00:00The largest commandant exercise of the Philippine Marine Corps
00:04with its allies
00:06started today.
00:08Disaster response and maintenance
00:10of security in the Indo-Pacific region
00:12as part of the exercise.
00:14Patrick De Jesus
00:16at the center of the news.
00:20I hereby declare
00:22the Commandant 08-24
00:26open, effective this day.
00:31From today,
00:32the US Marines and Philippine Marine Corps
00:34will train for more than a week
00:36under the guidance
00:38of the Marines
00:40in the Sea
00:42or Commandant Exercises 2024.
00:44This is the 8th time
00:46of the so-called training
00:48that is bigger this year
00:50and will be led by more than
00:522,000 participants
00:54including the Australian
00:56Defense Force, British Armed Forces,
00:58Japan Ground Self-Defense Force
01:00and Republic of Korea
01:02Marine Corps.
01:04The observers will serve
01:06for the first time
01:08France, Thailand, and Indonesia.
01:10The Commandant Exercises
01:12were held
01:14in response to the disaster response
01:16and maintenance of regional security
01:18in the Indo-Pacific region.
01:20The exercises in Palawan,
01:22Central Luzon,
01:24Bagueng, Ilocos Norte,
01:26and Batanes in northern Luzon
01:28where there will be
01:30live fire drills.
01:32Recently,
01:34the People's Liberation Army of China
01:36conducted military drills
01:38around Taiwan.
01:40In the midst of this,
01:42the Commandant Exercises
01:44have nothing to do with geopolitical situations
01:46and not to show strength.
01:48This exercise
01:50basically focuses
01:52on our
01:54main objective
01:56which is to foster
01:58good relations,
02:00to enhance
02:02interoperability,
02:04and of course
02:06to strengthen our
02:08ties with our
02:10partner nations.
02:12And so this exercise,
02:14regardless of what's going on geopolitically,
02:16is going to happen and it's
02:18to benefit really the Philippine
02:20Marine Corps, our partners and allies
02:22in the region to come together
02:24to get better, to
02:26respond to anything such as
02:28humanitarian crisis.
02:30Even so, one of the scenarios
02:32is the evacuation
02:34like the Filipinos in Taiwan
02:36if necessary.
02:38Any
02:40crisis occurring in
02:42Taiwan would involve
02:44our concern to our
02:46OFWs
02:48in Taiwan.
02:50And
02:52I think it's more of a
02:54preparing our
02:56forces whenever
02:58there will be repatriation
03:00of our OFWs.
03:02We are not
03:04exercising
03:06to join
03:08the fight if there will be any fight
03:10in that part of the region.
03:12In the presence of more countries,
03:14it will show the
03:16interoperability of the Commandant Exercises
03:18and other
03:20exercises that will continue
03:22to be improved.
03:24Aside from the Philippine Marines,
03:26the Philippine Coast Guard
03:28and PNP will also deploy
03:30Patrick De Jesus
03:32for Pambansang TV
03:34in Bagong, Philippines.
