00:00Welcome to your latest national weather forecast from the Met Office. Snow
00:04showers affecting Scotland and we have Met Office warnings in place for the
00:09snow showers coming in here. You can see the mottled look to the satellite image.
00:12A mixture of rain sleet and snow at low levels but increasingly we could see
00:16some disruption from the snow showers especially over the higher routes. Further
00:20south we've got an old weather front providing quite a lot of clouds and bits
00:24of drizzle here and there across southwest England. Things clouding over
00:27across the southeast maybe a little bit of light rain coming in here late in the
00:31day. Then we've got a brighter zone over northern England, North Wales and then
00:35we've got the showers packing in not just for Scotland but also for Northern
00:38Ireland. As I said a wintry mix here of rain, hail, sleet and some snow at times.
00:43The winds strengthening as well that is an extra hazard or particularly for
00:48Thursday. Temperatures well single figures across the north feeling cold as
00:51that wind strengthens but one more mild day in the south with some brightness
00:55across the southeast 13 or 14 is possible. However it will be clouding
00:59over here we'll see a little bit more of that patchy rain across southern
01:02England through the evening and overnight may take most of the night
01:06before that starts to pull away and the snow showers intensify overnight across
01:11Scotland. Again chiefly higher routes but even down to low levels there could be
01:15some but certainly above about two three hundred meters a few centimeters of snow
01:19may build up and that strengthening wind means blizzards. So some pretty grim
01:22traveling conditions through the night and into Thursday across parts of
01:27Scotland. As the wind strengthen there could be some issues to ferry services
01:31as well. Those strong winds will stop the temperatures falling too far but
01:35certainly still some pockets of frost but a shelter across eastern Scotland
01:39will see temperatures dipping below freezing. A colder night across the south
01:43but still here temperatures mostly staying well above freezing. There'll still
01:47be quite a bit of cloud early on across southern areas on Thursday morning but
01:51generally a dry and a bright day here. The snow showers still going through the
01:55morning could be icy as well and those strengthening winds and extra hazard
01:59during Thursday particularly across central southern Scotland then down the
02:03eastern side of Scotland during the day. Gusts of wind could cause some
02:07disruption even the potential for some power issues in places. The showers will
02:12be packing into Northern Ireland chiefly of rain here but some snow over the
02:15hills and we'll see some drifting into northern England and those showers and
02:18that strong wind through the day. But much of the south will be dry we'll see
02:22bright skies and some sunshine coming through. But colder air is moving in so
02:27temperatures no longer in double figures. We're looking at close to average eight
02:30nine across the south feeling cooler with the wind but with the strong winds
02:34further north it's going to feel pretty bitter on those North Sea coasts. Five or
02:37six is what the thermometer may read but as I said it's going to feel an awful lot
02:41colder with those strong and gusty winds. Which will steadily ease during Thursday
02:46evening. A little weather system moving out into the North Sea taking the showers
02:50with it. We'll keep some showers going over Northern Ireland, south of Scotland
02:54into North Wales and it could turn icy as temperatures start to tumble and
02:59we'll see a fairly extensive frost I suspect on Friday morning before many of
03:02us on Friday have a fine and sunny day. Check out those weather warnings through
03:06our app or our website.
