00:00Good afternoon everyone, welcome to Project BMW, Jekyll and Hyde.
00:16On this episode, a good chunk of Team Pinnacle Driving Academy comes over to help along with
00:20a few other friends.
00:21We start repairing the rust on Mr. Hyde and begin to pull the engine on Dr. Jekyll.
00:25I know that I said I was going to take the 330, wait, the 330 motor from this one and
00:31put it in the Time Attack car, but the drift car is going to keep the 330 motor, yes.
00:38And I'm going to buy another 330 motor and I'm going to put it in the Time Attack car
00:42because I have decided that, yes, I know you can drift a 325i very, very well and there
00:49are some excellent videos up there with people perfectly, completely drifting them, but I
00:54would like this to be a serious drift car at some point, so I think I'm going to stick
00:58with the 330 in this motor.
01:00Also, I'm lazy, and then I don't have to do a double engine swap, yeah, that would make
01:05sense wouldn't it?
01:06So I'm just going to get rid of the 325 in that one and I'm going to put a 330 in the
01:11Time Attack car and Mr. Hyde, the drift car, is going to keep the 330.
01:15Now obviously before I get started, for the love of, just subscribe and turn on notifications.
01:20I gave away a t-shirt because some of you missed it in the turn on the notifications
01:24thing.
01:25If you do that, I do giveaways, I got lots of content coming, car reviews, car builds,
01:30car culture, everything is coming.
01:33Just subscribe, turn on notifications, I promise you it won't be boring.
01:36I'm hitting two videos a week now and I'm going to keep that up as long as you guys
01:38are following along.
01:39All right, check it out.
01:40I am actually beyond stoked to tell you that I am sponsored by Condor Speed Shop this evening,
01:45okay?
01:46I just ordered like an entire box of bushings, okay?
01:50These are going to go mostly on Dr. Jekyll because it's the one that's serious and it
01:55needs to be done properly because it's for setting lap times, right?
01:58But I do have some engine mounts and transmission mounts for Mr. Hyde and I know, okay, before
02:04you tell me, I know that I should be hardening the chassis as much as I can for the drift
02:08car but I'm just going to try and make do and get by because I just don't have the budget
02:12to put bushings on all these cars.
02:14But these are absolutely fantastic.
02:17I love Condor Speed Shop's branding and right here I started mumbling as I tried to remember
02:23what these bushings are made of.
02:24It's a special polymer called ultra high molecular weight polyethylene, which basically means
02:29that they never need lubrication and they are massively stiff but still absorb some
02:33road vibrations.
02:34And I've got everything.
02:35Oh, and I've got this too.
02:37Check.
02:38Uh-oh.
02:39This is a steering coupler, okay?
02:40This gets rid of the steering gweebo or geebo, whatever you want to say.
02:43There's a rubber steering coupler coming down from the steering shaft and this just deletes
02:46that and makes it hard, okay?
02:48For track use only, all right?
02:50This should hopefully sharpen up the steering.
02:52And oh, I've got offset control arm bushings, okay?
02:56So these add caster, which help with steering feel and help with, what is it, creating more
03:01camber?
03:02I can't even remember now.
03:04And once it's done, you don't have to worry about it.
03:05It's done.
03:06That's it.
03:07Get the bushings in, redo everything and you're off to the races, literally.
03:12And when I do my car builds, I only drink cold, fresh, bubbly Perrier.
03:21All right.
03:22Harrison is draining the coolant so we can pull the front clip off.
03:25That's my brother, by the way.
03:27Wave, Harrison.
03:28I can't right now.
03:30Okay, he can't wave.
03:31I'm going to try to get the exhaust removed and this is always literally my least favorite
03:36thing in the world to do is it's always rusted.
03:42Every time it's rusted.
03:43I hate it.
03:44La-da-da-da.
03:45Make sure you protect your face and eyes and ears and mouth and nose.
03:49Kind of a wrench extractor thing here.
03:53Nice big one.
03:54Goes right over.
03:55Oh, that won't fit.
03:56You've got to be kidding me.
03:57All right, you've got an extractor socket.
04:00That's what I've resorted to.
04:02Ooh, that's hot.
04:03Don't touch it.
04:04Don't touch the metal.
04:11Ah, there she goes.
04:24Woo-hoo.
04:25That's what I'm talking about.
04:27Fire is always the answer.
04:30And Miata.
04:31All right.
04:32Joe is here, everybody.
04:33That's Joe.
04:34Hello.
04:35Joe loves body work, apparently.
04:37So Joe is going to help Mr. Hyde here with its very rusted body.
04:43Okay.
04:44So, okay.
04:45So the guy who repaired this last year, he just, like, repaired this jack point.
04:49But I'm going to get a light so that we can show the camera what's going on.
04:52But, like, it's a mess under there.
04:54Like, just take your coat off and then have, like, a lean under there for a second.
04:57You can see, like, how much needs to actually be cut away.
05:00We're not talking about structural part of it.
05:03Well, I don't know how structural it is.
05:05This...
05:06Whoops.
05:07I just beat Kevin up with a...
05:09All right.
05:10Can you see this?
05:11That looks like a mess.
05:12That looks like a mess.
05:13Yeah.
05:14Right?
