made those absolutely incredible pitstops
16:554.16 seconds
16:56He can do his overtaking in the pit lane and that's not what motor racing is all about
17:00But it is a part of this feature event
17:02You can do it in the pit lane or you can do it on the racetrack
17:05Great to see Tarquini leaning. You remember he is a former champion
17:08He has won this series before way back when he drove for Alfa Romeo
17:12Blisteringly fast driver. He's had some exposure to Formula One as well. He's he's no slouch, but he just has not banked results
17:18I think he's been suffering along with Thompson and Christensen to some degree that
17:22Honda has not been as consistent over the course of the season as you've seen from Ford in particular and
17:29The JAS Honda team a factory Honda team an Italian run have sometimes gone their own way in particular developments
17:35And that's helped them in certain areas. But overall they seem to be lacking an outside performance
17:41If you were Anthony Reid
17:42What would you be doing now trying to pace the car a little bit or really really trying to?
17:46To challenge to get past Tarquini because he needs to be close enough to Tarquini to try to get some advantage during the pitstop
17:52Doesn't he because after all Ford I think it's fair to say are the guys to beat when it comes to changing tires
17:57Yes, they are. But I would think he's about a second and a half just behind at 1.7 1.57 1 seconds
18:03I mean if he gets any closer
18:04It then gets into the area where he's having to focus too much on what Tarquini is doing instead of just driving very comfortably
18:11And I think that when they come near to their time to come in for the pitstops
18:14That way you'll see a little spurt to bring him up to the back of Tarquini assuming that's Tarquini himself
18:19Hasn't gone in for his tires
18:22Fast right-hander down through cascades again and once again a faint spray of liquid out of the back of
18:28Tarquini's car maybe a fuel breather or something like that, but
18:32And if anything, I think Anthony Reid's just a tiny bit closer now, so maybe he's resolved that it's nothing that's going to bother him in fact
18:40Anthony Reid coming back down the hill now towards the chicane
18:43I think is clearly a bit closer to Tarquini than he was half a lap ago
18:47After that chicane, this is a very steep hill and they climb up now Clay Hill
18:51All the way up through the gears. They reach top gear as they fly up around that part of the circuit
18:57On tippy toes around there, and then this double apex right-hander, which they're still going through in fifth gear most of them
19:03I think it's a very very fast right-hander isn't it?
19:05It is a fast corner, but it's one of those corners that when you're a racing driver you really appreciate
19:10And you get the car in you just get it in make one apex don't go too fast
19:14And you get the car in you just get it in make one apex don't go too wide out to the left keep back for the second apex
19:20But then as you exit the corner the car goes light over the crest and when a car really works well here
19:25There's somebody in the pits, Thompson. Yeah, Thompson and one of the Vauxhalls as well has followed in
19:30I think that was Muller couldn't quite see but I think Muller darted in. Yes, indeed
19:34It was so the first pit stop drag. Yes, indeed
19:36And it's Vauxhall again early in the pits followed in fact or led in by James Thompson
19:40There we go, well a slightly poor stop Vauxhall didn't quite get it right the clutch was released the car wasn't down
19:48Thompson gets out just ahead of Muller. Yeah, that was important for James because he was right up there
19:53In fact, as I said, I thought it'd be Christensen
19:55who would try to dive in first but Thompson who was in clear air on his own has still opted to go in early
20:00I'm a bit puzzled by that because he wasn't being held up
20:02He was running strongly again. He's another one of the cars in the leading group that is running without ballast
20:07So whether Thompson felt that it was the opportune time to do it now and then focus on the remaining laps
20:12We've got another 23 laps to go
20:14It's a long way in one set of tires
20:16Yeah, it's an odd strategy though because he had clear air in front of him and he wasn't defending from behind. So
20:21if I
20:22Far be it for me
20:23But I'd have thought just staying out there for a while and keeping those tires fresh would have been the way forwards
20:28And now he's got Ivan Muller all over him and that has closed the gap between those two and Muller is really giving him something
20:33To deal with now
20:34Yes, Muller at the end of the day came away better from the series of pit stops than Thompson did
20:39Thompson wasn't really under threat from Muller. He is now and of course for Muller to be in
20:44Close proximity to Thompson is only going to inspire him to do
20:47What we saw happen a little bit earlier in the sprint race when that battle with Menuhas going on down at large corner
20:53Indeed. Well, Ivan Muller is looking pretty rapid and his pacing is up now more in Ricard Rydell in and that's Jason Plato
