00:00Are you guys ready to go?
00:23Are you guys ready to go on the last one?
00:50There we go.
01:16The rope just broke.
01:18Luke, Tom and Nate here with the Outdoor Boys YouTube channel and today we are going
01:22to be camping and exploring this deserted island.
01:30Welcome to another episode of the Outdoor Boys YouTube channel and today we are doing
01:34another camping video but this time we are going to be camping on our very own deserted
01:40island.
01:41How about that?
01:43And not only that, we are going to try to catch ourselves some dinner and cook it up
01:47and eat it as well and if we are lucky we might do a little exploring here and see what
01:54we can find on this cool island.
01:56Alright guys, you ready to set up camp?
01:58Yeah!
01:59It looks like you already found some food.
02:01Yeah!
02:02Look at that!
02:03Look at that!
02:04Oh what is that?
02:05Oh that's a mussel and that's a big one too.
02:08Yeah, you can eat these.
02:10I know.
02:11Oh there's one over there and there.
02:13Oh yeah, they're delicious.
02:14We can boil them up.
02:16We steam them up.
02:18See this line of grass?
02:20That's where the water came up to.
02:23So we have got to get above that.
02:36Well you got to be really careful with the tides.
02:38It's about an hour before high tide and so the tide was coming with us.
02:43So we were helped by the tide and we burned up about a quarter a tank of gas.
02:50Now going back will take us more gas if we are going against the tide.
02:55So I got to be careful with that.
02:57Also I got to be careful because I have beached my boat, right?
03:01And the tide is going to go out and leave it high and dry.
03:04So I got to watch that as well.
03:05I just want to set up the camp real quick.
03:07Then we are going to go out and drop some crab pots and try to catch some crabs for
03:11our food.
03:12And I got some fishing rods here.
03:14We are going to try to set that up as well.
03:16We've got some deep-ish water over here.
03:19There's a nice little channel that goes right within casting distance of the shore here.
03:23So this should be a good fishing spot as well as a good camping spot.
03:28Let's see what we can do.
03:30Your hand stuck?
03:31Yeah!
03:35Well, it's kind of windy and I really need to stake this tent down.
03:49But these little metal stakes that come with it are garbage.
03:51So I'm going to really quick go make some stakes.
04:05Well, I got the tent up and the boys are taking a sand bath.
04:11I think I need to go catch some crabs.
04:13So let's pull out the pots.
04:17So these are my crab pots.
04:18I'm allowed to use two at a time.
04:21And they've got this little bait pouch here on the top.
04:24And you just put any sort of meat, fish in there.
04:28I've got some dead shad.
04:33All right.
04:34So I've got the pots baited up.
04:35I need to go drop them out.
04:36I'm going to go out about 100, 200 yards out there with the skiff and just chuck the pots
04:41in about 4 or 5 feet of water.
04:42We'll let it soak until about dinner time and then we'll see what we've got in our pots.
04:55Chuck it.
04:56Throw the buoy over.
04:57Yeah, there you go.
04:58I got to tell you, this boat handles so much better without all that firewood and camping
05:05gear.
05:06Woo.
05:07All right, Nate, you want to throw one?
05:11Yes.
05:12Okay.
05:13Throw it and make sure that this side goes down.
05:16Okay?
05:17Okay.
05:18You don't want it to flip upside down.
05:19Okay.
05:20Go for it.
05:21Chuck it.
05:22All right.
05:23There we go.
05:24You ready to go fast?
05:25Yeah!
05:26Go as fast as you can.
05:43All right.
05:44I want to do a little bit of fishing here.
05:46I brought three surf rods and a variety of rigs.
05:49I'm not sure what we'll catch.
05:52It's still really early in the year.
05:54It's kind of cold, frankly, even though it's really sunny out here.
05:57It's like 50 degrees in the daytime, 40 or 30 in the night.
06:02We probably have skates out here, maybe blow toads or puffer fish, spot, speckled trout
06:10maybe, you know, things like that.
06:13We just really don't know.
06:15It's early in the year and it's still kind of cold, frankly.
06:18It's not ideal, but let's see if we can't catch something.
06:22So I got a little high-low rig with these little foam beads and some long shank J-hooks,
06:29number four whale tongue lead, just kind of the basic setup you get when you're chucking
06:35a rig out into the bay and you don't quite know what you're going to get.
06:38Got some of these fish bites here and they work good as bait stops, keeping your bait
06:45from flying off the hook.
