00:00Bersatu cannot hope to have an outspoken youth chief like UMNO's Dr. Akmal Saleh while
00:06also trying to attract non-Malay support, says a political analyst.
00:11Azmil Taib of University Science Malaysia said, outgoing Bersatu Youth Chief Wan Ahmad
00:16Faizal Wan Ahmad Kamal cannot expect the party to achieve both goals, calling them contradictory
00:21and impossible.
00:24In a recent interview with FMT, Wan Faizal urged Bersatu to adopt a more inclusive approach
00:29while also encouraging his successor to be vocal on national issues to woo young Malays.
00:35Azmil suggested that Bersatu should pivot towards a more inclusive and moderate stance
00:40to stand out from UMNO, especially in racially mixed constituencies.
00:44However, Azmil said the party must convince non-Malay voters of its sincerity considering
00:50its past and focus on bread and butter issues rather than race and religion.
00:55Meanwhile, Owee Sun from the Singapore Institute of International Affairs said Bersatu seems
01:00to lack clear political direction and the party's association with PAS makes it difficult
01:05to attract non-Malay votes.
01:08Owee added that even if Bersatu adopts a more outspoken youth chief like Akmal, its close
01:12ties with PAS will hinder its chances of winning over non-Malay voters.