20:59As well. So another head-to-head Vauxhall to Ford this time
21:03And I think Ricard Rydell is just a bit of practice for the Ford team
21:06Before they bring Anthony Reed in in particular or Alan Menuhas a good stop
21:11And Vauxhall again. Oh very close in the pit lane now
21:14And a very very forceful pass there if you like in the pit lane by Jason Plato
21:18There was almost contact Ricard Rydell would be well sick of that pit wall by now. He's almost hit both sides of it
21:24and very big traffic indeed because James Thompson there just weaving down the inside that was
21:29Plato and Rydell coming out of the pits and Thompson and Muller who have
21:33a lap ahead of them because they pitted uh
21:35Already getting very very tangled up on themselves
21:37Now the three abreast down the back straight Rydell in the yellow and blue Ford Thompson alongside
21:42Ivan Muller jumping up and down. Let me through let me through
21:44Rydell is getting a shunt in the back from Muller. Muller now cuts to the inside
21:48Rydell is getting sandwiched by the pair of them. What an afternoon. Just let me alone guys
21:52Is it giving me a headache? Three abreast down the hill
21:54We've got a chicane to come up Jason Plato in the foreground then James Thompson
21:58Then a Muller on the left and Rydell behind there's the view from Rydell's car and he really lost out there
22:04Well, there's your answer to why it made those early pit stops. It has benefited some and it's hindered others
22:09But Ricard Rydell really it's not been his weekend so far
22:11He's just backed out of it in effect and he's going through the motions. He must feel as though
22:16He's dropped 20 quid and picked up sixpence
22:18Everything is going south for him
22:22So now
22:24We perch on Ricard Rydell's bonnet as we see Alain Meunier come into the pits and this is a very important stop
22:30So, let's see what the clock says for Alain Meunier 3.8, I can't believe it
22:34I've never seen something as fast as that in the two years
22:37We've had pit stops and touring cars and here comes the cavalry John
22:40You can see Meunier filing out of the pits and you can see the rest of the field coming around
22:45And Meunier out in front. That is a blistering stop
22:49Tremendous work by the Ford team get Meunier right up into contention with teammate Anthony Reed
22:54Now we wait to see what Reed does. He has yet to come in as has Tarquini
22:57But if they can do any better than 3.8 seconds, well, that's what they're going to have to do to keep Reed basically
23:03ahead of Meunier
23:03Well, there it is
23:04There's the shuffle Alain Meunier in the foreground all of this gaggle of cars as we see there
23:09A lunge down the inside of James Thompson by Ivan Muller and Muller has done it to slip through down the inside
23:15Ricard Rydell at the back of that group. There's Rademacher in the first of the voxels
23:19Then there's Muller then there's James Thompson James just seeding a place. So it's Meunier in the foreground then Plato
23:25then Rademacher
23:26Then Muller then James Thompson trying to get that spot back and the big red and white Honda just trying to fight through
23:31Couldn't do it, but all of those cars had pitted and all of them are behind Alain Meunier
23:36I think there's going to be a lot of very surprised people
23:38The way this has shuffled out after these pit stops early in the race is not what we had expected
23:43Tarquini race leader is in now. This is very very very important because
23:49Tarquini needs to come out ahead of that gaggle. But more importantly we need to see and there's a lot of wheel spin there
23:53Yes, he did. He buried the throttle
23:55He got wheel spin get a bit of temperature in the tyre
23:57But then you've got to slow down over that white line then you can accelerate and get up to race speed
24:02Well, no problem about his lead
24:03We just saw the rest of the field way in the distance as Tarquini goes out again
24:07All on his own the one man, of course
24:09He's mucho worried about still as Anthony Reid because he's not pitted. He's sitting out there
24:14And banging away the laps, but this is ideal for Tarquini because he's made his pit stop and clear track now
24:21He'll have to push on this outlap though, yes
24:23That's why he got those tyres lit up as the car came down off the jacks
24:27He must get heated as quickly as possible
24:29To ensure that this outlap he can maximize his lap time
24:34Push as hard as he can
24:37Class B runners now just starting to come into contention here. There's Anthony Reid
24:41You can see that green stripe under the name on the side window of his car
24:45That shows shows us that he has not pitted once he pits one of the things that the the crew has to do is
24:50has whipped that stick off
24:52and
24:55Both sides under
24:56The name so that we know that he's pitted and if they don't do it, he's got to pit again now
25:01Anytime now. Yes, he's peeling off to the right
25:03Yes, he's peeling off to the right
25:05This will make or break the race
25:08We saw 3.8 second stop for team Ed Meunier