06:48That shrimp will want to come off the hook when you cast, and that little bit of a fish
06:53bite will keep it from backing off the hook.
07:07Check it out, I broke the tip off my rod.
07:10My very first cast, the tip of my rod broke off and I don't know why.
07:15Love this rod.
07:16Well, it's about four o'clock, it's high tide, and I'm going to let those rods sit out right
07:21there as the tide's changing, maybe look at getting the boys a little snack or something,
07:26and just going to relax a little bit.
07:28That's an X.
07:29An X?
07:30And there's an arrow pointing there.
07:32Is that like an X marks the spot?
07:35Yeah.
07:36Nathan, have you guided yourself wet?
07:38Yep.
07:39Are you going to go for a swim?
07:40Yep.
07:41Alright.
07:42Tommy, are you going for a swim?
07:43Yeah.
07:44Alright.
07:45Well, it's 55 degrees and the boys say they want to go for a swim, so we'll see how they
07:50like that.
07:51Yeah.
07:52Run in there.
07:53Oh.
07:54Are you going to get in?
07:55Nathan.
07:56You know, if you put your life jacket on, it'll warm you up a little bit.
08:05You warming up, Nathan?
08:06Yep.
08:07I'm making a sand angel.
08:08You're making a sand angel?
08:09Oh, you're getting so gross.
08:13Nathan told me he needs to use the bathroom.
08:15I just told him to go behind those trees over there.
08:19The boys are having such a good time.
08:21I don't think there's anything I could say or do to get them back into that boat.
08:25We're going to take it nice and easy tonight.
08:26We're going to cook up some food, try to catch some dinner, and tomorrow we're going to be
08:32doing some exploring.
08:35The very end of the island, way over there, you can see a small grove of trees.
08:40Apparently they're the ruins of an old building that's abandoned down there.
08:45This truly is a deserted island.
08:48And we're going to go try to see if we can find the ruins and explore them a little bit
08:52tomorrow.
08:53We'll see if we've got enough gas to make it down there and whatnot.
08:57But I'm excited.
08:58Well, we've been fishing for about an hour, not a bite.
09:01And I'm only in about four or five feet of water.
09:03I cast out as far as I could, and I didn't quite make it out into that channel out there.
09:09So I think I'm going to reel in my gear and use the skiff to drop my bait out there in
09:14the channel and see if that doesn't help.
09:40Woo!
09:41I am almost completely out of line there.
09:45All right, I've got both those rods in the deep water, and we'll let that sit and see
09:49if we do any good.
09:50Hey, Nate, you cold, buddy?
09:52Yeah.
09:53Okay, let's get you dried up, okay?
09:54The sun's going to be setting soon.
09:56It's going to get real cold.
09:58Is it warmer now?
10:01I think the silver rod just got a bite.
10:03It just went, ooooh, yeah.
10:08Oh, we might catch something here.
10:10All right, Tommy, you want to reel in the rods?
10:13I'll carry it.
10:16No problem, buddy.
10:19It's one field snake.
10:25Oh, look at this!
10:26Look at this, we got a shark!
10:28What?
10:29Is that?
10:30What?
10:31Daddy, that was my rod.
10:32I caught a shark.
10:33Here, here, hold it.
10:34I caught a snake!
10:36I caught a shark!
10:38Look at that.
10:41Our first fish, Nate.
10:42Our first fish.
10:44That is it.
10:45That's the biggest shark in my life.
10:47Yeah, is that your first shark?
10:49Yes, I've never caught one.
10:52They're like dragging behind like this.
10:54Okay.
10:55I remember from the shark feed.
10:57Okay, now turn around.
10:58Turn around.
11:00Okay, and just let him go as soon as he's ready to swim off.
11:04See?
11:05Oh, he's swimming back.
11:07He's going to come over and bite my foot.
11:10There, he's going right under the boat.
11:13He's not gone.
11:15It's like he wants to...
11:17He's going to hide out under the boat.
11:19Oh, he's following me.
11:21I was walking back and he was right behind my foot.
11:24He's mad at you.
11:25He's going to nibble me.
11:28Well, before it gets dark, I'm going to set up our sleeping bags here.
11:32I bought this tent two years ago in our sturgeon fishing trip in British Columbia.
11:36And it's just been a great little tent.
11:38It was like $35 Canadian dollars.
11:47These right here are negative 20 bags from Bass Pro Shop.
11:51And these right here are the little kid-sized summer bags.
11:55These are like 20-degree, 30-degree bags.
