00:00Today is a really exciting day for the LGBTQIA plus community.
00:05The Premier has said he recommends support for my bill with amendment,
00:10and we hope to see the legislation passed through the lower house this week.
00:15I have obviously had to compromise significantly to get here.
00:20I have scaled my legislation down to the provisions that deal with the safety and dignity
00:27of trans people, of sex workers, of rainbow families and the LGBTQIA plus community.
00:34There is going to be more work to do after today, but these reforms in the legislation,
00:39including allowing trans people to update their birth certificate, are urgent.
00:44Also, some of the domestic violence protections, threats to out someone,
00:49making that a coercive control offence, is urgent.
00:53Today we welcome the Premier's commitment to the Equality Bill,
00:56and we call on all MPs to back this legislation through the Parliament this week.
01:02This week is an opportunity to be on the right side of history,
01:06to finally remove the archaic, cruel and discriminatory laws
01:10that impact on members of our communities every day.
