00:00Hello there, welcome to a Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:04There's three zones of weather through the next two days. Heavy rain in the south
00:09could be impactful. There's a rain warning extending from Wednesday evening
00:13until Friday. Now this north-easterly wind will deliver low clouds along this
00:17eastern strip of England as well as Scotland, penetrating quite far inland on
00:21Thursday. Odd spot or two of rain can't be ruled out, but fine conditions towards the
00:25northwest. It is a breezy day into Friday as well. This rain warning extends
00:30through Friday and again that rain waxing and waning, but one or two spots
00:34could see up to around 100 millimetres over 48 hours. And then into the weekend
00:40we lose the strength of the wind, but still showers in the mix across England
00:44and Wales. A mix of cloud and sun across more northern areas and that low cloud
00:49again just coming and going through the day. So let's pick up on some detail on
00:53Wednesday. Still some showers around, particularly Irish sea coast. Notice more
00:58clouds along this eastern side of Scotland in eastern England. Where the
01:01cloud is thick enough you could see a little bit of rain. Now this rain warning
01:05kicks in from 9 p.m. This rain is migrating from the Brest Peninsula
01:10pushing ever northwards, so there will be pulses of heavy downpours as we head
01:15through into the early hours of Thursday morning. Notice one coming in across
01:18central southern England up towards Devon and Somerset. Another one just
01:23close to the southeast corner there. Elsewhere a bit of dampness to start the
01:28day. Some showery bursts across northern England. Clearer skies across western
01:32Scotland. That's where you'll see the lowest temperatures. A chilly morning
01:35here, but you'll get off to some fine weather with some sunshine. And a much
01:39better day around across Northern Ireland. The cloud breaks allowing for
01:43some sunshine. Now this zone of cloud here will continue and we'll see that
01:47rain just waning, just easing as we head through the day, but still damp along
01:51this eastern side. It's feeling cool in the wind. Notice this rain sort of bumping
01:54into the south midlands, extending towards the southeast of Wales, southern
01:58Wales, and then more rain arriving across the west country. These bright echoes
02:02representing some heavy pulses. So there could be problems if you are driving. You
02:07may run into some heavy downpours here. And along this east coast feeling quite
02:11fresh with the wind and again some dampness in the air, particularly across
02:15the southern uplands as well as the Pennines. Highest temperatures will be
02:18western Scotland, coming in around 20 or 21 degrees Celsius. Feeling warm in
02:23shelter across Northern Ireland with that sunshine. And along this eastern
02:26side a keen breeze here, feeling also rather cool under the cloud and rain
02:31further south and southwest. So let's pick up on that rain. It continues into
02:36Thursday night. You can see it's a band which becomes quite narrow, even so
02:40always close to the south coast and affecting the southwest southern parts
02:44of Wales from time to time. Elsewhere a lot of cloud across England and Wales
02:48overnight into Thursday morning. Again some dampness in the air across border
02:52regions, the far northeast of England. Clearer skies further west where
02:56temperatures will dip down to single figures but another bright day. In fact
03:01on Friday we could see some high temperatures across western and central
03:05parts of Scotland. Could even see 25 or 26 here. Elsewhere yes once the cloud
03:10breaks it's going to feel warm. The wind won't be as strong and the cloud will
03:13come and go along that eastern side. Watch out though for the heavy rain
03:16across more southern counties. Stay tuned to the forecast here. The
03:19distribution may vary a little bit and then on Saturday it showers across
03:23England and Wales. Again the chance of some clouds along the eastern side of
03:27Scotland. Elsewhere fine and dry with some sunshine and your outlook through
03:31Sunday. Now for more details about the weather into the weekend and beyond
03:35check out our 10-day trend. This week it's with Aidan McGiven and I'll see you
03:39again soon.
