00:00In what appears to be a tit-for-tat, the KL High Court was told on Monday that Tun Dr Mahathir
00:08Mohamad filed a lawsuit against Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi
00:14after the latter sued him first.
00:17The former Prime Minister, however, asserted that it was his right to take legal action,
00:22claiming his reputation and popularity were adversely affected by Ahmad Zahid's cootie
00:27remarks in 2017.
00:29The defendant's lawyer Mohamad Shahrul Fazli Qamarul Zaman was questioning Dr Mahathir
00:34about the delay in his legal action, which he initiated in July 2022, some four years
00:41after the incident.
00:43The former Langkawi MP said he has a lot of things to do and handle a lot of other businesses,
00:49but along the way, he realised what Ahmad Zahid said was believed by some people.
00:55Dr Mahathir also described the UMNO President's comments as a personal insult.
01:00Mohamad Shahrul then suggested that Dr Mahathir's legal action was purely an afterthought after
01:06he was no longer in power.
01:09In response, Dr Mahathir's lawyer Mior Nor Haider Suhaimi told the court that individuals
01:14have six years to initiate legal action.
01:17The hearing continues before Judicial Commissioner Gan Tekyong on Wednesday.
