Pompey FC Alan Knight reveals prostate cancer diagnosis

Alan Knight has revealed he is fighting prostate cancer.

00:00So, Alan, tell me how you felt when you found out about the diagnosis.

00:06Yeah, totally shocked. As I said, I just had gone in for a pre-diabetes blood test, had

00:13a few symptoms. As I said, over the weekend I was getting up to go to the loo during the

00:18night far more frequently than I would do normally. The stream was weak and I just asked

00:24the nurse who was taking my bloods at the time how I would go about getting a PSA test

00:29and she, luckily enough, said she could do it there and then. And then within 48 hours

00:34I was back in the surgery for an examination and then put on an urgent suspected cancer

00:41referral. And then in two weeks I had a consultation, MRI, CT and bone scan and then a biopsy. A

00:53long wait, it felt, of three weeks to get the diagnosis up in oncology and now I'm in

01:02urology. I've kept them ones mixed up. And now, obviously, waiting to start the chemo.

01:10So yeah, a real shock. But full of positivity, especially, I mean, me, the family, Heather

01:18and myself and all my family have been really blown away with the response. I know I went

01:24to a public with you guys recently and then through the club, mainly to raise awareness

01:31for men's prostate cancer. But really for all cancers, men or women, I mean, any lumps,

01:40bumps and stuff that you're not sure of. And I think you get a bit of a sense yourself.

01:46So don't be embarrassed to get anything checked. And yeah, that's the message I'm trying to

01:52get across. And obviously with all the stuff that's going on over the next few months with

01:58raising awareness around all cancers, as I say, yeah, as I say, just want to go and get

02:05the treatment done. And as I say, really love all the positive stuff that I've been given

02:11from everyone, from the Pompe family as well.
