00:00Rural councils put out new images which could see a historic square,
00:04waterfront and high street undergo some major changes. The local authority is asking for
00:09opinions again on its latest plans for Woodside, Hamilton Square and Argyle Street.
00:14The new plans could see new trees, cycle routes, improved paving,
00:18a new plaza and event space, as well as a waterfront children's play area.
00:22Rural councils said the plans would make the area better connected and create a feel-good factor.
00:27An early ÂŁ1 million contract was approved earlier in the year to move the scheme forward,
00:32with ÂŁ21 million expected to be spent on improving the area.
00:35The money comes from government grant funding, some of which needs to be spent by March 2025.
00:40As well as physical changes to the high street, the council is also looking at supporting
00:44businesses along Argyle Street to help them access any available grant funding
00:48to improve their look and expand.
00:50Despite the changes, some things will stay the same with historic tram tracks in the area kept.
00:54These link up to the transport museum, which is set to see a major revamp and double in size.
