00:00Thanks for joining me for this latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04The cold persists, slowly turning a little milder maybe over the next few days,
00:08but generally a pretty chilly week.
00:10And yesterday, as you can see here on the radar, we had some snow flurries across the south.
00:15They tended to drift away, still one or two in the far southwest first thing this morning,
00:20but again continuing to pull away down to the southwest,
00:23blown along by a fairly brisk and cold wind.
00:26But for many of us, it's a bright, fine day.
00:29Plenty of sunshine and off over Wales, northwest England, much of western and northern Scotland.
00:35It is quite cloudy in eastern Scotland and parts of northeast England staying fairly dry.
00:39But elsewhere, some winter sunshine trying to lift the temperatures.
00:43Some stubborn fog patches over parts of northern Scotland, particularly close to Inverness.
00:48They may last all day.
00:50But in the sunshine, temperatures creeping up four, five degrees, generally below average.
00:55And when you add the wind on, it feels particularly cold across the south.
01:00Feels like temperature of negative figures across much of England and Wales.
01:05The winds are lighter further north, so feeling fairly pleasant in the sunshine over northwest Scotland.
01:10But as I say, there are some stubborn fog patches here.
01:12And I think we'll see the cloud just increasing over northern and eastern Scotland
01:16through the evening and overnight, and also northern England.
01:19And the cloud may be thick enough for one or two showers in here.
01:23The only showers that we see here will be of rain, certainly at lower levels.
01:26Maybe a few flurries of snow on the hills.
01:28But for most, it just stays dry overnight, certainly in the south.
01:32Long clear spell, so that blue hue telling us it's going to be frosty once more.
01:37Temperatures in towns and cities dipping to minus one, minus two.
01:41A couple of degrees lower maybe in the countryside.
01:43But that wind should stop temperatures dropping too far.
01:46The cloud will stop temperatures dropping too far over northeast England and parts of southern Scotland.
01:51So some here will stay above freezing.
01:53Western Scotland, again, seeing the lowest temperatures.
01:56We could be well below freezing in the sheltered glens here.
02:00Into Wednesday, and again, for most places, it's going to be dry.
02:05A fine and sunny day in the south, albeit with a cold and pretty gusty wind at times.
02:10So similar to today.
02:11Further north, more cloud over northern England, particularly to the west of the Pennines.
02:15And a cloudier day over southeast Scotland.
02:18One or two little rain showers coming in here and there.
02:21And that wind also becoming more noticeable over the east coast of Scotland, northeast England.
02:26So even though temperatures actually will be a little higher on Wednesday for most,
02:31it'll probably feel colder if it stays cloudy with that wind in that northeastern corner in particular.
02:36Further south, again, temperatures maybe a degree or so higher,
02:39but still feeling cold with the wind, particularly along the south coast of England,
02:43just four Celsius, likely the high here.
02:47Again, that frost will return pretty quickly where we've got the clearest skies,
02:50but further north with a bit more clouds, again, some places will stay just about above freezing
02:55as we head into Thursday.
02:56But the cold theme will continue, temperatures waxing and waning a little bit
03:00as we head into the weekend and into next week.
03:03It could be some interesting weather around.
03:05For more on that, catch our deep dive.
03:08That'll be available on YouTube on Tuesday afternoon.