11:58And I've got one for Nate and one for Tommy.
12:01I'm going to stuff those inside the negative 20 bag.
12:04Nathan probably doesn't need it.
12:06That kid can stay warm in the middle of a snowstorm.
12:09Tommy gets cold so easily.
12:12And he's a little hesitant about going camping with me unless I can guarantee his warmth.
12:17And so we're bringing lots and lots of bags.
12:23Check out my camping duffel bag.
12:25It says clean on that side, dirty on that side.
12:29Take off your dirty clothes.
12:31You shove it in the dirty side.
12:33Keeps all your clothes organized.
12:35Well, the sun's going to set in about an hour and a half.
12:37So let's reel in the rods and go check the crab pot.
12:40See what's going on there.
12:48Okay, can you reach over and get it?
12:50Yes, I can. Yes, I can.
12:52Okay, get it. This is all you.
12:54You got it?
12:56Now pull it up.
13:00Oh, look at that.
13:02Pull it up, Tom. Pull it.
13:04Grab the net. Grab it.
13:06Look at that.
13:08We've got crabs.
13:16Oh, I'm wrapped up. I'm wrapped up.
13:18I'm going to throw that overboard.
13:20All right, sit down, Tom.
13:22Okay.
13:26Yep, barely.
13:28Let's see, and this one's out to male.
13:31Okay, if I go, let's see.
13:34There we go.
13:36That big boy, he's the biggest one.
13:38All right, three tiny keepers.
13:40All right, you want to go get some more?
13:42Yeah.
13:43All right, let's do it.
13:46Look for our buoy.
13:48Where is it, Nathan?
13:51Do you know where it was?
13:53I don't know where it was.
13:55Well, we pulled both pots,
13:57and we got five keeper crabs,
13:59and we're going to have crab dinner.
14:01Are you guys excited?
14:03I know how to pick them up.
14:05All right, see if you can do it.
14:07Pinching his bottom.
14:09There you go, buddy.
14:11They give him something to hold on to,
14:13and they kind of calm down.
14:15Why don't you go ahead and put that in there?
14:17Nathan, do you want to try picking one up?
14:20There you go.
14:22Good job.
14:28There we go.
14:30All right, let's take it over.
14:32Let's get a fire started, shall we?
14:34Yeah.
14:35All right, we're going to go ahead and build a fire,
14:37but we want to build it below the high tide mark
14:39so that the next high tide will wash it all away,
14:41and it won't kill all this grass,
14:43which is important to maintaining the dunes.
14:45Daddy, why are you never holding the auto button?
14:51Got my blast match here.
14:59Hey, boys, will you grab me some wood?
15:09Luckily, I have a bunch of leftover lumber
15:11from the fishing cabin project
15:13and the hand cart project,
15:15so we're having a scrap wood fire today.
15:44Hey, Daddy, no.
15:46You have to...
15:52It's really for eating.
15:54It's what yours is.
16:14There's water.
16:17All right.
16:19We got old bay.
16:39The old bay still doesn't used to be a fire.
16:42They would make a fire and walk still.
16:45Sit on the cooler.
16:48Watch this.
16:55Well, the tide turned.
16:57I was meaning to take the boat out deeper,
16:59but I got distracted.
17:02Better start pushing.
17:04Can I go, too?
17:13There you go.
17:15The sun is setting.
17:17The crabs are steaming.
17:19The boys are playing.
17:21This is good.
17:23Hey, you guys cold?
17:25You want some hot chocolate?
17:27Okay.
17:29I'm going to make you some hot chocolate, okay?
17:42Just before bedtime,
17:44I like to put these adhesive body warmers on the kids.
17:46I can't tell you enough
17:48how great these are as a parent.
17:50You just throw them in your bag.
17:52Your kids get cold.
17:54Slap a bunch of these on them.
17:58I'll do it on the inside.
18:00I'm feeling much glad that I came along.
18:03I'm glad you came along, too.
18:05Me, too.
18:07It's just so adventurous.
18:10Here.
18:17Oh, my.
18:19That is looking good right there.
18:21Oh, yeah.
18:23That is all good.
18:25Okay, guys.
18:27Why don't you tell me what you want,
18:29and I'll load up your food, okay?
18:31Potato?
18:33Shrimp?
18:35Crab?
18:37You want to take that and start eating on it?
18:39You want to eat that?
18:41I want to eat.
18:43Yummy.
18:45That's the poo.
18:47That's a lot of poo.