25:11for team absolutely
25:13fantastic here this afternoon
25:18Wheels off
25:21Oh second and a half slower for Reid
25:24It's not enough to put Meunier into contention, but it's certainly going to give it
25:27But there goes Tarquini in the foreground. That's the problem for Anthony Reid. There's the rest of the field
25:32And i'm sure he'll make it out ahead of those mark lemmer in the class b accord
25:37Anthony reid has pulled out the rest of the field are behind but Gabriele Tarquini
25:41thanks to a great stop by the jazz honda team has
25:45If anything opened up a lead. Yes, he has
25:48Here's the man great stop. Anthony Reid will be disappointed his second and a half slower than his teammate
25:53And that's putting them they're going to get closer to him. Once they see him. They will be hunting him down
25:58Headlights ablaze Gabriele Tarquini to let the
26:02Thank you. Pardon. Let the rest of the field know there's dan eaves in the class b
26:07Pozo 306 just pulling to one side now down the hill
26:10You can see that the impact of that stop if you like just look at anthony reid in the ford then annamenu in the ford
26:15much closer now
26:16And Vincent Rademacher once again squirming under brakes. I'm very uncomfortable as a spectator watching the setup on that car. We commented
26:24About it in race one, but he really really works under brakes james thompson
26:27They're having a mix-up of the class b accord weaving one way flicking back the other that's costing time
26:33Yes, but james thompson fairly well done the field in eighth place and really a battle with vincent rademacher
26:38I can't think he's going to leave here feeling terribly happy
26:41No, indeed ridell just slithering through the inside there of mark lemmer in the class b accord and christensen right behind ridell now
26:48As we come down
26:50Into lodge corner ridell moves to cover back up and over the strike there
26:53There's second place man. Anthony reid championship leader
26:56The man behind him is alan menu who was championship leader when we when he woke up this morning and jason plato right behind him
27:02This race order has been stood on its ear by these pit stops and it ain't over yet coming over the hill
27:07There's a class b. Peugeot ahead of us. Yes, alan morrison, but for anthony reid
27:11He had to take an easy lap, but he didn't get the speed and that outlap for those new front tires
27:15Menu had that one lap under his belt. He had his momentum and he's now right on the boot lid
27:20Although teammate anthony reid down into the hairpin reid defends menu looks to pass
27:26Plato tucks in behind
27:30Back up and over the hill jason plato there
27:34Moving down towards now. Here's a great view from jason plato's car
27:38Plato right on the boot lid of menu
27:40Sorry right in the boot lid of menu. Oh and menu is off and wide
27:44What's happened menu's cut around the other side of the nick of brook chicane? Yeah, but he had no option
27:48He hit so hard from behind. He couldn't turn. He just got punted across. So I don't think there'd be any penalty
27:54For menu on that particular one
27:57Jason plato outbraking himself there and uh, leaving a little headbutt mark on the back of alan menu's car
28:05Nothing deliberate i'm sure but uh
28:07Plato obviously having the wit as well not to jump past and try to pass menu and in doing so giving himself problems
28:13Speaking of problems. There's muller just slipping past the inside of howell in the class b
28:18Forward focus getting through cleanly. Yes. He does. There's jason plato lead voxel behind him is ivan muller
28:24Now into laud's corner reid menu just sliding past james k in the class b accord james running very strongly there second place in class b
28:32Jason plato staying with him and getting through as well class b runners nice driving their guys making room. That's good. Then muller right behind
28:40Feeding over the back. This is getting very very busy indeed
28:46Now antony reid this is not part of the plan at all
28:48He had a comfortable gap before all this pit stop nonsense started now. He's thinking to himself. I have my arch rival championship
28:54fire and
28:56The man that wants to have me off the track most right behind me and that's not good
28:59Look at antony reid now coming down the track. That's a defensive line. He's in the middle of the track
29:03There's your race order because matt neil hasn't pitted yet
29:06That's why he's leading the independent man from tarquini in second position
29:09Once matt pulls in he will resume his normal order. There's vincent rademacher. He's going very well
29:15Although he did lose out very much
29:18From the start of the race where he had such a fabulous pit stop
29:20But this is a close race all teammates alan menu and jason plato menu in the ford
29:25Plato in the box all their former teammates. They've already been contact
29:29Plato's got nothing to lose and he's trying very hard
29:31He ran himself wide there through that double apex left hander onto the grass did well to save it
29:36He certainly did but of course he's having a car that may well be damaged
