2024 Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets South Yorkshire

His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire honours top reservists, cadets and cadet volunteers in the county.

00:00My name is Cadet Sergeant Louis Taylor and I'm from Sheffield Sea Cadets and Royal Marines

00:11Cadets.

00:12I am Cadet Sergeant Matthew Bruce from Udall Detachment, I'm assigned in South Yorkshire

00:16Army Cadet Force.

00:18I am Cadet Flight Sergeant Ellie Woodhead from 103 Doncaster Squadron.

00:25My name is Abdullah, Abdullah Woodhead and I'm a Cadet Company Sergeant Major from Fairfield

00:29School Combined Cadet Force.

00:31When I was younger I saw more senior cadets being Lord Lieutenant Cadets and it was something

00:37that I thought that I wanted to do.

00:38To be appointed Lord Lieutenant Cadet to me means a lot, being a little cadet and seeing

00:44other people getting it, I never thought I'd have the chance to do it.

00:47It's such an honour and I would never have thought that I would have got this far from

00:51being a small timid recruit to now representing South Yorkshire as a Lord Lieutenant Cadet.

00:55It's an honour and a privilege because I get to be an ambassador for such a welcoming community.

01:01When I joined Cadets it was just after Covid and after years of not kind of interacting

01:05with anyone and on the first day making new friends.

01:08Cadets have just brought me out of my shell and helped me be able to meet new people and

01:15work well with people.

01:16Boots of confidence to leading a team and mastering new skills that will not only benefit

01:22me but in my future career as well.

01:25It gave me many qualifications such as my first year of basic and advanced but also

01:29the skills such as being able to work in a team together.

01:31Leadership, teamwork and communication will also help in any job role anywhere.

01:38It's about building character in yourself and pushing yourself to those limits that

01:42you didn't know that you had.

01:43You have to step outside your comfort zone and that grows you as a person so whether

01:47you're going into civilian employment or in the military I think that will help you.

01:53If you're thinking of joining the Air Cadets or any cadet force I recommend it so much.

01:59It's the best thing you could do, you learn so much.