18:49A poo-free mussel.
18:51Here, take that.
18:53Oh, there's a big piece of crab right there.
18:55Look at that.
18:59Oh, I love crab.
19:01Like that?
19:03Delicious.
19:05Orange.
19:11It's really hot.
19:17Oh, guys.
19:19Look at those stars.
19:21Look at the clear sky.
19:23You guys having fun?
19:25Good.
19:29You ready for bed?
19:31It's late.
19:33It's past your bedtime.
19:35We're in the park.
19:37Take your feet in the air like you just don't care.
19:39Ow, ow, ow.
19:41Naughty feet.
19:45Now, go inside.
19:47We need to burn this all up.
19:49Alright.
20:07I went and put away the mess kits and everything
20:09and they are sound asleep.
20:11Those boys just zonked out.
20:13Well, it's late and I've got to get to bed
20:15but it has been years since I've seen so many stars.
20:17It's crystal clear.
20:19There's no moon and no man-made light.
20:21It's just amazing.
20:23But it's late and I've got to get to bed
20:25and I am anxious
20:27to see if we can explore the rest of this island
20:29including those ruins tomorrow.
20:31So, I'll see you guys in the morning.
20:33Good morning.
20:35Ho, ho, ho.
20:37It's pretty.
20:45What a beautiful sight.
20:47And good, the boat's still here.
20:53It's a beautiful day.
20:55It's a beautiful day.
20:57It's a beautiful day.
20:59It's a beautiful day.
21:01It's a beautiful day.
21:25Good morning, guys.
21:27Do you have a good sleep, Tom?
21:29Do you feel warm?
21:33I'll make you some hot chocolate and bacon and oatmeal.
21:35How about that?
21:41That black beard, the pirate
21:43used to use this island
21:45as a hiding place.
21:47You know that?
21:49That's a true story.
21:53I think the wind
21:55picked up a little bit.
21:57Here, here, Phil.
22:05Hot chocolate first?
22:13Alrighty.
22:15I am going to eat some lemon cake.
22:17Lemon cake bacon sandwich, people.
22:19Mmm.
22:25Mmm.
22:27That's really good.
22:29Is that hot chocolate good?
22:31Yes.
22:35Well, I really want to take the boys
22:37and go explore the abandoned mansion
22:39at the other part of the island.
22:41But a couple factors have popped up.
22:43First off, I don't have as much
22:45gas in the tank as I thought I did.
22:47I'm a little worried about getting
22:49there and back with the gas we have.
22:51Additionally, the wind's kicking up.
22:53The forecast has changed a little bit.
22:55We've got about 6 to 11 mile-power
22:57winds right now, and it's
22:59supposed to kick up to 20 in the afternoon.
23:01I don't mind
23:03the wind normally, but
23:05with this boat fully loaded down,
23:07that makes me a little concerned.
23:09So, what I'm thinking we
23:11should do is hurry and pack
23:13up the boat and take all the gear
23:15back to the car, get some more gas,
23:17and then go explore.
23:29Well, what do you think? Was this a cool spot?
23:31Yeah!
23:33This is a pretty neat camping trip.
23:35Well, let's go get the crab pot, shall we?
23:37Yeah!
23:39Whoa!
23:41It kicked the fire!
23:43There's the water.
23:45Flaming sucker!
23:53Well, we went to go get our pot, and it's gone.
23:55I also noticed that some of the other
23:57pots in the neighborhood are gone, too,
23:59so I think somebody nabbed our pot.
24:01I can see the other boy
24:03over there, so we're going to go get the other one.
24:13Oh!
24:23Oh, look at this!
24:25Got a few!
24:29Look at that guy!
24:31Alright, we're going to let him go.
24:33Hey, look at this!
24:35Got a big old whelk shell in here.
24:37You can eat them, but they're not very good.
24:43Oh!
24:47Oh, we've had to slow down!
24:49The waves are getting too big!
24:59These waves are a bit too much
25:01for my taste!
25:07There we go!
25:13We've only got about 6 to 11
25:15mile-power winds right now, and
25:17the waves were a little bit sketchy
25:19right at the end there.
25:21It really made me nervous, so
25:23I don't think we should be going out
25:25when we're expecting to get up to
25:2720 mile-power winds this afternoon.
25:29That just wouldn't be smart.
25:31But I really wish we got a chance
25:33to explore that mansion. If you guys would like
25:35to see us come back and explore
25:37that mansion, make sure to click that like