29:40That was a big hit he's hit in the back of alan menu
29:43Run wide coming out of druids. That's going to be the part of the problem
29:46In front of the car you can see his damage that will affect the aerodynamics of the car how the car handles
29:51But menu now beginning to lose contact with reid the advantage of that lower weight for anthony reid beginning to tell
29:58Yeah, plato very very much in the thick of it this afternoon the lead voxel so far
30:03I just had a lunge a moment to go into the hairpin and behind muller
30:06Of course rademacher thinks I really need to get something out of today. I want to show everybody else
30:10I'm, not the third driver in voxel. I'm as quickest. I'm as quick as my two teammates
30:15So those three are running very close together
30:18And how long will it be before jason plato just happens to run wide in the corner and by coincidence?
30:23His teammate evan muller will be there to take advantage
30:26Yeah, evan muller if there was ever anybody to pounce on an opportunity, it's him
30:31Plato opening up a bit of a gap there
30:33There's matt neal as I said, he was our race leader because he had not fitted now
30:36He's in the last of the class a runners
30:40Changing front tires
30:42So we see how matt neal can fire a difficult weekend and qualifying that engine misfire affecting the car
30:48And the qualifying for this feature race and the two get out of the qualifying for the sprint race
30:51But look he's coming in basically behind the two hundreds only ricard ridell will be behind him
30:57Yeah, he won't be pleased with that at all and he's now got
30:59That frustrating first lap that they all talk about when they've changed two of the tires and the car handles badly
31:05As you can see matt neal. They're not even going down on the proper racing line through cascades
31:10Just getting the feel of his car
31:12now
31:14Alan menu there with three voxels behind
31:19Plato first
31:22There's reid there's menu now reid is getting a slightly comfortable gap over those
31:28that ford and those
31:29three marauding voxels
31:33Twisting and turning left to right as they go through that chicane very very tough on the car
31:39I think anthony reid really
31:41Didn't didn't react to the pressure of menu being so close to him. He knew he had to be careful in that outline
31:46He knew he must not try and put bigger time between himself and menu on the opening lap
31:51All he had to do was make sure menu didn't get close enough to pounce
31:54But now he's got his tires up to temperature. He's been able to pull away. But look once again later locks it up just behind menu
32:02Yeah, plato's really really working hard now
32:05He can sense he can make a name for himself here lmn
32:07He doesn't want it made at his expense because he's chasing championship points chasing plato for all intents and purposes
32:13He's out of the hunt
32:14Just checking at the lap 15 point tarquini in the lead in the honda a comfy lead
32:18Look at that seven seconds ahead of anthony reid in second place
32:21Read just ahead of menu reid knows that and so do we because we can see it
32:25Then plato right behind menu evan muller as close as that as well and then rademacher. So it's honda ford
32:32Ford
32:33And then that great big pack of voxels bearing down on a lot of them through that hairpin
32:39All the way down from sixth gear to first to get through there
32:41And it looked there as though jason plato was starting to have a real lunge at the back of menu's car
32:46That's keeping menu busy. There he is menu's moving to the center of the track. There's the view back from his car
32:51He's working down into nick of rook chicane comes plato
32:55and he's thinking about touching him, but he doesn't but
32:59Menu is that close and there's the view forwards
33:02And that view believe me
33:03It's a lot closer than it looks alan
33:05And you will not want to see the red white voxel of jason plato so close to the boot of his car
33:10He spells at once going into the chicane. That's enough
33:14Pretty terrifying photo of uh, jason plato. Actually, he looked quite startled
33:18Yeah, but I think alan menu's probably feeling a bit startled because coming through truett
33:21You could see the car was oversteering now. That's something you don't ordinarily see him and do these days. It's so good
33:27The car is so well balanced. That's an indication that maybe menu is struggling now
33:32Whereas this is giving inspiration to plato to push him hard or get that situation to develop where those tires aren't even quicker
33:38Yeah, he's really really being worked hard there
33:41as you can see all of them using all of the curb and a bit more running past the edge of the curb onto the
33:46the rough end of the grass
33:47down the cascades
33:49Slightly off balance off camber
33:52fast fast part of the track
33:55Up into the next gear then top and then when he stands on the brakes
34:00All the way down through the gearbox to first gear and look at that plato on board with him
34:05He's trying to tuck down the inside into the hairpin. Is he is he close enough?
