Cycling - Tour de Lombardie 2024 - Remco Evenepoel : "I was dying on the last climb... it shows how outstanding Pogacar is"

  • avant-hier

00:38This morning you said that being realistic you were racing for second place. So do you consider yourself a winner somehow?
00:46Yeah, honestly, it feels a bit like a personal victory. I think everybody knows
00:51the last time that I raced from bergamo to coma how it ended and
00:55now finishing as a
00:57best of the rest is uh, yeah feels like a personal victory and
01:01It makes me it makes me really proud
01:04i'm not gonna say emotional because i'm quite over the moment of uh, four years ago, but I think it's uh,
01:09Yeah, I mean i'm uh, I need to be honest and it uh, it feels really good to be to be second today
01:15It wasn't a surprise that um today pogacar attacked on the sarmano
01:19Um, what was happening in between you guys at that time?
01:24uh, I mean, um
01:26We kind of knew and
01:28Kind of predicted how and where that I would go
01:31We knew that the three kilometers after the the bridge where I crashed four years ago was the hardest of the of the climb
01:37And that's also where you went. So I think um
01:40Yeah
01:40I just did my own pace to the top to to try and take some advantage on the others and try to
01:46To to kind of limit the time loss to towards that day
01:49And I knew the descent pretty well
01:51So I just went flat out in the descent and I dropped the others so
01:55And then it was like a time trial towards the finish line. And uh,
01:58Yeah, I was actually dying on san fermo in the last few kilometers
02:02but I think um, yeah, the the gap was made by then and uh,
02:06Just had to consider so it was a bit of uh, yeah one v one and I think everybody saw again
02:12Who is the best rider of the moment? And uh, yeah just a deserved winner of today
02:17Being on the podium does it give you the confirmation that uh, this is a race you have to win. Yeah
02:23I mean, it's let's say one of my first good results in italy. It's uh, it uh, it feels good to to
02:30To do the race without any problems without any bad luck and just with a good feeling
02:34Uh, yeah, i'm just a bit unlucky that there's a great phenomenon ahead of me
02:39um, but yeah, like you say it's uh, it just gives some confidence and uh,
02:43Good morale to to try and come here with a better shape and try to go for the win
02:48Um, so yeah, it's a perfect way to end my season with and now just try to enjoy it
02:53Italy has many more races for you to come back. Thank you very much. Thank you
