A separate North Queensland state, 'castle law', and more youth detention centres are some of the policies being put forward by the Australian Katter Party and One Nation.

00:00Flying home to his vast electorate, Mount Isa, is Kattah Country.
00:07Robbie Kattah has been the local member for 12 years, and with a safe margin of nearly
00:1225 per cent, this is his kingdom.
00:17The conservative Bushman is campaigning on Christian family values, while also calling
00:23for the right to kill intruders who break into your home.
00:27Law is required, Bush sentencing is required, I think parents need the right to smack again,
00:32that's required.
00:33His party also wants a separate North Queensland state.
00:38We're absolutely over-endowed with resources, but we're all constrained by policy that's
00:43made from 2,000 kilometres away.
00:45For him, politics is local.
00:47Well, he's here, and he knows what's going on here.
00:51His family's been here forever, and they know what it's like to live remotely.
00:55Further south, the coastal seat of Keppel is marginally held by Labor.
01:01One Nation's James Ashby is campaigning to restore Keppel Island to its former glory.
01:07It's just gone to rack and ruin.
01:09There are plenty of great businesses doing the very best they can over there, but when
01:13you've got the state government working against you, it's very difficult to succeed.
01:19He also wants tougher penalties for criminals.
01:23We've got to increase the number of juvenile detention centre beds.
01:27The LNP is expected to win more than the 47 seats it needs to form a majority government.
01:33But political analysts believe there will be a swing towards minor parties.
01:38The Catters are counting on it, hopeful to increase their number to five in the next
01:42parliament.
01:44The state's only current independent MP, Noosa's Sandy Bolton, says she'll work with whichever
01:51party wins government.
01:53I've seen a lot of discontent with the major parties, so I would hope that that discontent
01:59will actually translate into more votes going towards independents and minor parties.
