00:00This is what many have been referring to as the comet of the century, scientifically named
00:08C slash 2023 A3.
00:11It's currently passing by Earth and will come within around 46 million miles of us.
00:15And if you don't check it out soon in the night sky, you'll never get a chance to see
00:18it again as it won't sit by our planet for another 80,000 years.
00:23This video in particular was captured from the Canary Islands with amateur astronomers
00:27hoping to catch a glimpse of the cosmic transient.
00:29However, it can be seen all over the world, with this video having been captured in Beijing.
00:34The comet hails from the Oort cloud, the theorized boundary at the very edge of the solar system
00:38beyond Neptune.
00:40The area is believed to be home to vast amounts of planetesimal objects, which are constantly
00:44colliding and sending objects like this one into wild orbits around the sun.
00:48C slash 2023 A3 is a fast one too, traveling at speeds upwards of around 150,000 miles
00:55per hour.
00:56This comet will be viewable in the sky for the next two weeks.
00:59However, it's not the only one.
01:01Another recently discovered comet, C slash 2024 S1, will initially be viewable on October
01:0624th, and possibly again on Halloween night.