05:15So, like, it's just absolutely...
05:16This whole panel here, it comes down and it connects from the underside of the body
05:26into, like, a little platform underneath.
05:29And that's all gone.
05:30Okay.
05:31You don't have rust on your car.
05:32You have some car with your rust.
05:33I know.
05:34So, we need to cut away all of this, right?
05:36We'll wire wheel, like, what's left over, essentially, and just try and...
05:43We're gonna eventually cut some pieces and then just gonna tack weld them all along the
05:47bottom to repair that.
05:48Right.
05:49So, we're just patching...
05:50We're essentially just patching the...
05:51Yeah, exactly.
05:52I was even thinking of going in, you know, with, like, the square tubing with, like,
05:54a proper welder and putting some square braces across the side just to add some rigidity
05:58back into it.
05:59Yeah, that's not a bad idea.
06:00Right?
06:01But...
06:02That gets you more points, though, right?
06:03Does it?
06:04Yeah.
06:05What if it's chassis stiffening?
06:06Chassis stiffening will get you more points.
06:07Really?
06:08Yeah.
06:09What if it's chassis stiffening to just make the car...
06:10Oh, wait a second.
06:11This is the drift car.
06:12We don't care.
06:13That's the time attack car.
06:14Yes.
06:15Yes.
06:16Okay.
06:17So, we're okay.
06:18This is gonna be the drift car.
06:19So, it could be anything.
06:20It doesn't matter, right?
06:21All right.
06:22So, we are going to...
06:23I have all the tools you need, I think.
06:24We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
06:25I've got wire wheels.
06:26Why do you love body work?
06:27But, I actually...
06:29Well...
06:30You lied.
06:31I lied.
06:32There's a...
06:33One jack point has a little bit of rot around the edge.
06:34All the rest of them are structurally sound, but one jack point's not super strong.
06:35So, I might just have somebody actually come in and...
06:36I mean, I'll take the car to them and actually have them repair it properly.
06:37Okay.
06:38So, we're gonna get cutting, grinding.
06:39I have all the tools you need, I think.
06:40We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
06:41I have all the tools you need, I think.
06:42We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
06:43I have all the tools you need, I think.
06:44We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
06:45I have all the tools you need, I think.
06:46We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
06:47I have all the tools you need, I think.
06:48We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
06:49I have all the tools you need, I think.
06:50We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
06:51I have all the tools you need, I think.
06:52We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
06:53I have all the tools you need, I think.
06:54We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
06:55I have all the tools you need, I think.
06:56We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
06:57I have all the tools you need, I think.
06:58We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
06:59I have all the tools you need, I think.
07:00We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:01I have all the tools you need, I think.
07:02We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:03I have all the tools you need, I think.
07:04We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:05I have all the tools you need, I think.
07:06We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:07I have all the tools you need, I think.
07:08We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:09I have all the tools you need, I think.
07:10We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:11I have all the tools you need, I think.
07:12We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:13We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:14We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:15We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:16We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:17We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:18We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:19We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:20We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:21We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:22We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:23We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:24We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:25We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:26We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:27We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:28We're gonna get cutting, grinding.
07:29Hey buddy. Yo, your beard. I've got nothing on that.
07:37I just pulled the exhaust, we got two drive shafts, and then we'll drop the subframe.
07:44Sounds like fun.
07:46There's pizza soon.
07:50The problem is it's Panzerati, so it'll slow us down.
07:54So we're going to get some work done, then we'll hit it up.
07:57Have you ever had Panzerati from here?
07:59It just sounds like a Maserati, that's all I know.
08:01Oh, get ready. Get ready. Prepare yourself. Prepare yourself for the Panzerati.
08:04We kept plugging away at getting everything removed so we could pull the engine,
08:08and we even stopped to have some pizza to tide us over until we could order Panzerati later.
08:14What a health-conscious group we are.
08:16So instead of buying one and then weld along the middle and make it bend, just buy something pre-bended maybe.
08:32Oh yeah, let's see what you mean. Yeah.
08:35This doesn't need to be pretty, right?
08:37Yeah, it's just for structure. It's pretty thick.
08:39How is this under here?
08:41It kind of goes in here, I think.
08:43It's surface, right?
08:45So if you have a Dremel, like a flexible Dremel, you can go in and just clean it up and not cut this section off?
08:52Okay.
08:54All right, so we got the front clip off.
08:56We're going to remove the sway bar. Here it is. Very lovely.
08:59This engine is good to go.
09:01Hey, did you get anyone there in the Ontario area that wants a 325 motor that works well,
09:06I'd fix it up, it's got new coils, it runs fine?
09:08Go-kart.
09:09He wants to make a go-kart out of it. I promise that if that actually happens, I will show you guys.
09:14Because that would be amazing.
09:16But otherwise, I don't know, 150 bucks is a motor for you if you need it.
09:20Poor Joe's over here continuing to cut away parts of Mr. Hyde.
09:25And Dr. Jekyll's about to lose its drive shaft so we can actually, yeah, so we can get the engine out.
09:34Next time on Project BMW Jekyll and Hyde, we find out how many dudes it takes to pull a BMW motor,
09:40we finally get our Panzerati, and we have a very unfortunate mishap with the transmission.
09:47Whoa!
