00:00We have showers, rain, even some snow as we go through the rest of this afternoon.
00:04But then Storm Ciarán is going to approach from the southwest.
00:08The low pressure is currently here to the southwest of the UK,
00:11and it's going to rapidly deepen as it approaches us through the next few hours.
00:16But looking at the details through the rest of this afternoon,
00:19a band of heavy rain, some strong winds, even some hill snow across parts of Scotland.
00:23We're talking snow above about 400 metres or so.
00:27Elsewhere, a scattering of showers.
00:28Some of these could be heavy, perhaps even thundery,
00:31particularly across western parts of Northern Ireland,
00:33some parts of Northern England into Wales and southwest England too.
00:37Otherwise, there will be some sunny spells.
00:38Perhaps the best of the sunshine will be across eastern parts of England.
00:42In the north, with the cloud, the rain, the strong winds and the snow,
00:45it's going to be feeling quite cold at times.
00:47But further south, temperatures near normal for the time of year.
00:51Highs around 15 Celsius here.
00:53Later on then, Storm Ciarán is going to push its way up from the southwest.
00:57It is going to bring some very wet and very windy weather
01:00across the bulk of England and Wales overnight.
01:03But the exceptionally strong winds are going to be towards the south coast.
01:07Further north, and we are going to see some drier weather
01:10once any initial rain overnight clears away towards the north
01:13and some clear skies here too across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:17Under these clear skies, temperatures likely to take quite a dip.
01:20So a touch of frost likely here.
01:22But elsewhere across the bulk of England and Wales,
01:24a milder picture because of the unsettled weather.
01:28Now, as we go through Thursday, it is going to be very wet and very windy.
01:31We have a number of warnings out at the moment
01:33because we are likely to see some significant disruption.
01:36There could be some further flooding and there could be some damage to property
01:40as well as disruption to travel as well.
01:42The rain is going to be widespread across the bulk of the UK,
01:45pushing into eastern and southern parts of Scotland
01:48as we go through the afternoon and even far eastern parts of Northern Ireland
01:52may see some rain skimming here.
01:54And this could cause some further impacts due to the recent flooding we've seen.
01:58But further west, across the far west of Scotland
02:01and the far west of Northern Ireland, staying mostly dry.
02:04Temperatures are going to be a little bit on the cool side
02:07as we go through Thursday.
02:08That's because of the cloud, the rain, the strong winds
02:10and in the unsettled weather, it is going to feel quite cold too.
02:14Storm Ciarán does then push its way towards the North Sea
02:17as we go through the end of the day on Thursday.
02:19Still plenty of heavy, showery rain to come for a time,
02:23but things will start to quieten down as we go into Friday.
02:26Now, looking at the details, like I said, we do have a number of warnings
02:30out at the moment, but they include two wind warnings.
02:33We have this first one through Thursday morning affecting parts of the southwest
02:37and then another one which is across parts of the southeast
02:40as we go later on in the day.
02:42The strong winds, if we look at the gusts, are going to push their way
02:44from west to east as we go through the day around exposed coastal parts.
02:48There's a risk of gusts reaching 70 to 80 miles per hour,
02:52perhaps even in excess of 85 miles per hour.
02:55So it is going to be exceptionally windy, which is why we are quite likely
02:59to see further significant impacts due to Storm Ciarán.
03:03Now, there is more unsettled weather to come as we go into the weekend,
03:05not as severe as due to Storm Ciarán, but Aidan will have more information