34:08He's getting into the toe a little bit more horsepower from the ford as we go up and over the hill
34:13The voxel just hasn't quantified the legs. What can he do on the brakes? We've got to turn right in a minute
34:17Standing on the brakes cutting back. Well with any closer. It can't be using all of the curb
34:23Menu just holding him off menu's got a problem
34:26He ran wide in the hairpin bend that gave plato
34:28In fact muller and rademacher the more so and I think the team are going to say very shortly
34:32Jason, let muller go because he's got a chance both in the championship and also in this race to get past alan menu
34:39Well plato is working hard once again kicking up the dust using more track than exists
34:45In his battle to try to stay in touch with and get past menu and in doing so he's now falling back a bit
34:49Tarquini reed and then once again running wide. This is like a set of qualifying laps
34:54I reckon he's got a problem with the tire somehow or other that set of tires is not working as well for alan menu
34:59As we've seen an ordinary other thing is that but the dump that he got up the back
35:03Again has affected the back of the car
35:05Well plato the front of his car looking a little bit second hand from having nerfed the back of menu's car
35:10Is closing up again as they come out
35:12And he looks pretty good jason plato out of that chicane out of the hairpin rather than down into the chicane
35:17Menu's just got enough power
35:20To the front of that box on the very second hand not enough to affect its handling I guess but it's uh
35:25Just crimped down at the front
35:27the see-sawing power differential between the two of them, there's just enough squirt in that ford, but the
35:32Vauxhall is really handling. Well, we lost vincent rademacher. He suddenly has disappeared
35:36I think I saw a very spooky car just because behind that you've got christiansen. So what one voxel is out? Yeah, well
35:44Maybe there was a rush of blood. They've all been driving at 11 tenths for the last few laps. Yeah, you're right
35:48No sign of rademacher must have pulled off plato and mull in the meantime
35:51There's christiansen now was that oil that went down from from rademacher's car or something? He's gone off
35:57I think that's a true as we wait to see ironically
35:59It's a vector sign if it was the oil from the voxel. How ironic can you get ever an eye for marketing? What he that is?
36:06Buried in the tire wall. They're talking to tom. I'm sure he's fine. That is the double apex right hander
36:13Druids it's a fast old corner and that is about the time where you saw rademacher disappear from screen
36:18I don't know if those events are connected
36:19They may be by the look of the gesture there from christiansen. What are you doing?
36:23That means that rademacher's up a tree or so. He just let everyone get on with it and took the race win
36:32At least ricard radel got to finish race two although down in eighth after a pit lane speed penalty
36:38Sixth in race two leaves menu second in the championship
36:45Anthony reads win and then second place in round 22
36:49Puts him on top of the table with a nine point advantage over menu and a 28 point lead on ricard
36:55Rydell, this leaves the championship going to silverstone right down to the wire
37:00Going to silverstone right down to the wire
37:07The win for james k at alton park also means the class b battle would be decided at silverstone
37:12A two-way fight with alan morrison holding an 11 point advantage
37:22Oh, and if that's not close enough for you the last race meeting of the year and in fact the last ever super touring car race
37:29In the uk is being run under lights
