00:00The Association of Health Organizations and Experts has agreed that there should be food warning labels on food products
00:09that can help fight non-communicable diseases or MCDs in the country.
00:15This is the story of Bien Manalo.
00:19Marie-Chris Llames admitted that she forgot to watch her two children who are 4 and 6 years old
00:28because of work, especially since she loves to eat snacks.
00:33For her, it's important to watch the back-of-back nutrition facts of food
00:39so that her children's health is not compromised.
00:42It's important to watch because that's where you can see if the child ate the right amount of ingredients,
00:52if it's enough for the child's age.
00:55Along with the celebration of World Food Day and Global Week for Action on Non-Communicable Diseases,
01:01key policy makers, health professionals, and civil society leaders joined forces
01:07in the agreement that their campaign of food warning labels will be passed into law.
01:14The fight against the spread of non-communicable diseases or MCDs in the Philippines is far-reaching.
01:20The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding marks a crucial milestone in our collective efforts
01:26to combat this pressing public health issue.
01:29The food warning label is considered the global best practices and most effective system
01:36where black octagonal warnings will be placed on the packaging of drinks or food that has the word HIGH IN.
01:43This way, consumers will be able to see and understand the nutritional value of what they are buying.
01:51We don't need to love, we just need to know what's inside our food.
01:57It is time to take the lead and take urgent action to prevent and control the MCD prevalence among Filipinos.
02:07That is why the Healthy Philippines Alliance, or HPA,
02:10is working hard to pass the food warning label into law in the country.
02:16We will have a wide-ranging campaign, a wide-ranging advocacy.
02:20We will let the public know what the warning labels look like.
02:26What are these warning labels?
02:28Cardiovascular diseases are among the primary types of MCDs,
02:32such as heart attack and stroke.
02:35There are also other types of cancer, chronic respiratory diseases such as pneumonia and asthma,
02:40and diabetes.
02:42According to the World Health Organization,
02:4570% or more than 600,000 Filipinos die every year from MCD.
