27 August - National weather forecast presented by Alex Burkill.
Transcript
00:00Hello, very good day to you. In the southeast, it's going to stay pretty fine through today.
00:05Lots of warm sunshine to be had. Elsewhere, a slightly different story. There's a front
00:10making its way across the country, but it's moving pretty slowly. And so it's already
00:15brought a fair bit of rain to parts of Northern Ireland, parts of Scotland, Dumfries, Galloway
00:19area. We've seen rainfall totals building up, some localised impacts here. And now that
00:23front's pushing into parts of northwest England and western parts of Wales as well. But this
00:28front is really going to make pretty slow progress. So as we go through this afternoon,
00:33it's going to linger and stall over parts of northern England, maybe reaching the West
00:38Midlands and also across a large chunk of Wales, there will be lots of cloud and outbreaks
00:44of rain. To the northwest of the front, something a bit showery at times, some showers across
00:49parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Towards the southeast of the front, like I said at
00:53the start, lots of fine, sunny weather to be had. And with that, then temperatures rising
00:58it is going to feel pleasantly warm. Temperatures peaking around 24, 25, maybe 26 Celsius around
01:04London. Towards the northwest of the front, though, it is going to be quite a bit fresher
01:08than this. Now, this front really doesn't make a huge amount of progress overnight.
01:13Watch out, there could be some heavier bursts, perhaps even a rumble of thunder mixed in
01:16with it across parts of northern England, Wales and into the Midlands. There could also
01:21be some mist and fog patches developing, particularly in parts of the southwest around the front
01:26where there will also be a bit of rain to come. Further showery bursts across parts
01:30of Northern Ireland and Scotland. Some of these could be a bit heavy at times, but across
01:35central southeastern parts of England, it's actually going to stay largely fine. And even
01:40though there will be quite a bit of clear skies, temperatures not dropping a huge amount
01:44here. Some relatively warm air keeping many places up around the middle, even high teens
01:49in some places. And as we go through Wednesday itself, still have this front lingering. So
01:54further rain at times across parts of northern England, Wales, southwest England as well
01:59could turn a little bit heavy, perhaps. But towards the east southeast of this, sticking
02:03with the largely fine picture, maybe a bit more cloud than through today, but nonetheless
02:07still pretty settled. But across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, heavy showery
02:12rain arriving and like I say, some intense downbursts associated with that. Now, the
02:17front that lingers as we go through tomorrow really does mark the boundary between something
02:22a bit fresher towards the north and west and something markedly warmer towards the
02:26east southeast of the UK. Here, we could see temperatures rising into the high 20s, perhaps
02:31so 26, 27, maybe even 28 or 29 Celsius. So feeling pretty warm, if not hot for some of
02:39us, especially in the sunshine towards the southeast. Now, as we go through later on
02:43this week, there is a lot of dry, settled weather to come, particularly towards the
02:48south and east. Further north and west, you have a greater chance of seeing some showers
02:52especially on Thursday. But generally, high pressure means it is going to be largely fine
02:57for many of us. That being said, by day, temperatures won't be quite as high as on Wednesday. Still
03:02pretty warm and around average for the time of year. But do watch out for some perhaps
03:06notably cool nights to come. Now, this week, we are launching our storm names for the 2024
03:122025 storm season. You can find out more about why we name our storms and what's happened
03:18in previous years in our deep dive, which will be available on YouTube later on with
03:23Aidan and Will Lang. I'll see you again soon. Bye bye.
