15 September - National weather forecast for Thursday presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Hello, welcome to our national weather updates. With northerly winds setting in expect a cooler
00:06feel both by day and by night. The northerly winds bringing some showers across northern
00:11Scotland during Wednesday night and a fair bit of cloud across parts of eastern England
00:16too. But most places will be dry and where we've got clear skies temperatures will be
00:21quite a bit lower than they have been of late, certainly across Wales and southwest England.
00:25Where we've got that cloud temperatures likely to hold up in the teens across parts of eastern
00:29England but elsewhere we will see those temperatures tumbling and certainly across Scotland and
00:33northern England in some rural spots. They'll be well down into single figures. So a fresh
00:38start to Thursday, quite a cloudy start across parts of eastern England, might see one or
00:43two light showers here through the day. Some showers though will certainly be on the heavy
00:47side across parts of northern Scotland. The odd one may drift into parts of northern Ireland
00:52and perhaps into central parts of Scotland also. But most places won't see the showers
00:56staying dry. That cloud in eastern England should tend to break up as we go through the
01:00day to reveal a bit of blue sky and a bit of sunshine. In the sunshine temperatures
01:05in the south could still get over 20 Celsius but certainly a fresher feel, less humid compared
01:10to recent days and a chilly feel across northern Scotland with the heavy showers and temperatures
01:15only 12 or 13 Celsius out on that wind and it will feel even colder than that. And that
01:20wind will strengthen during Thursday night across northern Scotland but also down the
01:25eastern side of England bringing in a few more showers here as we head into Friday.
01:30A chance of one or two showers overnight for Wales and southwest England as well. But for
01:35most it will be clear and it will be a cold start to Friday morning. More widely temperatures
01:41down to single figures and again this is urban areas so in the countryside we will be well
01:46down into single digits. Quite a bit colder you'll notice in London for the crowds gathering
01:52here. It is going to be a cold start to Friday. The winds will continue to strengthen down
01:59that eastern side bringing in some quite heavy showers at times on the eastern coastal strip
02:03of England and the northeast of Scotland. That wind will be really quite noticeable
02:08elsewhere generally dry and bright with spells of sunshine coming through. But that northerly
02:13wind will be having an impact on the temperatures. We're going to struggle to get above 18 or
02:1719 across the south and especially these eastern coastal counties a significant wind chill
02:2312, 13, 14 at best. But add on that wind it will feel much colder than that especially
02:28when showers come along. Still a few of those heavy showers coming into parts of the east
02:33during Friday evening. That cold wind will only slowly ease as we go through the weekend.
02:39More details on that in our 10 day trend forecast that you can see on YouTube and on Facebook.
